this son is about neil young when he moved into his new ranch. and the "old man" is the old caretaker there. back in 70s though. but this does make me think about my pops
To everyone who thinks he wrote this about his dad or some shit, he didn't. He even says in one of his interviews that the song is about a ranch hand at the ranch he bought. It's basically about how while the ranch hand doesn't think much of him, they are similar and his opinion of him doesn't really matter.
Losing your father is hard. Whether he was there or not. Always know that your Father and God are looking down. Smiling at you. Knowing your doing the right thing. God bless man. :) Thank you for the song.
It's been two years since you've posted this video. I don't know how to wish, other than than I pray that your father is happy and comfortable, in this life or the next. Thank you very much for the video and the song that you shared!
I want to forgive my dad for not being there for part of my life but I also wanna thank him for the part where he showed me the world while I was a kid. now I'm 15 and see him everyother weekend but him not being there all the time make the times that we are together more special I will always be like my dad.
Emile Hirsch kicked ass playing the part of Jay Adams. And another movie he was in, Into the Wild where he played Christopher McCandless totally blew everyone away. If you liked this movie, watch Into the Wild.Funny thing is, in real life Chris ran away from his family and lived in the wild for two years, because of his father's sins. But the funny thing is he was alot like him. It is a must see. Whenever I see this song, I think of this movie and Into the Wild.
I just lost my dad to cancer 6/16/11...Sucked watching him die but being there and forgiving him for not being the perfect dad ment the world to him.I always liked this son so i pulled it up on youtube and it sent me to ur page.Ive been playing my guitar to it and smoking this bong for 45 mins..Over and over and over...Love this song and i love the last 45 mins of my life..Although tears are pouring down my face i dont think i could be in a warmer place......Thanks and i hear ya loud n clear
@rugburnboy I i have moments like that. when tears roll down your face, and you feel angst, pain, sadness; but you dont want to change or leave the moment because you also feel so many other fulfilling emotions. During those moments-angst, pain, sadness mesh perfectly with all of the other emotions. I wish and i am sure that you do to---that you could be in that "warm place" more often. To me its as if you realize a difference between the existence of being alive and the act of living. Peace!
@rugburnboy sorry 4 ur loss bro it must be hard but hitting the bong isant a good thats how jay adams lost his skating carrer and was sent to prison man just saying ur decision but ya...
Daym this song reminds me of my early days of skate boardn. after school we would skate a milk vatt that was laid on its side and you could sneak inside and skate it.. its kinda like that tunnel thing that J skates but all steel yea its super sick and im glad that we had one of the best skate spots ive ever skated and it was local as well no one knew about it but the skaters! any way its on my friends skate vid enjoi look up Liam Campbell its the 3rd one down i think his user name is nzskater32

its funny growin up followin in the footsteps of our fathers, even though they wish better for us we fight them and everyone around us through our youth.. but then you reach the point were you start to see clearly, i use to bump heads with the old man often, we were to much alike he hated it and i hated it, use to knock the fuck outa me reminin me family comes first and all kinds of stuff and at the time i hated him for it, but now i see i loved that man more than anyone else i knew

my dad is a fucking pussy. i love him but he doesn't love me back and it makes me sad. he doesn't want anything to do with me and he's getting older. he wouldn't even listen to this song with me. sometimes i want to die

eeverytime i watch this movie it brings a tear to my eye it just goes to show how someone so good can fall. when he easily had his whole life made for him
dude whoever posted this song i read the que thingy and i love you i just recently lost my father and i know it is very painful but that experience makes you into a man. much respect my song for my dad was rooster by alice in chains cuz he was a vietnam vet 2 terms, he was a real fuckin man, fearless and seemingly invincible
Honestly, I'm selling my boards, and buying an old school cruiser like those. I love skating, but I want to go back old-school. I'm 15, loved this movie. I've been skating since I was 4. My first board was an old school Alva. I was so pumped when I heard there was a movie coming out about the Z-Boys since I've met Tony, and Stacey. GREAT men. Funny too. Now to meet J-Adams.
papi, you say you don't understand why i love skateboarding and write about music instead of politics and religion but you moved from south america with $2000 and eight suitcases to give me a better life years ago, and showed me a respect and love for family and for God. i will always love you. you tell me i will always be your little girl, and i believe that too. sometimes i look at my life and i think that i'm a lot like you were. i love you papito, love your daughter, a <3
Im 14 and this has been my obsession my whole life. I have managed to meet the "lost" z-boy Chris Cahill because my dad had mad connections with the world of skating. My dad was the coolest guy you would ever meet. Just a chill so-cal dad that used to skate with the z-boys and had a passion for surfing and skating. I recently lossed him to drugs.
my grandpa who has passed away few years ago. It was realy tradig to i started to smoke cigarets get drunk and to something illegal and i watched lords of dogtown heard this song i started stop all that stuff and skated all day long in summer.
neil young wrote this song about a caretake at a ranch he bought in 1970 comparing his "young life" to the caretakers "old life", it wasnt really about his father. but everytime i hear it i think of my old man, and everytime i play it will always remind me of him~
Im 14 and have been skating since i was 4. this song just gives me this weird feeling that brings up a pool of emotion and tears. the z boys legacy will live forever, Jay Adams you are my hero. you lived the hardest life out of everyone, and you didnt give a fuck about what came back to you, just about what you put into the sport. ive never met you, nor will i ever most likely, but i love you bro. you give me reason to keep skating today
@Wh1terTh4nEver its people like you that remind there's still some people out there that could still have a good time cruisin' around a pool or street and still have a good time. not everything has to be about 3flips down a 10-set...Ride on man.

If you want the true quote, its "Kiss me granny, love to get me some of the grey beaver!"
Also, in the Bahne-caddilac contest (first one), when the girl says "You blew me away" jay says "What, you wanna blow me?"
It got censored to "What? You want bologna?"
Go look for the directors cut dvd, its got more shit in it :)

Jay didn't care about the money or the fame - He skateboarded cause he had a passion for the sport not the riches

I recently lossed him to drugs.

neil young wrote this song about a caretake at a ranch he bought in 1970 comparing his "young life" to the caretakers "old life", it wasnt really about his father. but everytime i hear it i think of my old man, and everytime i play it will always remind me of him~
