The thicker cut off wheels can be used to widen a joint slightly after the initial root pass with a stick welder. Then followed up with a fill and cap pass welds afterwards.
Hi I have a question for you I bought a Grinder and a 1/16 in wheel but having a hard time to pop it on without hitting the guard I turn over the back plate to it's highest point but I'm having a problem with the plate staying in a tight position it comes loose while I turn it on I did notice that the plate is flat and my other 1/4in plate has a high wise so there's a gap between the plate & guard do you have any suggestions? on why.
you can get a shinky smooth finish with a regular grinding wheel, or better with a combo disk... learn how to use a grinder properly. more importantly stop teaching inccorect way to use one, put the damn guard on. i didnt beilieve in them untill i had a 1/4 inch disk blow up, fingers would be fucked if i didnt have gloves on.
@moncantha... DITTO on using the guard for the cutting discs!!!! I also wear sunglasses that have the safety glass type impact lenses AND... A FULL CLEAR FACE SHIELD! You cant replace an eyeball!!!! The glasses can be bought at Home Depot for $15-20 and the full clear plastic face sheild is only around $15 dollars. Its cheap insurance! Flap discs kick ass over any grinding wheel! Flap discs shave down metal 3 times faster than a grinding wheel attachment! I never bither to buy the grinding
the best grinders are metabo for sure, milwaukee is #2 I say hilti is #3 because if it does burn out a brush or something, you cant change it. Oh and just so you know, dewalt normaly costs more then mikwaukee, and is lower quality.
That wire wheel you got is a bead brush, its only supposed to be used 90* to a surface. A cupstone wire wheel is the proper tool for cleaning off flat surfaces.
im all for ''do it yourself'' vids on here, but like said about the rpm saftey issue stated and the not mentioned eye protection, this is a terrible vid..sorry but having welded most of my adult life and have the scar tissue in my eye lids from metal frags off of grinders i whole heartedly insist on eyewear in my older age..espescialy with the type of wheel your using at about 3.50, when those wires let loose they are darts..
@develsdaughter I wear safety glasses. The shards will fly straight out or can bounce toward you but lose momentum. if you don't have any part of yourself lined up with the wheel it's ok.
Do not use discs that are rated lower than your grinder's speed because they could fly apart. Example- DO NOT use a disc that is rated for 6600 RPM in a grinder that spins at 11,000 RPM. If your grinder spins at 11,000 RPM you must buy discs that are rated higher than 11,000, such as 13,000+.
@freddytk421 I know. I also have a grinder, 125cm 900w. It's stupid to advise people to use disc that isnt made for speed as grinder is. Example 10000rpm disc installed to 11000rpm grinder.
@Bikeman1087 So people should buy lots of grinders or a super expensive variable speed? It is ok to use all those discs. you should use a guard I do concede that. I never do though I keep my head to the side and I know that makes it ok but I just can't prove it yet.
@freddytk421 No. My advise for newbies is to choose discs that are rated same or higher speed than rated speed of grinder. My grinder is rated to 11000rpm, discs I use are rated to 12200rpm. I have the guard on and I wont remove it.
Freddy, remind everybody not to wear cotton shirts or sweatshirts when cutting with the cutting wheel. And you got to watch not to get the sparks hitting your jeans as they will weaken the material in the jeans and will destroy the jeans. That meal flying off the disks will ruin any material except leather so wear leather when cutting or make sure that the sparks don't hit you. Make sure there is no open gasoline containers near where you grind or you get one big boom!!!!!!
Hey Freddie, good video. Tell em to make sure they keep the guard on the grinder. I had a wheel break on me and the wheel stuck in the wall. If it wasn't for the guard,it would have stuck in me.
I also learned my lesson grinding with my hand grinder. The sparks were hitting my jeans and it burned a hole in them. Not only that but everyone should remember to wear eye protection. Those sparks are hot metal flying around. And sometimes the wire on the wire wheels fly off sticking into you,
I have that same grinder!!! And all the wheels. I love the sanding disk for lowering the welds to make them invisable. Great build on this vid Freddy!!! I didn't see where you attached that vid you said....
Excellent video (I have the same angle grinder, but haven't ever bought the flap wheels yet - very neat to see them demonstrated and used to make that nice smooth edge ) - but I am not sure what you trying to keep them short has to do with people subscribing? Anyway, I do subscribe AND I don't mind longer videos.
I live by the flap disks over any grinding wheel!!! You know i had a female foreman at a shop i worked at recently and we nick-named her "40 grit" she was one rough bitch.
Thank you, you are one of my first subs and one of the reason I even want to make videos. try 80 that seems to do the trick and 120 is kinda overboard for most things and takes longer.
Damn I can't watch!
USE THE FUCKING SAFETY COVER!!! At all times!

dunno if someone already mentioned this but the more it said the better.
USE THE GUARD if you don't and the disc explodes it can easily kill you. A exploded disc went though a mans eye and missed his brain by centimeters.
If you use an angle grinder and don't use specs and the guard your waiting for a bit of disc to lodge its self deep in your body.

i used this to cut wood, using a circular saw blade, and it worked very well, until the gear broke.

well they don't require mush force for removing paint, rust ...
also don't fly apart easy. but i think that's some what related by brand.
for cleaning surfaces before welding they are superb
