  • Wow!!! That guy who just started back in 2009 was great. He made everything he was wearing. It looked great. He gives me inspiration that no matter how old you are, you can learn!!!

  • There isn't anymore threadbangers? I am just learning about them... I feel cheated >_____<

  • wohoo.. i just got and old sewing machine like the guy advised yesturday... straight stitch and zig zag... im gonna be watching all the threadbanger sewing videos after christmas... :D cant wait

  • Ahhh, when thread banger was good and nice to watch.

  • "You can clean your eyeglasses with it" :D

  • I have FREE maschine!!! ... What is funny on lubricated needle??.. Onne just wants it go right thru and quick, no??

  • "Measure twice and cut once..." I think that's the best one. And I also think that the best, best one is the last lady that said to keep on trying.

  • i need a sewing machine... :{

  • @lexisorandom If you don't mind repair projects, try eBay. I bought one for $20 (shipping included). But,I couldn't handle it. So, I scrapped it and bought one from Sears for less than $100. Either way you cut it, it's still a good deal

  • I Missy u guys:( arg

  • Hi Hope you're doing good. I am fairly new to Youtube, And am doing pretty good in terms of views but not subscribers which sucks but im not complaining i love each and everyone of them for subscribing :) My videos are beauty related and DIY and Fashion :) if you like that it would be so cool if you subscribed to me:) Honestly, it makes my day when I see even one more person has subscribed to me.

  • These people make me want to hug them. Is it possible that all DIYers on this world are awesome persons?

  • I have 5 sewing machines... all are from GoodWill and have all been reconditioned by my friend the "sewing machine "doctor, such a great way to recycle old machines. Also, I use alot of skirts and shirts , sheets, pillowcases and large material things to make my costumes... I do costumes for a theatre, and we have almost no budget, this recycles and re purposes lots of material that could end up in a land fill

  • I have used on old Kenmore sewing machine from the 70's, it was offal.

  • who think they need to use a whole blade if they need cut a cm??

  • It's not economic to change ur needle after every project

  • I'm thinking about starting to learn how to sew, thanks for the advice!

  • Thanks.

  • The guy that started sewing under half a year ago is really inspiring. What he was wearing looked great, I thought it would take years to get that sort of finished product.

  • kenmore has sewin machines?

    hmm

  • Is that woman at 4:50 selling furry bras? That kind of freaks me out....

Other than that, great video though.

Love ThreadBanger, it's helped me so much!

  • 2:10 is one of the best tips

  • amazing tips

  • Anyone else get a chuckle when the advice was to lubricate your needle?

  • perv......lol

  • I did. baha (:

  • haha

  • that made my eyes widen i always have my mind in the gutter :)

  • I have a Kenmore! xD

    Thing is gheeeettoooo.

  • Great Tips. I've been sewing for years and learned a few things I didn't know, like the fix for the looping and the lubricating your needle when sewing denim. Thanks so much.

  • the lady at 2:22 was selling some pretty ugly clothes haha.

  • All her stuff is made from recycled jeans.

  • I love threadbanger!!

  • These are actually helpful even for experienced sewers. O have been sewing for 15 years, and I was having a problem with my thread looping on the bottom. I assumed it was a problem with the bobbin thread but I just learned from this video that it is the top thread! Thanks!

  • I'm tickled that someone got use from that tip. It happened to be me. Never had a camera in my face before haha.

  • thnx guys!! this will be REALLY helpful for my textiles project at school!!!!!

  • what's a grain?

  • The grain of the fabric runs parallel to the selvedge (the funny edge on the top and bottom of rolls of fabric - it may be a different colour or have writing on it and it doesn't fray).

Patterns are cut on the grain or the bias (45 degrees to the grain) to control how the garments fall.

Ever had seams in your clothing that wont sit straight? that's because the cutter was lazy and cut off grain (it saves them money and happens alot in cheaper garments)

  • thanks a lot =]

    love tetris too, btw. hahah

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Thank you! You people are the best! All your tips are welcome, and further more, helpful!

  • is there any way you guys could do a video on how to sew a button and make a proper button hole for jackets without a sewing machine?

please because i bought this jacket and wanted to change it up but i need to find out how to sew on the button and make the button hole without a sewing machine.

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!

  • amazing!!!!

makes me want to dust off my machine and put knitting away for a while lol

  • 4:30

is the a fuzzy bra with paw prints on it?

Oh dear, what has this world come to.

  • HAHA i thought that was a lamp lol =]

  • Great tips!!! Thanks! <3

  • nice too bad i dont sow lol

  • finally thank you thank you thank you. You all have solved my problem. all i have to do now is re thread the top thread

  • I don't even qualify as a beginner - I'm gearing up to buy myself my very first sewing machine! Both of my parents can sew & my grandpa was a tailor, so there is hope for me, lol. This was a great video because it got me excited about getting underway and just starting out. Thank you!

  • that blond simplicity woman that was in that other video is cool! i wanna hang out with her! haha

  • Another tip : Don't get angry! Or if you do, turn off your machine, walk away, and leave the project alone for 5 minutes.

Working while angry will only make the project that more difficult.

    =)

  • I have a 1950s Singer Sew-O-Matic 5000 (I know, great name) because it's the only sewing machine in the house. It works great. The tension is set, the stitches are all good. When sewing I just change the length, barely.

  • Could someone tell me what "measuring the grain line" means, please?

  • great tips! thanks!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH

These tips helped me soooo much.

I actually watched it twice :3

  • The best machines are the old ones. And they´re cheap.

  • great tips!

  • Love the guy near the end who recommends buying an old mechanical machine. That's so true, when you're starting out and even after it's helpful to know that it's simple enough to understand what's going wrong quickly and fix it easily! Nice outfit he made!

  • My first one was one my grandmother gave me that was probably from the 50's. I just wanted it until I could save up my money for one of my own. I loved it, and not it makes good decoration. :D

  • The denim recommendation was useful. I use Mink Oil for leather stitches.

  • This was great! Nice editing!

  • "if you have looping underneath, your problem is on top." brilliant thank you so much!

  • yay! Sydney aussies FTW!!

  • What a GREAT video!

  • best video! super cute all the lil old ladys :D

  • arhh so nice to hear a fellow australian!

  • so true....

    !!!

hey thread banger you should show us how to make patterns out of our existing clothes without wrecking the clothes!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i'm a fellow australian

    brisbaner though ;)

  • im from sydney

  • Excellent tips, best episode I've seen all year!

  • 2:53 thats what she said lol

  • ahahahaha FTW!

  • XD that got me laughing

  • great tips for a beginner.. thanks for posting!

  • i love the second lady. reminded me of my aunt who passed :'(

  • Im sorry about your aunt. I loved her to, she seems so sweet :)

  • awwh thanks. yeah, that's totally how i wouldve loved to have a grandma.

  • Props to the lady who mentioned Skin-So-Soft!!!!

  • Thanks for this vid, very useful tips, esp the one for denim.

  • Peter Lapin...that's incredible...you rock!

  • thankx for the tips

  • great tips, gotta keep some in mind or all if possible!

  • the "measure twice/cut once" tip is a keeper! everyone should follow that tip. i am always very anxious to cut and i never measure twice, and i always end up messing up somehow.. so MEASURE TWICE!! :)

    its great advice

    (oh that rhymes!! :)

  • 1:13 that was the girl who did the croquis!! :)

  • ????

  • For the through-denim needle lubrication, do I just dip it in the solution or what?

GREAT TIPS, BTW! Love ya, TB!

  • You can saturate a cotton ball with the solution and wipe it on the needle as needed that way you do not have to take your needle off or have alot of drips from the solution if u were to drip it on the needle......can you say run on sentence 0_o

  • Thank you for the response, 911no! I'm thinking Q-tip now.

  • Good luck!

  • Wow. I'm super impressed with the guy from New York. Thats amazing. :]]]

  • Hey -- I would be so happy to get an old electric Bernina 830. Keep it in mind if you have one and want to sell it!

  • oh my gosh! i LOVE that microphone :D too cute! and those tips are great, i didnt know about the loops on top and loops underneath part...ya learn something new everyday :]

  • I know right! I was just adding some patches to a hat the other day and it looked like I had done, but when I looked underneath..... LOOPS GALORE!!!! good to know how to solve it :] Thanks once again threadbanger!!

  • my fashion teacher has the 11th commandment and that's "RESPECT THY GRAINLINES!"

  • Yea! Welcome to Michigan! :)

  • My tip is... when in doubt, make it bigger than you think you'll need. You can always take it in but you can't always add more fabric. ^_^

  • YUS!

  • bingo!

  • Wow, this was amazingling useful. =) I do not sew often, but I know I can use some of these tips!

  • Amen to the thrifted machines tip! I have 5 sewing machines- 2 were bought new and 3 are thrifted vintage machines ranging from 45 to 92 years old. The machines I choose to do all my sewing on now (which is a lot!) are the vintage machines. They are built to last and still sew great!

  • Awesome video, great tips!! I must agree- I have a Kenmore from the 60's, it's the best workhorse that I've ever owned. I have four other sewing machines in my studio, but I always end up going back to the old Kenmore for the heavier projects- with some good oil and minding of the belts, that thing will never stop working!

    ~Kat

  • I HAVE A KENMORE! And MY mom has 2Singers. Old machines but they work great!

  • My tip is...watch every single threadbanger video and you'll soon have millions of ideas and creativity just pumping through you. Lol. ;)

  • i got a sewing machine on ebay for $20 and it was almost new!

  • My machine is from the late 60s and it is so solid! My mom's machine is from the 80's and when it runs, it sounds like it's made of plastic. I got mine from the Salvation Army for $25. I had a friend pay me $30 to fix some clothes of hers...so I already got my money back plus some!

  • ha! that's wassup!

  • Great Tips!

  • I have an old Kenmore sewing machine from the sixties, and I LOVE it. That and my Brother machine just make my life.

  • hahaha needle lube.

  • my top tips are never leave loose threads, always cut them off and ALWAYS iron your seems flat!

  • Sweet. Thanks!

  • I have a old Viking which is a English Singer. I paid 10.00 for it and it was a machine used by a Quilter for years. It is worth alot more then that and its a work horse to boot I will never give it up I dont care how good I get. newer is not necessarily better!

    Check garagesales!

  • great tips

  • there's a sewing EXPO?!?! Love it! Awesome!

  • I'm about the rotary cutter. I showed my grandma and she's in love with them too now!! A grabbitt is great to use instead of a pin cushion.

I got an awesome machine on craigslist. All kinds of stitches!

  • how cute! I love older women, they're just so... I dunno, cool! I can't wait for the next video + all of the halloween costume ideas! Brilliant.
