I do not believe the problem with this battle is weakness on Zommari's part. Rather, I believe it is because his opponent is one of the most powerful combatants in all of Soul Society. Byakuya is a master swordsman of exceptional skill and keen intellect. He is unaffected by emotion in combat and has considerable knowledge of Kido.

Further, his Senbonzakura has a rather interesting power: Creating those tiny blades that appear as Sakura Cherry Blossoms that will rip an enemy apart.
