  • So, let's hear a Paganini caprice or perhaps a Scarlatti sonata on it.

Or is it what it seems to be--like playing a piano through treacle? Okay for slow or very repetitive music, but otherwise, not so much.

  • It costs 1,099,00 euros?!

    Woah~~~

    I'm poor.

  • why would you want an instrument you don't touch? that's like having an internet girlfriend.

  • I couldn't find this information on the website. Jo Hamilton says it has 8 light sensors each with three levels, giving one 24 keys. What type of note pattern is used?

  • pretty sweet .... just seen this on the gadget show for almost a grand

  • quit the word piano if this shit its defame the real art

  • I saw three months ago you commented that the AirPiano will be available soon in small production lines. Is that still true?

  • AMAZING!

  • This looks like something you would find on Star Trek.

  • WTF, you call that an air piano? I am the world's best air keyboardist. An air piano is made of air.

  • Stick it above a door, a perfect alarm

  • Amazing technique, but still sounds like shit. My '92 toy keyboard has a better sound. So, can you use your own MIDIpacks on this one?

  • @TorksonPds of course you can. The airpiano has no sound. Its a MIDI and OSC controller.

  • @omeryosha

Sorry, didn't read the description. (I now feel like a regular YouTube commenter - stupid.)

Also failed to notice how this was uploaded over 2½ years ago... so, is it already being sold somewhere?

  • @TorksonPds The airpiano will be sold very soon in very small production lines.

  • @omeryosha How much will it cost? Knowing pianos, it'll probably be around 300 dollars or something.

  • To add, US Dollars.

  • Want it. Now.

  • awesome controller ))

  • OMG...

  • nothing beats a steinway

  • Can i buy one

  • Thats the fucking future right there.

  • wow that was beautiful and i bet it took a lot of practice for that man to learn how to use it. i say he needs a big applause for that beautiful piano playing

  • Fake.

  • yeah!! theremin is weird =)

theremin is more like of a "freak", or annoying sound effect for weird situations,

when you hear it first time...but Air Piano is more comfortable for an average listener, I think

  • Ok this video is what I was wanting to see, and what I idealized the functionality to be. Pianos are obsolete and HUGE. There's now little reason to stick with wooden instruments, aside from a potential worldwide catastrophe that would render electronics useless.

  • I want one of these so bad!!!!

  • I just came.

  • pretty cool!

  • its like a theremin but it has different readin points, which the theremin has only 1

it also has a different sound to it

  • its just like a theremin

  • SHIT NIGGAS IS COOL THIS SHIT I WANNA

  • This things just a thurman

  • its just like playing a real piano!!! (please note my irony)..... I would like to hear him playing bach in that piece of shit

    cool stuff though

  • Appreciate the technology, of course it doesn't beat the real piano but the technology behind it is cool.

  • Fake!

  • this is like a theramin!

  • this is not like a theremin!

  • Hahah.. I love that response. This technology would make a great supplement to a live music show.

  • @omeryosha this is not a pipe

  • @omeryosha Explain how its not.

  • @omeryosha Just as practical...really

  • @omeryosha It kind of is. The way you make music without actually touching an instrument? Yeah, kind of reminds probably everyone of a theremin. ;-)

  • @TorksonPds It might remind people of a theremin, but the airpiano is actually a completely different instrument. Different technology, different interaction, different features. You will soon learn more about it.

  • I have heard of these type of instruments. Some people made one similar for a paraplegic man. He would hold a drum stick in his mouth and wave it over this black bar and it would play different notes depending on where he would wave his stick.

  • Very funny !! Looks like he just rehearsed the hand movements to the song and performed it... i'd like to see the ableton file move with his hand movements. Also the air piano looks like a 1by4 with some plastic on top and a fake cable attached... nice try wise guy.

  • c MON! is that for real??

  • you need to learn to be more thorough in your investigative technique :-P

  • that is badass

  • the stupid ones are the ones calling it stupid.. This is for real, using infrared emitters and sensors through a midi interface.. Not science fiction, but science fact. If you want to see weird.. you need to see the Moog Theremin.. THAT is hard to believe, but true.

  • so fucking stupid it's not real

  • freaking cool beans.

  • dope

  • whoops i mean theremin wrong spelling

  • oh it's like a horizontal theramin. google theramin everyone.

  • much more than that old simple device, it has polyphony plus 3 dimensional control it appears.

  • AWESOME

  • A-M-A-Z-IN-G-

  • omfg!!!

  • The hand motions seem to only *partially* correspond to *some* of the notes coming out of the thing. I don't know enough about it to call this 'fake' but it looks pretty unusual.

  • ahhahahaa... O.O' no comment

  • A mí tampoco me parece real...

  • the response time seems too slow to really play anything amazing on it.

i hope they'll make that much better before it's commercial release :o

  • need more cowbell!

  • fake fake fake...

  • I'm glad a budding scientists such as yourself can spare time to comment on home inventions.

  • This is too cool. I like how you can change the pitch by raising your hand. I'd love to see someone put this through a torture test and show what it can REALLY do! Nice invention!

  • Nice!

    Creative works!!

It's an ambient and a cool impression.

  • Bravo, brilliant work mate.

  • Brilliant

  • Very cool, reminds me of a theremin

  • its a keyboard, i dont think its programmed, it seems to have 8 notes and deppending on the distance from the keyboard to the hand it increases 12 semitones, or in other words an octave, so you can play a melody

  • place a mobile phone with a crappy midi sound on your desk and wave your hands above and you get the same. this isnt really a keyboard, because it is pre-programmed to play the propper notes. i would have been impressed if you could play everything without being programmed....

  • what are you on about?

  • you obviously have no idea what you can do with electronics nowadays.

  • "Above the AirPiano is a virtual matrix of keys and faders, each assigned with MIDI messages and ready to be triggered. The length of a triggered note is equivalent to the time a hand is placed on the corresponding virtual key. This is also confirmed by LED feedback"

Read it first, honestly, or you sound stupid.

  • Wow! Sure beats getting keys all dirty with oily hands.

  • very cool! :)
