The trumpet solo really makes this a true classic of the Swing era. We were all blessed that Glenn contributed so many great tunes to the American musical treasury.
i dont care for this movie at all mostly cuz most of it is not true and made up but i know for a fact that paul tanner (trombone) was the only member from glenns original band that actually played in this movie i know this cuz i asked him myself back in the 90s when i talked with him over the phone !!!
The name String of pearls had nothing to do with the movie version. My Dad who wrote the song gave the tltle because he grew up on Pearl Street inBoston where his relatives lived. Al Gray
@Syzygy60 No doubt Miller contributed ideas to his arrangers, but he wasn't responsible for the finished product. He did very little arranging after the band became popular in 1939,
@shaunsstuff79 Not a false statement!! Jerry Gray, Bill Finegan and later Billy May did all the arrangements for the Miller library. Miller contributed no arrangements but obviously approved the final chart. Miller chose the soloists on all his up tempo material as well as the ballads. That's the truth!
@4205lr ok i know thats not true cause glenn was constantly arranging for his band thats what his natural talent was is arranging!! but to prove it ill ask paul tanner next time i phone him which im gonna do here real soon cuz its been awhile since ive talked to him
@shaunsstuff79 I am not suggesting that Miller was not an excellent arranger. He did many fine charts for the Dorsey Brothers orchestra in the mid 30s. All I m saying, and it is confirmed in the book Moonlight Serenade by john Flower, that when he became a band leader, he had no time to be a full time arranger. That is why he hired Finegan and later Jerry Gray. Trumpeter Billy May also contributed. May arranged "Take The A Train" and "Ida".
@4205lr yeah i know the story about billy may !! when he and his wife divorced part of their settlement was that she got writing credit 4 alot of his songs and thats why u see her name 9arletta may) listed instead of billys name !! thats 4 all of u who didnt know lol
Sandra, I'm so happy you enjoyed this clip! I love his music too...and this movie is one of my favourites. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and all the stars.

@555agray Your father contributed a lot to the success of the band. People tend to forget the arrangers and believe that Miller did the arrangements!
