Dave doesn't play this acoustic part, does he? never would've guessed it was in open E but what you're doing sounds like it fits perfectly..I saw what you said about playing the solo & I'm in the same boat w/you on that one !! Its still very cool that you figured out this intro
Hey man i just bought an acoustic guitar for college since I don't want to bring my electric or amp, so i was wondering if you could recommend a couple of good songs on the acoustic. I would like to learn some neil young and grateful dead songs but do you have any other suggestions? I am asking because you have a good taste for music. love the vids especially the who covers.
You would be surprised...He only knows how to do one thing on the guitar, but he does it well. That's Dave playing the fairly intricate fingerpicked guitar on "Could This Be Magic?" from Women and Children First. Listen closely to the recording of "Ice Cream Man" and check out the official transcription and you will see and hear it...also watch the videos. I use hybrid picking, and Dave may indeed have used his thumb and first finger, but he is definitely bouncing on the B string...
Most of the time he is hybrid picking...bass strings take the pick and the open high B string is what is being droned rather than the strum that you are doing, but the way you play it is close enough for most. Your guitar is also one hell of alot better than the old Vox acoustic that Dave likely played for the original recording and it sounds fucking fantastic!
@Shamonachild Yes, and I guess I'm just patient. Still, playing by ear has its limitations. I can only play what I hear, and sometimes I can't really hear what's going on!
really great privettricker! i have three suggestions:let me go,rock n roll by kiss ,chip away the stone or last child by aerosmith.off of hotter than hell, live:bootleg and rocks.

@4runnerJr Dave did this intro, and he did the rhythm part on Could This Be Magic? I think he also did the acoustic intro on Full Bug.

@garbeaj I honestly didn't think Dave had the skills to do hybrid picking.
