Immigration is part of the problem, but the real reason no new houses get built in this country is excessive planning restrictions and the NIMBYs who use/support them. Some housing developer wanted to build a couple of houses in an unused plot of land near where I live, and the local idiots have organised full force against it, creating a website, sending out letters, holding meetings and more over the construction of just a few houses.
Nigel (God bless him) needs some education about market forces and Landlords. The reason tennants can receive housing benefit directly is because there is a frequency of behaviour that suggests quite clearly that tennant seen in receipt of benefits are somehow
unwelcome tennants and are stigmatised. This prevents tennants securing private accommodation and also can foreshorten the tenancy making them homeless. This is not good economics. Scrutiny of where money is going periodically advised.
@Retrogamer71 As a friend of landlords (who are regular, prudent people), they view people on benefits as unwelcome, because they have let their houses out in good faith to people on benefits, then seen their property degraded, trashed or damaged. And they are well out of pocket to get the property back to standard to take new tennants.
The free market should be encouraged to emply people so they don't need to be on benefits. Benefits are designed to be short term, not life long
