  • Thanks I know about Saigon Strings. I contacted them before. I like that yours is not decorated, mine is but I like both. There is an artist on u-tube . She goes by riskysquirell. Her Dan Tranh is just like yours. I think they have a higher pitch then mine, Thanks Alot, and keep playing. Keith

  • Let me ask you, where did you buy your Dan Tranh? I might buy a new one and I do need new picks. I want plastic picks instead of metal.

  • At that time, I ordered it from ebay but, originally is been ordered from the saigonstrings website.:)

  • why it sound scary my friend :( maybe because the backround is so dark! :D anyway, i appreciate foreinger khows how to play our instrument

  • Haha, I just made that music up from my top of my head, I didn't meant to come out scary that way and yes, the background was kinda dark but, at least I tried to play something good. Thanks for enjoying my video.:)

  • It sounds like a ghost around. Thanks for trying dan tranh though.

  • Thanks.:)

  • I'm Vietnamese. I'm learning Dan Tranh too. But I don't know this melody :)! why didn't you play some Vietnamese melody ?!

  • Cool. I have made this tune up on top of my head.

I would like to play something like, for an example, "999 Hoa Hong" type song but, I don't know how to play like that yet lol.:)

  • I was very surprised to hear and see you . I am an American man and I have had a dan tranh about 10 yrs. I have gotten lazy but I used to play alot also. I really enjoyed your video. Please never stop. Best luck, Keith

  • That sounds great. Thanks for enjoying my video.:)

  • you are so talented, keep it up

  • Thanks so much.:)

  • I didnt know there was this instrument altought i'm asian btw i love ur playing:)

  • I've always wanted to play that instrument too...Respect for trying to learn it.

  • greetings :D nice playing :D wish i knew where to buy one lol...i'll probably be too lazy to learn it...

  • Thanks.:)

  • it wasn't tuned best but you got some skillz. it's not an easy instrument to play but it's worth practicing it has awesome sensual tune x]keep up the good work x]

  • Sweet! You're really getting some pretty - and thoughtful - sounds of your instrument! Keep it up. You clearly have the talent and sensitivity to succeed!

  • is it tuned rite?

  • It's kinda out of tune because, I don't have anyone that is experienced with dan tranh that could tune it for me.

  • it is called dan tranh don't say dan tranh say dan jun

  • Thanks for the correction. At the time I didn't know how to pronounce it very well. :)

  • I have a Gu-zheng (21 string) and a Kayagum (12 string). You can a reasonably priced guzheng if you look around. I got a full sized one at an asian store inside the in Pineville, NC for $280. It was marked down. I got my Kayagum direct from Korea.

  • ahh i play a Dan Tranh i am also trying to learn it (im taking lessons) i wish you luck with learning but iheard when you do its fun to play xD

  • Sure I will in the future. Thanks for your comments.:)

  • I want a Dan Tranh! Nice playing.

  • thank you very much sharing. I enjoyed your enthusiasm for the Vietnamese instrument dan tranh. it is my favorite instrument as well. :-)

  • do any one know where can I buy the book teach to play or who teach this type of instrument in San Jse

you play really nice, even I don't know about playing music, but I like the sound of this kind of instrument

    Thanks

  • There's a very good player in San Jose (trained at the Saigon Conservatory); her name is To Trinh.

  • you are so brave, welcome to Asia !!

  • (: Ohh, I feel soo welcome :)

  • How do you get strings for this instrument? I cannot find them haha anyway I have just finished re-finishing an old one I got off ebay :) I would appreciate the help

  • wow, big kudos to you! i'm vietnamese, but i don't know how to play such a cool instrument!

  • Thank You (cam on) and yes, you will know how play it oneday in the future.:)

  • maybe you are interested in the chinese instrument guzheng which the dan tranh is derived from. can refer to youtube as additional information. i think finding a teacher for that is easier.

  • Thanks for the helpful information.:)

  • oh man... your dan tranh is really out of tune. from the lowest string you tune in this order G A C D E and repeated all the way to the top. You can tell if it's in tune when u... "rai?" (strum up or down) it'll sound a lot better. If you need help, let me know.

  • lol why would u tell her it's "rai" when she's obviously not vietnamese. i think luvasia only bought the instrument cos she appreciates it but probably doesnt have time to formally learn it, so this video is just random strumming.

    thanks for sharing luvasia!

  • it looks like she wants to learn vietnamese, and i did translate what "rai" means so that she would know, if she ever wants to use the term.

  • exactly!

  • wow, for a beginner yur pretty good at knowing the basics. :D

  • where did you find yours? i was looking on ebay for some but i dont know if i can trust a purchase im gonna be making before even holding it! ^.^

  • you are soo lucky to have that girl! im actually looking for one right now for myself to learn on. nice job

  • Thanks for the comment and good luck for looking for the one for you in the future.:)

  • that was pretty cool what is ur nationality?

  • I'm african/american. :)

  • nice effort, i'm glad to see non vietnamese interested in the culture :D

i love the sound of dan tranh btw

  • Thanks for your comment, I do luv asian culture.:)
