@basketball16 you don't control it, it's a robot, it controls itself. You make a program on you computer and put it on the nxt. The program might be "run motor A at 2 rotations per second for three seconds clockwise, wait for sound 45 decibels or higher, then run motor B at 1 rotation per second for 9 seconds counter clockwise, or after 50 seconds run motor C at 3 rotations per second for .5 seconds clockwise, repeat." for a VERY SIMPLE program example.

does your robot drive 100% straight? with a school project it never did, so basically we had to work with a light sensor directed at the ground and following white stripes of tape.

This project is just a driving base that you can add things to, with the 3rd motor ready to accept attachments. See, for example, Hammer Car, Claw Striker, Forklift.
