Tales of Vesperia - Grade Farming is Fun

I have 2 blue dice equipped ( couldnt get the third :\ ), have the game on hard mode, have the 1 damage ability and use tidal wave over and over again no problem and went up to 2000 hits and over 100 chains but when I finish the battle I only got about 280 grade! How come you get so much more? Also when I get in a fight I get atleast 4 monsters together, what else am I doing wrong? Why is my grade so much less?

@zapperydoop it's because he's in Overlimit Level 3. For Rita (not sure about the rest), there is no TP consumption as long as she's at level 3 or higher.

My highest score so far is just under 1500 hits (I prefer to stick to level 1 overlimit, and just have my teammates use Pineapple Gels to restore my TP). I could have done better, but I slipped up and forgot to go back into overlimit at the end...

you need the half, quarter, and minimum damage skills learned which is accessed by certain weapons and secondary weapons (an example being yuri's compact sword + 1)

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what, but I've gone through the entire game and not gotten a single point in grade, I tried doing this tactic here, and even without the milky way +1, spell speed, and the blue dice I got the hit counter to the 800's and the FS chain to about 500 or so, yet I still got not one fricking grade point, it's pissing me off and I need to know what I'm doing so wrong that jewing me outta the points

@ShiTheHero oh there is a skill that you can get from synthesizing a "+1" version of the character's starting weapon. it is called "Minimum Damage" and it makes you do only 1 damage. oh and not for you to be trouble to omega, but why are you asking me and not omega? I'm just wondering. :)

@hawk222 there are several ways it can happen. if you ony take 1 damage, then you dont stagger and have that shield. if you have the Void Attack skill, there is a chance that it will appear and you don't stagger, if you are overlimit lvl 4, you don't stagger, if you have the Glory skill from the Last Fencer(?) weapon from doing the final secret mission by killing Duke's second form with a mystic arte. I think that only Yuri can get Glory though

You can also synthesize the Last Fencer. You need to have synthesized pretty much ever other sword and it will appear, but be prepared, it requires 5 of each color star gems, which can be a pain unless you fs chain like in this video.

yes the sand thieves keep saying What the-- yea. its annoying as hell. Seriously though, over 800 grade from one battle? that's pretty damn impressive. Nice job, but how the hell did you manage to make everyone stop attacking? No matter what tactics I use, defend, hold position whatever, they will still attack, I had to give them the no-damage skill just so I could get secret missions. They even use artes with No Artes set; Had to disallow each and every one seperately.

you probably already have an answer for your minimum damage part but your weapon could beaffecting that status, if your weapon is teaching you the ability then it is pernamnet, switch your weapon and un select the skill in your skills menu to remove it ^^

You get Spell End from Psychedelica +1 (?) and Light Magic from Ever Blue I think.

Oh yeah, you should probably get all Overlimit Boosts as possible as they will keep the overlimit longer, and have all your AI's use Taunt 2.

Grade is useful for at the end of the game.

Once you beat Duke and watch all the credits and stuff, there will be an option for "EX New Game" which is, where you use your grade points to buy stuff, such as Keep all Items, 10x Exp and etc...

The FS chains gives you most of the grade points.

I'm starting to get the hang of this, the battles are pretty much identical, but even when i link 2 groups, sometimes i get over 500 grade, sometimes i get about 300, what exactly determines what ammount of grade you get? i checked the info at the end of the battle, but still can't figure it out, is it the max combo, the max hits or the amount of hits used in the battle?

actually, i tried with level 2 + risky ring... it WORKS... but its better with level 3 and wonder symbol. You can still do it in level 2. for anyone that want a tip for level 1 risky ring, just spam 5 tidal waves and during the fifth one, watch the hit meter and hit Overlimit button when it 3rd hit hits... a little bit complicated i know xD i could go over 1200 hits with that :]

Just thought I should mention that you can get a slight boost to Grade if you have the other characters use a knockdown arte (such as Yuri's Wolf Strike) while the tidal waves are going (you get .01 grade every time an attack hits a downed enemy, so with 1000 hits and, say, 10 enemies, that's about 100 extra Grade.)

plus the chain bonus gives you more grade then the number of hits so if you screw up and lose your hits but your chain is still there keep going you can earn 800 grade easy for 200 chain and almost 1400 grade from a 500 chain counter just from one battle
