if this doesnt hit somewhere deep then what. reminds my me of new years as a kid with all the aunties and uncles and family. pinchin beers then singin the tunes to them. love the straits.

good music started with the rock from the 60's. it went even better when it layed into funk and different more complicated stiles of rock. it all was good, untill 1993, from then it went downwards bigtime.

masterpiece...one of my alltime favs. "when all the birds up on wires, and up on the poles...they can always find a way outta this rain and this cold. you can hear them singin out their telegraph code, all the way...down the telegraph road." brilliant.
When i here this it reminds of the beginning, the beginning of start, it takes me back, the mind builds pictures, just listen with your ears and let your mind do the rest, its so easy.
Easily one of the best songs I've heard. There's amazing depth in this song...music, lyrics, knopfler's voice, everything's beautiful. Fuck the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame for not inducting a great man like Mark. Anyway, he doesn't need to prove himself through such distinctions; he has already proved many times over that he's one of the best musicians ever. Hats off to you, Mr. Knopfler.
...sono cresciuto con i dire....li ascolto da 20 anni...e sono sempre un emozione unica....questa canzone credo sia paragonabile ad una grande sinfonia...ad un opera che rimarra' indelebile nel tempo...grandi davvero grandi.
One of my favorite songs, ever since it came out. I love how the song depicts the rugged individualist becoming dependent on "society", and then having the rug pulled out from under him.
"There's no work here to be found..."
As our jobs are farmed out to third-world countries. Time to return to our roots, once again.
I feel like i'm so talentless when I see/hear giants like this. What an achievement. Amazing music, invoking amazing feelings. I spent my days as a teenager listening to that Alchemy album on my walkman in the summer, whilst walking 4 miles home from work. just me and 4 miles of fields. I could have had a lift if i'd waited one hour, but having that time and listening to this was so much better. Listening to Telegraph road really suited the journey/walk.
The ballad to end all ballads. It's like civilisation on fast forward... man finds a good place to live, lots of people join him, then it gradually turns into the world we know today... and we wonder where the simple times went. Aside from that, suuuuuch a good track, solos aplenty and a band so tight it's unbelieveable :) OK then, I'm a bit biased. this is my number 1 song of all time.
absolutely spot on my friend! two very different bands, but both with genius at their heart - MK and Syd. Been fortunate enough to have seen both. DS 'live in 85' and Floyd on 'Division Bell' (Earls Court). Go easy everyone...and happy listening!

this is the best composition of all time, without a doubt, variation, emotion, pace, and pure genius rolled into one song. a classic. this is not pop, this is m&s pop!!

I'll listen to Brothers in Arms another day, vjszg4. I still feel bad thinking that I could have gone to one of Mark Knopfler's 2006 concerts here in South Africa. He came solo,
and the initial concerts held were so popular, that Knopfler stayed on in SA to do one or two extra concerts.
Did however, go see REM in 2005, in SA; shit venue however with poor acoustics, and REM lacked continuity. Those poor sound engineers had a nightmare that evening readjusting the sound quality at "The Dome".
To vjszg4 : cool it, friend. No comparison implied whatsoever. My heart says this live version of Telegraph Road is the best song ever, my head says Bohemian Rhapsody's better because it was arguably the most difficult song ever put together. And for the record, Queen is my favourite band. To edsonguedes :
If you check out the forum messages on brother in arms on youtube, you will agree with me that brothers in arms really touches most people's hearts more than telegraph road(which is also a beautiful song).
Allright, in that way, to people´s emotions, I can see your point, but Telegraph road touched me somewhere and it nearly makes me cry every time I hear it, although I can´t specificly relate to the story. :)
BIA is very emotional too, but I don't relate to it (yet)
self-righteousness. Who says I'm not ambitious or the billions of other working class people aren't ? Sounds like you live in Hollywood leading plastic lives and watch Pop Idols and and Big Brother. Go and find REAL work you fakes !! Don't worry, Al Qaeda will sort the like of you out, and that day, I'll be there to see it happen.
The song in my view that expresses all emotions, and evokes memories. Funny, but I can't help feeling it is the working class's song. The working class is me, and most of us.
That is why I regard this masterpiece the greatest song of all time, even better than the other masterpiece, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

KaiXevandStanley, I resent your
self-righteousness.

Great song but why make a big deal of being working class cytotoxix. Who wants to be bottom of the heap. Have some ambition for Christ's sake!
