The problem is that your movements are too constant. That means its easy to see wich hole is gonna be open for the next two seconds. You need to lure him to a hole, and try to close it when you think he gonna shoot the ball
gues what... your hasty movements do not work for defending snakes ;) try moving fast BUT always under control. PSYCHO DEFENSE is the only true way. first, you need to keep strong in mind all over the game (gaining this ability is the hardest match you have to win).
when defending, move constantly mid-fast, while trying to open holes to lure the enemy. you have to CLOSE them when you think that the shot will come. faster moves during game 4pissed off attackers ;)
from what i can see ... its just a one dot spray snake shot ... u can try moving just a lil bit from the middle ... dont have to move ur men up to the last dot ... its just my opinion though
the reason could be the way u move goalkeeper(GK) and defender(DF). I see that u moved DF faster than the GK and u didn't move them simultaneously. your dad only shot to the side, so once your GK already in 1 side, use DF to block the other side. After some shot, may be your dad will shot in the middle, than use both DF and GK block in the middle, and remember to move both GK and DF simultaneously. if u move GK to the left, also move the DF to that side
You see everytime your dad scores, it is in the sides. You have to open middle, and then close the gap. Its easier to close middle gap than in the sides, since he can go both ways, and only one middle gap..
@asbjoernen thx wanted to write exactly the same. playing for bout 6-7 years now. ur dad has a good shot anyways, wish mine would had some like that^^
I noticed the on at least 2 of the shots he cut it back to the far corner through the inside hole. I know this is not always easy but try to cover the inside hole whenever possible.
This is my method. I keep my goalie in front of the middle 3 man (with the ball) with little motion. I then alternate blocking pull with my farther 2 man, or push with my closer 2 man. I could also note most of the shot's directions based on the player to give some predictability, then blocking the opposite would be more of a lure. It won't block 100% of the time because the Rollover is a very strong shot. But if you randomize well, you will keep the attacker guessing.
Your defense doesn't actually cover any of the proper holes, due to your shaky motions; his shot has a spray motion both directions (though his pull side still goes reasonably long), so you really don't have to move very much (note Bobby Diaz's style of defense).
As a goalie, your motions should dictate where he shoots, so show a hole, bait him there, then take it away.
id say you move a bit to much. Let your defender right in front of the 3 bar guy and move it as your dad moves his attacker. Then, try to have your goalie close to your defensman and to never open a hole right in front of the attacker. Another thing, your dad seems to go in corners and traight. Try to always hav a good look and speed on the corner shots and dont worry on the diagonals shot, cuz i didnt see him do one. Well, hope it helped you:)
put the defense right in front of him right in front of the ball then have the goalie go to the wide side if he keeps it even, go to the pull side (side closest to him) i use this to stop the attack of the Nunchux ( a team I play against)
just follow the tips already mentioned and train your eye simultaniously by watching at his shooting hand. most amateur players have much movement in their arm and shoulder so that you can predict their shots if u have a good reaction. knowing the favourite shooting position and length (short, med, long) of your enemy is also very helpful...
hold on the players firmly so he doesnt make them give in. second make your goaler and defenders parallel to each other and dont shake them so much xD good luck
your dad has a tell... easy to see, alot of snakeshot shooters do this, he sits on the far side of the ball... i.e. he has the ball on the pullside toe when he's pulling the snake. your d is the main problem... try staying with the ball and use your 2bar and goallie together.....
your moving the goalie predictably.. the shot he missed here was when you did it off beat.. the rollover is more of a guess shot. Opponent is going to most likely pick a hole and go for it when he thinks its right unless you create a pattern and leave something open.
first of all dont panic, dont shake to much, your making too many holes to shoot through,
and to stop the ball, keep defense right infront of the ball, and the goallie next to it, make sure the goallie is on the side you predict he is gonna shoot,
finally train yourself to be fast, if he figured out, he is trying to change his direction (left or right) all you gotta do is know exactly where he shoot, its mostly right next to the defense, so then you know where to put the goallie
Look at how frequently, and how rhythmically, you are crossing your defense. It's too predictable. Try a mixture of crossing and waiting, crossing fast, faking crosses, and stopping instantaneously every now and then. You can also try to 'bait' him into a particular hole, and read when he is about to shoot.
Hehe such noobs in here, ok so to stop a snake there is not 50 000 ways, someone stated " move as fast as him" the thing is it's impossible, you can't move as fast as him, the only thing you can actually do is try to know where he is about to shoot and know where he shoots, notice that a snake takes a revolution, therefore he is always moving the ball by the same lenght (about 1.5 inch). then try to know if he push, pull/fake (it's like playing paper-rock-scisor), human is not random! ;) he he
that is true, that is why to stop a realy good shot (such as the snake, the spoon or pined shot...) you have to KNOW where the opponent is about to shoot, with strangers it's not easy but here it's his father, in theory he should know his father well and could guess what his dad's thinking! ^^
You're covering the middle of the goal too much, also crossing over your men too much. Your two bar man almost never covers the longs, meaning he only has to watch your goalie.
By the way, I am a 20+ year foos vet of too numerious to mention tournements (national and local) and I am considered a pro goalie locally. I have seen the best and defended the best. You know, if you don't let Dad get the ball in the first place, you won't have to worry about defending his shot. Work on your 5 man skills, both in defense, passing, AND shooting. A strong 5 man will win a game because your percentage is higher that you will score. FOOS ON, MY BROTHER!
#1: Keep moving and dont get into a rhythm. Be intermittant and unpredictable. A moving target is harder to hit. #2: Bait the offense. The offense is looking for a pattern to your defense. GIVE THEM A PATTERN ON PURPOSE that way YOU KNOW WHERE THE BALL IS GOING. #3: Balk your defensive move with a shoulder throw. Hard to explain without showing, but if you can fake a move (that the offence is waiting for) but you don't really go there, you can get the offense to shoot to that spot. Works great.
Keep a first line guy on the ball, but dont move it frantically, just mirror his movements. As for your goalie, just do your best to predict where he'll slide to, and watch for patterns.
keep one of ur defenders infront of the "offender" with the ball and then keep ur goalie on one side, if he goes the other way, just pull/push that way really fast
Your dad usually rocks 2 times then shoots on the 3rd rock - look at the direction of the 3rd rock, and his upper shoulder/elbow just before he shoots. Odds are you'll notice a tell - it might be different for pulls/pushes. Also, you need to randomize your movement - bait him with obvious holes, then close them. Alternate the holes, you'll notice that he'll need to rock longer - this is because he can't tell where the open is, and is forced to guess. He'll get frustrated and miss.
With all the dumbass answers on here, yours is the only one with any knowledge. Thanks for posting about timing tendencies, my paritcular issue with my sho. It's 1, 2, 3 boom. IF the D is messing with me, scoring percentage dips hard.
dont switch the men over as much cos this is when you have the least area covered. generally keep a balls width between the men. he sprays the push so try using the far man on the 2 more than the near man. Obv the straight is easiest to hit, but most people tend to hit it less often so you could try splitting the men one to each side when he shoots. look for tells and you'll probably spot some. mix up the tempo so its not always fast or slow but keep the movement unpredictable
when the ball is pinned and he is setting up his shot, try not to keep your defendr and goalie right infront of the ball. When the ball is pinned, there is no quick way for him to shoot right infront, ergo he has to pull/push it left or right. As you can see he usually scores in one of the corners of the goal. Keep yur men there, (of course ont stationary), pulsating the rods so as to have a better reflex in case he shoots through the center
If you move your puppets you get automatically a rhythm. If you have good reactions, you can offer a gap and close it when he shoot. Put the foods of your row of three forward in front of his puppet. So he has a longer way and must play around it, that means more time for you to react.
his lateral sucks, its spraying long. i would try using the 2 bar and post him up to the 2 hole. make him get a deep lateral to the 1 hole if he wants that side. as for the pull side, it looks pretty raceable.
very simple, train your 5, so you can block ur dads passes to his 3, just keep blocking them on ur 5, and pass the ball with ur 5 to ur 3, and learn the snake shot (kinda easy, just some pols control)and take ur dad back !
as everyone has told you, there is no secret to defending this. just keep your movement unpredictable and hope, or show him a gap on purpose and close it quickly and he might fall for it. obviously the doubling is bad but you're trying to be unpredictable i guess but it is not good practise to do so not just because of the doubling up, but it also takes longer for the man to move across the whole goal instead of defending half of it
looking at ur defense one more time. seems like it's rhythmic. meaning that you clearly have a timing pattern on your defense. closing one hole for a sec and come off. plus ur switching ur men too much, try not to do it so much as when you switch, it turns ur guys into an "I" formation for a split second. good luck kid!
there are many ways to block the snake. but seems like you are doing a good job...but your dad has adjusted his shot on your defense. then you would try to adjust back by giving him an "off-timing" defense. basically show one hole and take it away from 1/2 sec to 1-1/2 sec. So a methodical slower defense would pick his brain...as it does to mine! hahaha
i think he goes for the post that your goalie leaves. (ex: your goalie is covering right, so your father aims for the right goal post. when you switch your goalie up to left, your father shoots your right goal post.)
you switch positions of defender and goalie to often. everytime they´re on one exact line to the goal you waste one row. in this time you could as well just hold one row up. always try to cover as much space as possible.
try to cover the left side for safe, as the shot is harder to do to the right. cover the left side safe and drive to the right on suspicion. this way you have the best chances to hold the jet.
that would be the most obvious of course...but the snake shot is a corner shot....so you would try to race a snake to the corners? i think not. you would block 1 of 10 of them.
ur dad's snake shot from the video is push spray and 1 dot pull shot : its juz a 1 dot snake shot ... its not that hard to block ... keep ur foosball man from going to far from middle / 1 dot left / 1 dot right ... the best way is to open 1 dot for ur dad to take his shot ... but u need to have the speed to block the shot when he falls for the dot ... good luck lolz
He has a quick shot! I would recommend not allowing him to get the ball! I know it's gonna happen; don't double up your defense as often and try moving your back rows with more randomness. When you watch your video, notice the pattern in which you move your defensive men.
Then learn the Chode shot and stuff him with! It's much harder to learn then the snake but once mastered is close to impossible to block. I'll send you a video of my shot in your Video Response. Good Luck!
Maybe you could keep your defenders stationary within a distance that will cover most of the center goal. he is most likely going to start the snake shot in the center and slightly push or pull it and then shoot. If you continue to move your men so rapidly, you will leave many holes.
one way you could stop him is by starting with your goalie and one of your men from the 2 row in front of the ball. then as he shoots, he is most likely to slightly move the ball to the left or right... SLIGHTLY. so
move your men in opposite directions slightly to block his shot. this way it doesn't matter which side he goes on, you will block it. keep practicing this against him until you find the distance you need to move your men to block his shot.
well the problem is then men cannot cover all the holes at once. He can hit either post and i also have to cover the middle so there is no way to cover all three without just guessing.
@kyledwest If u think that way, then u r still not experienced enought to know everything can be covered, anytime, in any direction. Source: Decades of training
ive done this and every snaker have a favourite side..the one on the dead man hole will be his stronger side and u shuld keep that hole closed coz hes aiming for that..wut i do is..im 'fishing' for that hole..when he shoots..my man blocks..thats how i block..
This is true. I have only been playing foosball for 6 months or so. I never noticed that I had that much of a tick toc defence. thanks for helping me out, ill work on being faster and even more random. The shot that didnt go in hit the post, shot across the goal, hit the other post and bounced out. so i didn't actually block it. I cut out the ones that i actually blocked.
I have had GREAT success stopping these lame ass shots!
Tip your front man forward stay on the ball with that man ....once you stop it a few time they will get frustrated and you will understand snake shot shooter does not move the ball laterally very far in most cases.
Theres no right or wrong way to defend any snake. There is a basic rule of thumb to follow though that provides a solid defense, and that is that you dont tic tock with the clock. This means that you shouldnt make a consistant back and forth motion with either goal rod, prividing a "tic tock" pattern for the shooter. He simply "tocs" when you "tic" and so on. I noticed you doing that with your 3 man. The one shot that you blocked was the one unpredictable movement you made.
I am playing defense in this video. I feel like i do use that method but it just doesn't work all that often. I am pretty sure that he just picks one way to shoot it once he gets it on his toe. Any other methods besides this? Ill try to do it in an even more rapid form but i think i already have him guessing so i don't think that will help.
kyledwest, from what I see in this video, you're not close to being fast enough (I say this without trying to be disrespectful).
If you can find it, you need to watch Collignon vs Spredeman in the 06 Tornado Worlds, in Vegas, match. Collignon's defense and goalie are almost a blur in front of the net. In fact when Collignon did not do this Spredeman beat him. And Spredeman has one of the fastest snakes you're gonna see.
Keep in mind, the speed required takes time to develop.
If you've ever studied some type of martial art, you'd know what I'm taaking about. Hand speed takes time and lot's of practice to develop. The trick is to keep the hands and arms loose, not tight and rigid.
Then as I and djshane458 mentioned, you need to 'randomize' your movements. Don't 'back and forth' in tandem. you'll just give him openings that way. You tick, he tocs.
You can't 'race' a good snake shot. I found the best way to defend it is to 'open and close' the 'holes' in VERY rapid fashion always moving the rods in a random and non-tandem way. The quicker you can move the goalie and one defender acorss the net the better will be your defence. This will cause your dad to 'guess' as to where to shoot as opposed to giving him an open whole to aim for.

Keep yur men there, (of course ont stationary), pulsating the rods so as to have a better reflex in case he shoots through the center

dont move the poles

If you move your puppets you get automatically a rhythm. If you have good reactions, you can offer a gap and close it when he shoot. Put the foods of your row of three forward in front of his puppet. So he has a longer way and must play around it, that means more time for you to react.
Good luck. ;-)

his lateral sucks, its spraying long. i would try using the 2 bar and post him up to the 2 hole. make him get a deep lateral to the 1 hole if he wants that side. as for the pull side, it looks pretty raceable.

wow how is the snake shot hard its easy to do
hammyricecakes123 3 years ago
very simple, train your 5, so you can block ur dads passes to his 3, just keep blocking them on ur 5, and pass the ball with ur 5 to ur 3, and learn the snake shot (kinda easy, just some pols control)and take ur dad back !

i just learned this shot recently, lol
after like 3 years =.=, rely too much on my 3 2. Which is deadly as fuck, btw

as everyone has told you, there is no secret to defending this. just keep your movement unpredictable and hope, or show him a gap on purpose and close it quickly and he might fall for it. obviously the doubling is bad but you're trying to be unpredictable i guess but it is not good practise to do so not just because of the doubling up, but it also takes longer for the man to move across the whole goal instead of defending half of it

Sell your table and Buy a Play station Three and get you MADDEN ON !!!
Or
Keep your eye on the ball and the Goalie in front of it, Defenders pointed towards the ball will help kick it out of the Goalie box faster

looking at ur defense one more time. seems like it's rhythmic. meaning that you clearly have a timing pattern on your defense. closing one hole for a sec and come off. plus ur switching ur men too much, try not to do it so much as when you switch, it turns ur guys into an "I" formation for a split second. good luck kid!
spooncvc 3 years ago 3
there are many ways to block the snake. but seems like you are doing a good job...but your dad has adjusted his shot on your defense. then you would try to adjust back by giving him an "off-timing" defense. basically show one hole and take it away from 1/2 sec to 1-1/2 sec. So a methodical slower defense would pick his brain...as it does to mine! hahaha

i think he goes for the post that your goalie leaves. (ex: your goalie is covering right, so your father aims for the right goal post. when you switch your goalie up to left, your father shoots your right goal post.)
sethshep 3 years ago
addition:
you switch positions of defender and goalie to often. everytime they´re on one exact line to the goal you waste one row. in this time you could as well just hold one row up. always try to cover as much space as possible.
dogmachris 3 years ago
try to cover the left side for safe, as the shot is harder to do to the right. cover the left side safe and drive to the right on suspicion. this way you have the best chances to hold the jet.
dogmachris 3 years ago
keep one man in the middle because that is the most obvious shot that he will make.
Krusader2810 3 years ago
that would be the most obvious of course...but the snake shot is a corner shot....so you would try to race a snake to the corners? i think not. you would block 1 of 10 of them.
spooncvc 3 years ago
ur dad's snake shot from the video is push spray and 1 dot pull shot : its juz a 1 dot snake shot ... its not that hard to block ... keep ur foosball man from going to far from middle / 1 dot left / 1 dot right ... the best way is to open 1 dot for ur dad to take his shot ... but u need to have the speed to block the shot when he falls for the dot ... good luck lolz

Good Luck!

How do you stop your dad's snake shot? Own him on the 5 rod. ;) and not doubling up your guys when you switch positions might help also.
Soper79 3 years ago 3
Maybe you could keep your defenders stationary within a distance that will cover most of the center goal. he is most likely going to start the snake shot in the center and slightly push or pull it and then shoot. If you continue to move your men so rapidly, you will leave many holes.
one way you could stop him is by starting with your goalie and one of your men from the 2 row in front of the ball. then as he shoots, he is most likely to slightly move the ball to the left or right... SLIGHTLY. so
hellslayer1219 3 years ago
move your men in opposite directions slightly to block his shot. this way it doesn't matter which side he goes on, you will block it. keep practicing this against him until you find the distance you need to move your men to block his shot.
hellslayer1219 3 years ago
well the problem is then men cannot cover all the holes at once. He can hit either post and i also have to cover the middle so there is no way to cover all three without just guessing.
kyledwest 3 years ago
@kyledwest If u think that way, then u r still not experienced enought to know everything can be covered, anytime, in any direction. Source: Decades of training
robertito8888 1 year ago
ive done this and every snaker have a favourite side..the one on the dead man hole will be his stronger side and u shuld keep that hole closed coz hes aiming for that..wut i do is..im 'fishing' for that hole..when he shoots..my man blocks..thats how i block..
teeyew12 4 years ago
This is true. I have only been playing foosball for 6 months or so. I never noticed that I had that much of a tick toc defence. thanks for helping me out, ill work on being faster and even more random. The shot that didnt go in hit the post, shot across the goal, hit the other post and bounced out. so i didn't actually block it. I cut out the ones that i actually blocked.

When you get your speed up and are able to defend him with better percentages post another vid and show us how it's going.

The one shot that you blocked was the one unpredictable movement you made.
djshane458 4 years ago
I am playing defense in this video. I feel like i do use that method but it just doesn't work all that often. I am pretty sure that he just picks one way to shoot it once he gets it on his toe. Any other methods besides this? Ill try to do it in an even more rapid form but i think i already have him guessing so i don't think that will help.
kyledwest 4 years ago
kyledwest, from what I see in this video, you're not close to being fast enough (I say this without trying to be disrespectful).
Keep in mind, the speed required takes time to develop.
jagiar 4 years ago
If you've ever studied some type of martial art, you'd know what I'm taaking about. Hand speed takes time and lot's of practice to develop. The trick is to keep the hands and arms loose, not tight and rigid.
Then as I and djshane458 mentioned, you need to 'randomize' your movements. Don't 'back and forth' in tandem. you'll just give him openings that way. You tick, he tocs.
jagiar 4 years ago
You can't 'race' a good snake shot. I found the best way to defend it is to 'open and close' the 'holes' in VERY rapid fashion always moving the rods in a random and non-tandem way. The quicker you can move the goalie and one defender acorss the net the better will be your defence. This will cause your dad to 'guess' as to where to shoot as opposed to giving him an open whole to aim for.
