Wow!!! That guy who just started back in 2009 was great. He made everything he was wearing. It looked great. He gives me inspiration that no matter how old you are, you can learn!!!
wohoo.. i just got and old sewing machine like the guy advised yesturday... straight stitch and zig zag... im gonna be watching all the threadbanger sewing videos after christmas... :D cant wait
@lexisorandom If you don't mind repair projects, try eBay. I bought one for $20 (shipping included). But,I couldn't handle it. So, I scrapped it and bought one from Sears for less than $100. Either way you cut it, it's still a good deal
Hi Hope you're doing good. I am fairly new to Youtube, And am doing pretty good in terms of views but not subscribers which sucks but im not complaining i love each and everyone of them for subscribing :) My videos are beauty related and DIY and Fashion :) if you like that it would be so cool if you subscribed to me:) Honestly, it makes my day when I see even one more person has subscribed to me.
I have 5 sewing machines... all are from GoodWill and have all been reconditioned by my friend the "sewing machine "doctor, such a great way to recycle old machines. Also, I use alot of skirts and shirts , sheets, pillowcases and large material things to make my costumes... I do costumes for a theatre, and we have almost no budget, this recycles and re purposes lots of material that could end up in a land fill
The guy that started sewing under half a year ago is really inspiring. What he was wearing looked great, I thought it would take years to get that sort of finished product.
Great Tips. I've been sewing for years and learned a few things I didn't know, like the fix for the looping and the lubricating your needle when sewing denim. Thanks so much.
These are actually helpful even for experienced sewers. O have been sewing for 15 years, and I was having a problem with my thread looping on the bottom. I assumed it was a problem with the bobbin thread but I just learned from this video that it is the top thread! Thanks!
The grain of the fabric runs parallel to the selvedge (the funny edge on the top and bottom of rolls of fabric - it may be a different colour or have writing on it and it doesn't fray).
Patterns are cut on the grain or the bias (45 degrees to the grain) to control how the garments fall.
Ever had seams in your clothing that wont sit straight? that's because the cutter was lazy and cut off grain (it saves them money and happens alot in cheaper garments)
is there any way you guys could do a video on how to sew a button and make a proper button hole for jackets without a sewing machine?
please because i bought this jacket and wanted to change it up but i need to find out how to sew on the button and make the button hole without a sewing machine.
I don't even qualify as a beginner - I'm gearing up to buy myself my very first sewing machine! Both of my parents can sew & my grandpa was a tailor, so there is hope for me, lol. This was a great video because it got me excited about getting underway and just starting out. Thank you!
I have a 1950s Singer Sew-O-Matic 5000 (I know, great name) because it's the only sewing machine in the house. It works great. The tension is set, the stitches are all good. When sewing I just change the length, barely.
Love the guy near the end who recommends buying an old mechanical machine. That's so true, when you're starting out and even after it's helpful to know that it's simple enough to understand what's going wrong quickly and fix it easily! Nice outfit he made!
My first one was one my grandmother gave me that was probably from the 50's. I just wanted it until I could save up my money for one of my own. I loved it, and not it makes good decoration. :D
the "measure twice/cut once" tip is a keeper! everyone should follow that tip. i am always very anxious to cut and i never measure twice, and i always end up messing up somehow.. so MEASURE TWICE!! :)
You can saturate a cotton ball with the solution and wipe it on the needle as needed that way you do not have to take your needle off or have alot of drips from the solution if u were to drip it on the needle......can you say run on sentence 0_o
oh my gosh! i LOVE that microphone :D too cute! and those tips are great, i didnt know about the loops on top and loops underneath part...ya learn something new everyday :]
I know right! I was just adding some patches to a hat the other day and it looked like I had done, but when I looked underneath..... LOOPS GALORE!!!! good to know how to solve it :] Thanks once again threadbanger!!
Amen to the thrifted machines tip! I have 5 sewing machines- 2 were bought new and 3 are thrifted vintage machines ranging from 45 to 92 years old. The machines I choose to do all my sewing on now (which is a lot!) are the vintage machines. They are built to last and still sew great!
Awesome video, great tips!! I must agree- I have a Kenmore from the 60's, it's the best workhorse that I've ever owned. I have four other sewing machines in my studio, but I always end up going back to the old Kenmore for the heavier projects- with some good oil and minding of the belts, that thing will never stop working!
My machine is from the late 60s and it is so solid! My mom's machine is from the 80's and when it runs, it sounds like it's made of plastic. I got mine from the Salvation Army for $25. I had a friend pay me $30 to fix some clothes of hers...so I already got my money back plus some!
I have a old Viking which is a English Singer. I paid 10.00 for it and it was a machine used by a Quilter for years. It is worth alot more then that and its a work horse to boot I will never give it up I dont care how good I get. newer is not necessarily better!

Another tip : Don't get angry! Or if you do, turn off your machine, walk away, and leave the project alone for 5 minutes.
Working while angry will only make the project that more difficult.
