You know what always gets me is how much power they must have to be able to impact and wipe out a planet like that. I never see such devastating power like this until obviously homeword 2 on the last mission. Still it always shocked me.

I also couldn't get over the fact of how they let the Higarans be spared the first time, and then they so casually wipe them out the second time. All said and done, amazing segment and game.

When you know the whole plot it makes sense what they did. The Hiigarans were the most dangerous race alive, possibly even worse than the Taidan. There main power was the hyperspace technology so when you stripped them of it and spared them. You can understand why when they detect a new warp drive they would burn the world.

Seems too extreme a way to go about it. It would have been simpler to ask the mother ship for the core back and explain why it was needed to be taken from them. The slaughter of the two defenseless salvage corvettes really hit me hard the first time I saw this...and it only built from there as the planet gets hit.

I also thought it very sad how you can see a couple of Kharak scout fighters flying around trying desperately to defend the shipyard but being totally outclassed by the regular interceptors and bombers.

Remember..these arent nukes these are Atmospheric deprivation weapons...THEY BURN THE SKY no one live....and this was by far the most powerful moment i've ever experienced in a game I litterally cried I was not expecting Kharak to burn, very powerful moment for an 8-9-10 year old back in those days

Ironically, the Emperor screwed himself with this stunt. After releasing the mission recordings as propaganda in hopes of quelling the increasing Taiidan disgust with their government, he achieved the exact opposite effect.

This scene was so powerful the first time I saw it.

"Surface temperature fifteen twenty-three and climbing..." Gosh, they literally burned the planet. And the worst part is, it was only a frontier fleet that committed the genocide.

the funny thng is that the first time you watch this video during the first time you play it with out reloading the levels, the taiidan ships have orange jet trails but if you reload the levels they will have yellow jet trails

Since there is no music, it just makes the vid more realistic. Like as if you were there. When I first played through HW and saw this cutscene, the Taiidan felt invincible.

I don't know about the rest of you, but this cutscene, when I first played through it was SO powerful. I have no idea why, but after when Fleet Command tells you that the cryo pods were the last of the race, it just draws you into the story.
