If it is a larger point of impact, then it will spread the pressure evenly over a wide space, which would hurt less than having all of the pressure on a small point of impact. This affect can be seen when you push a ballon on a bed of nails, it takes a lot more pressure to pop than on one nail, which pops it right away.

you cant compared them honestly they can vary. usually all paintball guns shoot around the same velocity but airsoft can go from 200fps to 550fps. 550fps with the right weight bbs will hurt much more than paintball but at the average 350 fps with like .25s its pretty equal.
i have a modified Ares AW338 sniper rifle for airsoft, it fires a .33 gram specialized aluminum bb at over 750 feet per second. i can DROP people at 75-100 yards. i don't wanna hear that airsoft doesn't hurt...

@crazyteddy37 there is a reason for it, to lower the velocity, i worded it wrong im sorry. but i use the aluminum bbs for the weight and ultra seamless-ness of them. and the sheer intimidation factor, i have enemy team members hiding because of the straight fear of the weapon. with the .33gram the rifle shoots at about 550-570fps, enough to make a substantial presence when hit. the teams here take all necessary safety precautions, so we are okay to play with those velocities.
The way I see it, an airsoft hurts more against bare or lightly covered skin due to lower weight and size, and is more of a sharp feeling. Paintball hurts more versus heavier clothing such as a BDU, sweatshirt, and/or tactical gear because of the impact of the larger projectile.
@GamesTSF a Gas powered, or blowback, airsoft gun, shoots harder. They tend to have a higher FPS. And airsoft guns tend to have a higher RPS, because they run off of a battery. So airsoft would hurt more, in reality. They both hurt though.
Anyway, it depends on a lot of things. Non-gas guns pretty much entirely depend on the spring-some springs let a gun shoot 100FPS, some go up and over 600. For Gas/GBBs, different gasses are more powerful, as well as other circumstances. I believe it goes weakest to strongest: HFC134a, Green (most common), CO2, Red.
@GamesTSF I have a KWA SR10. Look it up, it shoots 400 FPS and over 20 rounds a second. And i play CQB(Close Quarters Battle) so when i see somebody, i shoot them about 10 times at 400 FPS. IT hurts. A lot.
But i have wanted to play paintball too. But paintball is A LOT more expensive. ;)

airsoft. i was in an airsoft game and got shot in the arm at least 40 times... for the next week when ever i flexed, bb's would pop out of the holes in my arm. fucking hurts! when i play paintball i just go in a wife beater. doesn't hurt.
Paintballs have a wider point of impact, making a larger welt (as seen in the video.) With airsoft, it's a smaller point of impact making the welt smaller. In theory, paintballs would hurt more, but just because a wound is smaller does not mean it hurts less. I had a fucking bigass scrape on my leg and I just walked it off, the next day I got a paper cut and it stinged like hell for the next six hours. So do a bit more research before saying "X hurts more than y."

personally, they are both fun games. But I like airsoft because it is more realistic, alot cheaper, and doesnt ruin clothes with paint. But both are really fun, regardless on which hurts more, because that is not what the games are about

you cant compared them honestly they can vary. usually all paintball guns shoot around the same velocity but airsoft can go from 200fps to 550fps. 550fps with the right weight bbs will hurt much more than paintball but at the average 350 fps with like .25s its pretty equal.

i have a modified Ares AW338 sniper rifle for airsoft, it fires a .33 gram specialized aluminum bb at over 750 feet per second. i can DROP people at 75-100 yards. i don't wanna hear that airsoft doesn't hurt...

@crazyteddy37 there is a reason for it, to lower the velocity, i worded it wrong im sorry. but i use the aluminum bbs for the weight and ultra seamless-ness of them. and the sheer intimidation factor, i have enemy team members hiding because of the straight fear of the weapon. with the .33gram the rifle shoots at about 550-570fps, enough to make a substantial presence when hit. the teams here take all necessary safety precautions, so we are okay to play with those velocities.

The way I see it, an airsoft hurts more against bare or lightly covered skin due to lower weight and size, and is more of a sharp feeling. Paintball hurts more versus heavier clothing such as a BDU, sweatshirt, and/or tactical gear because of the impact of the larger projectile.

@GamesTSF a Gas powered, or blowback, airsoft gun, shoots harder. They tend to have a higher FPS. And airsoft guns tend to have a higher RPS, because they run off of a battery. So airsoft would hurt more, in reality. They both hurt though.

Anyway, it depends on a lot of things. Non-gas guns pretty much entirely depend on the spring-some springs let a gun shoot 100FPS, some go up and over 600. For Gas/GBBs, different gasses are more powerful, as well as other circumstances. I believe it goes weakest to strongest: HFC134a, Green (most common), CO2, Red.

@GamesTSF I have a KWA SR10. Look it up, it shoots 400 FPS and over 20 rounds a second. And i play CQB(Close Quarters Battle) so when i see somebody, i shoot them about 10 times at 400 FPS. IT hurts. A lot.
But i have wanted to play paintball too. But paintball is A LOT more expensive. ;)

@StyLdDesire Mm, most of the airsoft CQB fields around me limit at 350 so I wouldn't know :P. A lot are semi-only too (350FPS I understand, but I'd kinda like to see off the semi-only thing). I've played paintball, and it's very fun, but personally I prefer not having a hopper sticking over my gun, and a CO2 tank out it's ass... I find it awkward compared to something based of real steel weapons. Nevermind the ease of just changing magazines :P

well here is the theory paintballs cause a larger welt radius wich bbs create smaller but if u looked closely the bb was really purple and the paintball was a light purple. so in theory if u put the paintball welt closer together it creats a deep purple so paintballs hurt about 2 to 3 times as much as a bb. oh yeah wear FREAKIN EYE PROTECTION NEXT TIME U DOUCHEBAG U WILL GO BLIND AND NEVER EVER SHOOT ANOTHER PAINTBALL AND OR BB EVER!!!!!!!!!

airsoft. i was in an airsoft game and got shot in the arm at least 40 times... for the next week when ever i flexed, bb's would pop out of the holes in my arm. fucking hurts! when i play paintball i just go in a wife beater. doesn't hurt.

Paintballs have a wider point of impact, making a larger welt (as seen in the video.) With airsoft, it's a smaller point of impact making the welt smaller. In theory, paintballs would hurt more, but just because a wound is smaller does not mean it hurts less. I had a fucking bigass scrape on my leg and I just walked it off, the next day I got a paper cut and it stinged like hell for the next six hours. So do a bit more research before saying "X hurts more than y."

@eleszar1 less surface area= more force behind the bullet. paintball=250fps airsoft can be upwards of 400fps. and airsoft has a smaller surface area, is hard plastic that doesnt break on contact, and is shot at far greater speeds. in terms of instantaneous pain, airsoft hurts far more. in terms of a larger bruise. thats paintball.

Airsoft hurts more and does more damage. They both do hurt but paintball doesn't hurt as much. I don't want to explain it all again. If you disagree I will explain why. I've liked both airsoft and paintball but I'm into paintball now and I will give you an unbias (to the best of my ability) view of a comparison.
