  • old video i know, but i love the sound you're getting when playing these. Coming acrossed these made me learn some of my fav doom songs.

  • 240p :(

  • just tune to d standard dgcfad and drop the low d to c and play the shit two frets higher on the lead stuff then if your playing with a floyed you dont have to fuck with everything on your guitar

  • So it's cgc but wots the standard tuning

  • I want part 2 so bad if I'd knew were you live i would kid nap you.

  • It will be nice to convince Carmack or ID creative directors to include this masterpiece in the Doom4 Game.

  • Your E1M3 is also fabulous! Probably my very favorite

  • 10 people still have nightmares from playing DOOM Episode 1 Level 8.

  • Sounds creepy. I love it!

  • you look like my english teacher :D

  • rofl - wat kind of acoustic is that, it looks like mine

  • Put this up on OCRemix.

Seriously, this song kicks the ass of every other Doom song on the site.

  • Your version sounds like your channeling The Crow (meaning it's sounds like something that would play during the movie or tv show) rather than the Doomguy. I like it either way though

  • What is wrong with you people he fucking wrote it i think he knows how to play it

  • @aderandie2 he didn't write it hes copying it from a 1990 game called DOOM

  • @littlebigplayer900 no he wrote it to guitar obviously a cover of from the original midi version is what im implying not that he invented it from thin air

  • amazing!

  • you are awesome, thank you for your work.

  • the best cover that music

  • I love your version of E1M8!

  • lol, what happened at 9:08, you loosed yourself :)

  • I would have worn a black shirt with this video

  • you should do tab for all of the songs

  • Sign of Evil

  • dude dont' u have a video with doom 1 e1m1 lead guitar? =/

  • dude have you tried playin it with stander tuning and playin it on one sting ?

    like the firts part

    B: 8 8 6 4 8 ( with the same bends on the first one )

    B; 8 6 13 6 8

    6 6 13 16 13

n you the same for the rest without juming strings

  • @abodyzee87 Absolutely, yes, you could play this with standard tuning. In hind sight I should have done this video that way, but I was planning on doing a pt1 and pt2 thing with the rhythm part coming second. But I never made that because I just ran out of time to do stuff like this.

Having said that, playing it on one string would be crap. There's a reason there are 6 of them. An A on the low E string sounds totally different than it does on the A string.

  • @sonicclang Wouldn't it have been even more logical to teach this in Drop C tuning rather than having a weird mix of string tunings?

  • @thetoobnoob Yes, that would have been logical, except I was planning on doing part 2 immediately after this but didn't get around to it. Part 2 was going to be the rhythm guitars. This is the way you would tune if you wanted to play it in a band. Or just tune however you want and figure it out however you want.

  • Why are so many people not using the real names of the doom songs? This one's actually called 'The sign of evil' instead of E1M8.

  • I've explained this a hundred times. When we were making the mod, a group of guys were remaking the levels and I was remaking the songs. When you're trying to keep things organized, what do you think is less confusing?

Level "E1M1" goes with song "E1M1".

    Or...

Level "Hangar" goes with song "At Doom's Gate".

Now, multiply that by 9 (the number of levels we remade), and you can start to see why I never bothered learning the song names. It doesn't matter, it's a game, not an album.

  • @sonicclang

Well actually I googled this same thing and came up with another title, its called hell beneath, so which one is right?

  • @Wehrkraft

i dont know what your mean

but this is Phobos anomaly (E1M8) not ths sign of evil

    so get your facs right!

    Cheers!

  • @nargarothfreak phobos anomaly is the name of the level, they are talking about the name of the music which is sign of evil

  • @EdRulez2306

    oojey that is right

    sorry:P

    Cheers!

  • my favorite doom song ever

  • amazing, really helped alot =)

ive always wanted to play this song

i think your version is SO much more hardcore, its more of a run and kill song, yet the original song is more of a plain evil song

Though i kind of those choirs at the begining =/

  • I heard this and downloaded the song from another video off youtube using a program so I could put it on my ipod. I checked it out later and realized it was done by a well known "Sonic Clang". I just don't get how people can't leanr this by ear!!! XD but who cares, great vid and great song.

  • nice video dude loved it! I don't like doom 3 but the music was kick ass e1m1 - e1m8 mp3s rule

  • the original doom had some evil as music

  • Doom 4 details will be released QuakeCon 2010

  • @10samm10 i hope you are right

  • is there an easy sub 4 the whammy caz juz finger VIB dnt sound as nice as the 1 on here

  • Not really. Your guitar either has the whammy or not. You can either sound like David Gilmore, or not.

  • wheres the rythm vid?

  • Ah, I see. Thank you man.

I just love that fucking heavy bassline, it wasn't present in the 1993 version of the song and it adds so much to it.

  • Yeah man, I really took some major artistic liberties with this song. I needed it to be more heavy and powerful than the original. I don't feel that my version is better at all, just different and cool in its own way.

  • Hey Brian just got done listenin to metallicas album the song orion in one spot sounds alot like E1M8 if u want take a look and listen for urself good friend and fellow doom fanatic The Lone Soldier

  • how do i play the rythm part? its definately not a G chord, judging by my experiments... lol

  • Well, you get the tuning, right? I went through the tuning at the beginning of the video. That really is for the rhythm more than the lead.

  • where is the part 2? =B

  • You didn't happen to make tabs for these did you? I'm pretty bad at following other peoples movements on the fretboard.

  • No, I said each tab as I played it. I figured that was good enough. I hate writing tab.

  • I can understand that. I just figured I would check though. :-)

  • thank you for making these songs but their hard to find.

  • DAMNIT SONICCLANG!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got my guitar in June and your the reason why my left finger tips hurt so damn bad!!!!

lol Im just joking but thanks for putting up the E1m1 and E1M8 videos.

But I gotta say your work here is the reason ive had to change my strings twice since ive had my guitar(instead of being that gift you get that sits around)

    Looking forward to Doom 4?

  • RaZ, it's amazing to me that I inspired you to learn to play guitar. For me and my brother that was Metallica. I can't believe I'm someone's "Metallica" :)

  • Hey thanks again for making the CD3 album and even being nice enough to put it on filefront for free. I really appreciate it.

  • ShortGuy, I didn't feel like getting sued, so that's why I released it for free. But you're very welcome anyway.

  • Ah ok. :D

  • Wow...Wicked!...I didn't really think someone has made such a video so well...maybe or maybe someone has done one with an acustic guitar...and what of the bass lines and other insturments...

    ~L

  • So I learned the tabs to this (or at least I thought I did)

and i noticed the way I learned was substantially different

    I.E. Standard tuning it started on the G string 8(bend) 8 4 6 8

and then still Standard on The D string it was 5(bend) 5 3 1 5

Is this another "correct" way to play this?

  • As long as you're playing the right notes and it sounds right, I'm sure you're fine. The only reason I had my guitar tuned like this was because I was going to do the rhythm guitar tutorial the next day but never got around to it. The rhythm guitar is tuned way down, hence the tuning. You can play this with standard tuning, but the frets will obviously be different. If I had really thought about it, I probably just should have used standard tuning for this vide. Oh well.

  • I need a wammy bar, this is frikkin' impossible without it

  • I play very much in the Gilmore style of leads. You can't do Gilmore solos without the whammy bar.

  • nice job man, you're awesome! btw, what guitar and amp are u using?

  • he is usin a PRS custom 22/24 Guitar and he is prolly using a marshall amp

  • Just for you record, the E1M8 song is actually called "The Sign of Evil"

But that doesn't really matter, 'cause you did a frekin' AWESOME job.

  • Oh, and btw, just an addition, you ever planning on selling thse songs commercially?

  • I can't sell them, Activision/id software would come down on me hard.

And yeah I know it's "Sign of Evil". But when you're remaking 8 songs, working with guys remaking the levels, it's much easier to say E1M1 goes with EM1and so on than "The Hangar" goes with "At Doom's Gate". Really, that would have gotten so damn confusing. We had enough to deal with. So I've just continued calling them by their level names. Everyone knows their real names though.

  • do yu have a video of e1m1 or e2m1?

  • Okay then. Just wondering.

  • Is bethesda less strict

  • this song kicks ass.... you gotta let us download

  • I finally got around to getting the Classic Doom 3 Mod... Man your music goes great with it :)

  • Hey I know you don't like to tab, but do you know if anyone has tabbed this version of this song? I want to play along with a guitar, not 8-bit.

  • I say the frets, what more do you want? :)

  • FRETS-FRETS-FRETS-FRETS-FRETS-FRETS-FRETS-, just kidding awesome job, i always wanted to play that song

  • nice job classic doom ftw

  • Hey Big props to the great rendition of this song! Just wondering if Part 2 is on its way? :)

  • I don't have the free time I used to when I made videos like this. Now I have a kid. Part 2 may never come, I don't know, sorry.

  • OMG, I was watching this video and had visions of an orchestra playing this music, and I could even almost hear it. In fact, I think E1M8 would lend itself very well to an orchestral style, it'd be epic!

  • Yeah man, I hear it too, that would be cool.

  • I remember as kid when playing phobos anomaly... hearing this song really made it feel like I was in the game. You captured that "heroic" feeling in the most epic way possible. Thank you for being born I'm your #1 fan.

  • Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it. Trust me though, you're not my #1 fan :) That prize goes to a kid named Aaron. He loves me with a capital L. He drew me how I'd look if I were in a comic book and sent me the drawing. It's awesome!

  • Wow, you're so lucky!

  • Phobos Anomaly was one of the best DOOM songs ever. Phoboes Lab (e1m5) was sure close behind it. Ultimate Doom has some of the best game music ever.

  • I agree. It's part of what made that game so great. Anyone who disagrees is an idiot.

  • btw awesome job and thanks for making these. I am definitely gonna practice this song. :D

  • You're welcome. I'm glad you like my versions.

  • You did a legendary job on the quake songs too (on your myspace). Btw, a while back you said you were releasing an album, are you going to announce it on youtube?

  • tab plixxx :D

  • What?

  • He wants tabs for the song

  • If he were to turn on annotations, he'd see the tab during the video.

  • Wow...

  • well thx for the infos about the guitar and POD, now i know wat to buy :) .. and about my guitar its also probably the pickups for sure cuz standard pickups sucks from ibanez company

i wanna ask u something, if ur not busy or not bothered, can u do an "enter sandman" rythm guitar cover with the same sound settings ur using in this video the e1m8?

  • Sustain has much more to do with the body of the guitar. The more solid the wood the longer the strings will vibrate. Softer wood, and crappy construction, absorbs the vibrations more. That's why the Les Paul is so great for sustain, because they weigh a ton. Pickups don't have much to do with it because a good guitar will sustain a note without being plugged into an amp.

As for your Enter Sandman question, I wish I could but I don't have time these days for stuff like that, sorry.

  • i see, .. well, wat about a jackson dk2s i knew its good for sustaining notes, i cant afford Les Paul, too expensive

  • ooohhh i hear some of its tune in some vids here on youtube, then i went to see it on google and man theres so many of them, 2.0, xt, xt pro, xt3 live, etc, are they all the same?

another question, i have some notes on my guitar that dont stay playing after i play a note bend or no bend its cutting, like when i play e1m8 i bend 8th fret then after like a few secs the note goes off, it doesnt stay like u, is it the guitar or the amp? i think its the guitar cuz i have so much problems with it

  • They're not all the same. POD 2.0 is the oldest, but you can also find a great deal on it because of that, and I think it sounds great.

You're talking about sustain, and most of it is the guitar. Some of it is skill though. The best guitar out there for sustain is probably the Les Paul, but the thing is a brick house. It's like 20 pounds :) next is probably a PRS. They're so well built and they don't kill you don't hold strapped on your neck.

  • Just practice until you can squeeze as much sustain out of your current guitar as possible. That way when you upgrade you'll sound like a pro :)

  • it has a realy nice sound, thats wat im searching for which i cant find :(

  • What can't you find, the POD? You can buy them all over the place.

  • well first im not all knowing with amps and sounds, so after i heard the distortion sound of ur video, thats wat i want, its pretty similar to METALLICA's black album distortion sound, its like the same sound and thats wat i want to have on my amp etc... my guitar is ibanez grg170dx (i think its a crap guitar for now) and my amp is an AVT 20, but like in stores i cant find that sound that im talking about, i tuned it many times of course but still not clear like i want it

  • If you get a POD 2.0 I can send you the patch so you sound just like this. Or if that's too technically challenging (for you or me) I can write down all the settings and give them to you that way. The Black album is probably in my top 5 albums of all time, if that means anything to you :)

  • hhmmm well, wat is a POD 2.0 by the way?

  • It's an effects processor by Line 6 that looks like a kidney bean, hence the name POD. It uses software to simulate a bunch of different kind of amplifiers and cabinet styles. Its strongest point is that it has a switch for recording direct. If you try recording direct with most effects processors, it sounds absolutely horrible. With the POD it's like you're micing a cab. Do a Google search for "Line 6 POD".

  • hes probably using mesa with some 200+ watt for sure, u can know the answer from the sound its pulling, damn good sound, line 6 head also good

  • Nope. 200 watts is a bit off. I'm recording direct from my Line 6 POD into the computer. I'm tricking your ear into thinking I'm running through a huge amp.

  • Right on. With all the strings tuned down, and the E string tuned to C, you play it like you're D tuned. It's just a lot lower. A lot of the metal these days is tuned to C, but they've got 7 strings.

  • hey sonic wats amp ur using, reply plz thx

  • In this video I'm just using my Line 6 POD straight into my computer. But my speakers are $2,000 studio monitors.

  • Rock on sonic Rock ON!! hope you keep the tutorials going!!

  • Thanks so much for making this vid, Sonic. I spent an hour waiting for it to fully load (I blame dial-up) and I played along on an acoustic (for fun) and finally learned this. Thanks.

  • I can't believe you waited that long, with dial up!!! :D Cheers man.

  • nice video i love this song from doom

  • ok look im retarted how do i tune to a C ? on any string!

  • do you have tab to this??

  • did you do write the music for the original doom or are you remaking it? I always thought that the original Doom music was ahead of its time.

  • Oh man, do I look old enough to have written the music for the original Doom? I was only 14!!! :D No, I just remade the music for the Classic Doom 3 mod.

  • Reply this, sonicclang. Other than the music from Classic Doom 3, what other video game music are you doing or plan on doing, sonicclang? Your remastered versions of the Doom music are hellishly(ironic since the game is all about killing demons) awesome.

  • This music brings back childhood memories!!

    CLASSIC DOOM NEVER DIES!!

    GREAT FROM YOU!!!

NOW I CAN PLAY IT ON MY E-GUITAR TOO!!

  • can you help me i got my new guitar for christmas see the thing on yours that you press to make the sound wavy i do not have that but i do have electric guitar

  • So what's the question? :D

  • do i have to get it installed on my guitar oooor does it come on certain guitars.

  • Some guitars don't have it. The bridge (where the strings connect to the body of the guitar) needs to be mounted on springs. If you had tremolo action your guitar would have come with the whammy bar. More than likely your bridge is rigidly mounted to the body of your guitar. The tremolo action costs more. You just have more to look forward to for your next guitar :)

  • you mean the wammy bar?

  • Wow. Seriously, wow. I just found out about the mod and downloaded the soundtrack and... wow.

I absolutley LOVE the Doom soundtrack and to find such fine heavy remakes is... perfection! AMAZING work, you reaeeaaally managed to capture the ambience and mood, and for me that's nothing short of brilliant.

    THANK YOU! :)

  • Thanks man. I really appreciate comments like that! Since I haven't made a penny off remaking the songs, this is the only real satisfaction I get from it.

  • is that a floyd on there ?

  • You mean the Floyd Rose tremolo? No, absolutely not. I've never had anything but problems with that crappy thing. Unless you have a stage hand handing you 5 guitars during a show, and another guy constantly tuning the ones taken off stage, they're impossible to keep in tune. The tremolo on the PRS is proprietary to PRS. Best quality I've ever played.

  • Dude. How much did that guitar cost? its pretty sick...

  • About $2,000

  • whoa that helped nice vid and guitar

  • Is that a PRS?

  • Yes it is.

  • Thats a SWEET SWEET guitar you got there.. I also LOVE my SE custom.

  • Its reasons like this i hate having a FUCKING FLOYD ROSE!

Cool lesson man, thanks alot! Ill check it out when i get a guitar I can tune down more than half a step without it throwing a hissy fit.

    \m/

  • Is there a text/guitar pro file of this tab anywhere?

    Cheers,

    Uncon.

  • these covers are awesome

i know the rest of the classic doom 3 mod wasnt made because of copyright reasons wasnt it? but if it had been continued, would you have done the music for the rest of the doom mod? just wondering

BTW are you in a band and if so do you play any of these live?

  • Just because the rest of the episodes weren't made doesn't mean the mod wasn't finished :) trust me, the mod was done. By the time we were about 1/3 into the first episode we all knew there was no way we'd be making the other episodes.

I never had any plans to remake the songs from the other episodes.

  • hey sonic clang, if you could, could you upload elm8 renewed but still played like it was originally in ultimate doom. it was my favorite song growing up, but i can't find a version of it that's exactly like the old one but in mp3 format.

  • The lead guitar the way I play it is pretty much exactly the way it is in the original midi. It's actually the only thing I didn't change in the song.

If you can't find the original Doom music in mp3 format, you're not trying hard enough. Google is your friend. You'll find it in seconds.

  • i know but the original was a little shorter and didn't have some many other instruments playing. They way I remember it, it had a lead guitar, a simple beat and a choir that all together made the song sound very sad and made an atmosphere of prolonged suffering

  • Yeah, but the lead guitar is played the same in my version as it was in the original. If you learn mine, you can play along to the original. So what if the arrangement is different? You don't have to play my arrangement when you play along to the midi.

  • I know the guitar is the same, and I can't play guitar any way so yeah sucks for me.

  • check your channel. I just posted a link to an mp3 of the original.

  • Oh but don't get me wrong, the new version is great but compared to its original, its more alive and energetic then the original which was sad and creepy. It is definitely my favorite song and in total honesty, when I was a kid, I would start E4M1 just so I could listen to that song over and over again. And trust me I've looked all over the place for a version of E1M8 that's exactly like the old one but with the new sounds of your new Album for Episode 1.

  • hey man i made a cover of this song and if you would watch it once it goes up sometime today i would grealy appreciate it, because not may people that are cool and do things like this don't really pay attention to the comments that are made

  • Awesome work man!

    I really love your stuff

and how do you get that distortion sound out of your guitar?

    Because it's really cool!

  • Thanks! I use the Line 6 POD. I've dialed in my distortion to my liking.

  • That's cool!

    I'm using ZOOM G2.1

Guess i must just find the most alike sound on my efect!

And i've just learned the song :), i need just a little more practice.

I'll upload it soon as possible.

  • Hey, My GOD Sonicccc! :D

    You Are The Best FOREVER!!!

  • Awesome work. I used this song in my "Grom Hellscream" video (Proper credit was given of course)

  • when is part 2 comming??

  • I have no idea.

  • can u plz consider doing other doom themes sometime soon??

  • Amazing work! This is the best song in the Doom Soundtrack IMO.

Love all your work, keep it up :)

  • Thanks ;) it's my fav too, always was.

  • E1M8 is probably the most memorable Doom theme I will remember for years.

  • dude how many years have you played guitar?

  • Since I was 13 and I'm 29 now. So that's, what, 16 years roughly? I studied David Gilmore's leads more than anything, so this style lead fits me well.

  • Great tutorial. Nice PRS by the way.

  • Thanks. And thanks :)

  • hoooooooo is great and really useful that would be great to get the E1M9 please E1M9

  • I didn't remake E1M9, Thumpmonk did. But trust me, the guitar for that song is ridiculously stupid. That's one song that sounds better as midi than with real guitars. Thumpmonk did a great job making that song listenable.

  • who excatly is thumpmonk?
