Dang! I can understand the nostolgia. I had only enjoyed semi Socialism in 1970s and I am missing that already! I dunno society now in my country (India) looks fast and "hi tech" but prices rise like 200 percent at random (NEVER declines), huge parts of the country have POWER ON status (versus POWER OFF status).
U had lesser consumer goods but FAR SUPERIOR capital goods which ensured u livd a stress free life. I remember life back in semi Socialist days being SO stress free and less anal.

Pol Pot doesn't even count. A naziwhos people had to be liberated by Vietnam and who let US bombers use his airfieds to bomb the Vietnamese communists. Stain was brutal but you can't say that his 5 year plan was a failure. In fact it increased industrial production faster and more efficiently than any capitalist state. His agricultural policy was a faiure to a degree. Sadly the peasants often destroyed their own crops and there was a bad harvest which with bad politics led to 20 million.

russia, bulgaria, and germany dont surprise me, hungary and slovakia surprise me big time (but in slovakias case it shows that slovaks werent really against czechoslovakia). romania doesnt surprise me much since ive spoken to romanians who tell me that ceaucescu was a good man and i thought they all hated him, talk about shocking. i agree that in DDRs case it wasnt implemented right part of the time, but it was implemented better than others like poland, imo a united DDR would be better :D

Women were equal to men and even more respected. And in the Middle Ages in Bohemia during the Husite Wars , Bohemian king Ludwig fought Taborists who wanted " that there is no private property, and that everybody are equal" Socialism in in humans, but so is exploatation and greed.

I could not find this statistic. All I know is in nov. 2009 a survey found that 12 percent of Germans would like to see the wall quickly rebuilt. There was almost no difference in responses between former East and West Germans, suggesting equal levels of disenchantment with a reunified Germany on both sides of the former Iron Curtain.

there was no brain-washing involved, and i have seen parts of romania, it is sad. YOU should check with reality.
They should stop building shopping centers and start building new hospitals, infrastructure, housing, schoolscetc.
i dont want to argue, but it is a fact that life in romania is worse that it was in the 60ies adn 70ies. The 80ies were very bad, i know that.

i don't see why you should start some stupid rant here.
I visit my relatives several times a year, they live in the western part of romania. Most of them, let's say 9 out of 10 are worse of.
By the way, i'm not a communist, just trying to express my opinion. You can ask anybody, life quality has not recovered since 1989. There are political freedoms, but you cant feed your children or send them to school with that.
