  • Hitchens was a gift to the World - he took responsibility for his own life and never blamed anyone else for his decisions regardless of outcome. A true intellectual, humanitarian and he cared! Whatever you might think of him and his chosen lifestyle - he cared about people and he sought to open our eyes to the illusions. We have nothing to loose but our illusions. I'm so thankfull that he was here and I witnessed it.

  • thanks for your words hitch, you changed lives

    RIP

    sadly missed

  • Good man

  • one less alcoholic pedant bum in the world

thanks for making yourself rich selling books to a bunch of idiots just to remind them they are athiests (ironically we athiests criticize believers for reading bibles and qurans, lol)

the best way to promote atheism is showing the bealievers we can be good people, not barking like this egocentric man or Dawkins

  • @relistic99 you are retarded, he was a great man who pomoted reason and critical thinking, nothing wrong with that

  • @RedStarBelgradefan

if promoting reason and critical thinking is attacking religion to "convert" people to atheism then you are the retard, if a christian comes to you to show you a book called "ATHEISM IS NOT GREAT" would you happily read it?

  • @relistic99 no, its enough that they tell us that we are sinners and that we will burn for all eternity if dont believe in their religion

  • Comment removed

  • @relistic99 well it wasnt a bad idea because he was one of the greatest debaters ever, and believers are attacking us by wanting to teach creationism in schools and spreading dumb superstition in the world

  • @relistic99 Yes because there's never been a case of a Christian preaching alcoholic in the history of time, ever! Learn how to argue and debate you imbecile.

  • @intercoursechef

lol, i dont debate with a retard using the nickname "intercourse" gay, go back to the kitchen like a muslim woman, keep praying hitchens

  • @relistic99 So intercourse is gay? Spoken like a true religious lemming. If intercourse is gay, then you were born through a gay process. Nice logic you've got there.

  • @intercoursechef

and you are a neonazi-atheist hyena, don't call me religious, that is offensive

i talked about the use of your nickname hitchens sheep

  • @relistic99 I am neither a neonazi or an atheist, but please continue assuming that you know me! I'll give you plenty of rope to hang yourself with your presumptive words. People love my business name. I've had my own business now for over 6 years. But you're entitled to your uneducated opinion.

  • @intercoursechef

uneducated opinions (like saying imbecile) are entitled to people who use the "poor atheist" card, then lets go to the streets and intercept any believer we find and try to sell them agressive atheism, they are not arguee with words, they are going to ....

regarding your business name, that is, obviouslly, your business, i am not concerned of what you do to live

  • @relistic99 Until you can take the time to write and conjugate properly, I will treat you like the imbecilic, petulant child that you are. You are incapable of debating in a rational and logical manner, therefor you are dismissed from being taken seriously.

  • @intercoursechef

no, i don't have enough time to waste like, you (bad hitchens imitation) and your melodramatic and pretentious attitude don't impress me

  • But people should know that it isn't necessary, that boredom is temporary, that starting up smoking while ur young planning to give up when ur old isn't as easy as it sounds, that addictions are harder to quit then to start.

  • Coulda done without the lame soundtrack.

  • his life, his business....I miss him

  • @thegirlyoudeserve "his life, his business....I miss him"

I'd not gotten through half the video, or five comments before I was thinking the same thing."

  • It's always so sad when a man who possesses TRUE intelligence, (in this world filled with idiots) passes on before his time.

We MISS you. Chris ! The world is a little darker without your insightful perspectives....

Perhaps it's best you're not here to see that.

  • Ditto to Smurfieboo's comment! I wasn't aware of him until he passed! I'm so sorry. He was so brilliant!! I am so happy that I know him now. What a genius! I quit smoking 20 years ago and haven't been able to really relax since so I do understand. Sure wish it didn't take him so soon. He will be greatly missed. Stupid samslick90 and andromidius too! What a vilolent disgusting post. What a hateful person you are.

  • i'm totally with hitch on that, it makes you who you are, no regrets!

  • Anyone who declares that smoking and drinking and drugs does not help increase your creativity and provide a great service in elevating a persons mostly mundane existence has never tried it. I know that sounds foolish , however as a musician who stopped all of those vices I kind tell you my music is not the same, nor is the company I keep. Whats the point of living longer if your not enjoying life. I am aware this might not apply to everyone but be sure it does for most of us...........PEACE

  • @mtsafaroff It varies from person to person. Drugs do little for me, but alcohol in reasonable amounts makes me much nicer to be around, and caffiene (especially pepsi) helps me concentrate. Just do what makes you feel better!

  • He doesn't look so smart now, does he?

  • @432ps1 Actually, he does. And you pointing that out means little, and serves only to make yourself look shallow. We all have our vices, even if most won't admit it. And we all die, for one reason or another. He knew the risks, and he didn't care because it enriched his life. So yes, he looks EXTREMELY smart, you blabbering baffoon.

  • @andromidius Go fuck yourself you thick cunt. Hitchens was a fat gin soaked fat posh twat who smoked himself to death. Fuck him AND FUCK YOU, you filthy fellating felching faggot.

  • Smoking and alcoholism are addictions

They don't help with anything -creativity, energy, fun.

He'd be alive now if he wasn't so stupid.

  • @samslick90 No fucking shit they are addictions. So is putting salt on your food, and eating fatty foods. And they can help with those things, it varies from person to person, and you have no right to say they don't IF YOU DON'T KNOW PERSONALLY. And yes, he MIGHT be alive now, but would he have been the same man? Probably not.

  • @samslick90 People who kill themselves while enriching the tobacco industry are foolish little pathetic worms.

  • Drivel. What a pathetic old poofter. His fanbois are even worse.

  • You may be a v decent human in other areas - ethical and kind - so I don't judge you individualy - as most christians do all atheists. But if you want to debate point by point so be it. BTW did Hitchens ever ridicule a DYING christian? To all decent people his death is very sad and I for one am very upset by the death of this modern day philosopher.

  • Surely you are joyful at the removal of one of your most charismatic and influential antagonists? Hmmm? How - BTW - do you know that other christians do not take joy in his death- even if you claim you don't? By leave the man alone I meant simply that how would you like it if you were dying(and you will be one day)and a bunchof self-righteous atheists decided to persue you to the grave. The most condescending thing is a christian telling you they prayed for a loved one you lost, it is revolting

  • God bless him. Brilliant minds like his leave the planet, and we are left with those who jump and down on "The Price is Right",

    It's tragic.

R.I.P. , Chris. The world is a darker place without you.

  • Hitchens is one of the few philosophical minds of our time - his charisma is far greater than Dawkins - what a shame he had to die. I bet a lot of chritians took joy at that news.

  • @cleander180 Christians don't take joy in the death of a fellow human being. I found it sad that he willingly denounced Jesus and threw away his own salvation.. You clearly don't understand Christianity if you think we find pleasure in the passing of others..

  • @imax1971 You really want to get into this debate? Christians are the cruelest - through their actions - people I have ever met. They opposse peaceful death because they are arrogant enough to believe they know the mind and desires of an unrevealed divinity. No doubt their are the full gamut of your people - liberals to fundamentalists but to attempt to steal Hitchens' legacy in such a way is revolting. Believe what you wish but leave that man alone.

  • @cleander180 Steal Hichens legacy? What are you talking about? I was addressing your comment regarding joy about his death. Christians take no joy in the passing of people..

"leave the man alone"? Like he left the beliefs of Christians alone? He made a career ridiculing Christian belief.

"You really want to get into this debate?"... Yes I do. Hitchens, besides his anti Christian views was a self proclaimed Marxist and a war monger. Let's talk about that.

    Let's debate. Go..

  • @imax1971 a war monger? the jihadist started this fight against free speech and secularism. rich people start wars (osama/ al quada) and middle class young heros go and fight them (our troops) go fuck urself, u theocratic idiot.

  • @Killerjosh89 He supported the war in Iraq. Many of the "middle class young heroes" you speak of have died and are permanently injured. Many more thousands of innocent Iraqis were killed in the war... For what? Our freedom? The 911 attackers were all Saudis. Osama was as well. War was waged on a country that had nothing to do with 911 and was no threat to us. Senseless war = a war monger.

Don't forget he was also a self proclaimed Marxist.. There is some genius ideology.

  • @imax1971 im not advocating war...war is a serious thing. its ignorant for anyone to say "to war" or "im pro war"...cant change wat happened (wer out of iraq) however, al qada was in iraq before and while we went there, saddam hussein and his mafia family were killed innocents for decades and before the war in 2003....im sick of the self hating american shit. is our CIA corrupt and responsible for bad things? yes, absolutely. they started this war not us. and marx wasnt evil,

  • @imax1971 his political views i somewat agree with (as far as religion and equality but not financial, marx undermines capitalism) im a free think. i pick and choose (i've always been a registered republican, and do uphold tradition GOP values, not conservativism, but have always been a leftist/socialist)

  • @Killerjosh89 I don't mean to be rude, but your comment is incoherent.. Is English your first language? (no disrespect, just a question) I lost you in regards to Marxism... I think I get what you said about the Iraq war... No matter how it is spun, the Iraq war was unnecessary and lead to the death of Americans as well as innocent Iraqis.

My original point was to outline how the so called "intellectual" (Hitchens) was a foolish Marxist and supporter of an unnecessary war.

  • @imax1971 no english is my first language. no disrespect but i dont feeling debating a fucking moron (i.e you, again no disrespect) marx was a philosopher. just put time into looking him up, and the history (which u wont, coz ur an ignorant fuck).

continue on blaming the government for everything, and being apologetic to enemies our the U.S. and believe in dumb conspiracies. Has this been coherent enough for you? I don't care lol fuck yourself

  • @Killerjosh89 Blame the government for everything? Conspiracies? What are you talking about? I simply pointed out that the war in Iraq was unnecessary... None of the attackers on 911 had any connections to Iraq, neither did Bin Laden... Do you have any evidence to the contrary? Once in the country, we found no WMD's.. What threat was Iraq?

The Marxism theory sounds great... Look back in history to see how great it was when applied..

  • In doing so they have freed themselves of the yoke of American imperialism and the IMF; my point is that I think you’re writing off Karl Marx a little prematurely. In fact, as economies around the world continue to shrink, socialism will become even more relevant than before.

  • @1961axis And it will continue to fail. Same as always.

  • @imax1971 You keep mentioning the fact that Hitchens was a Marxist, as though this undermines him in some way. I am of the opinion that it elevates him. Mr Hitchens may be many things, being foolish is not one of them. Incidentally, you’ll find that currently many South American countries – Venezuela and Argentina to name but two – have embraced socialist ideology.

  • @1961axis There is nothing more foolish that smoking oneself to death.

  • @imax1971 and my improper grammer and incorrect spelling..?...dont care lol....fuck yo self

  • the music ruins it

  • Comment removed

  • what awful music

  • hate that he is gone, but it is true he wouldn't have been the same without his vices. So, for us, if we had the choice, we would have to choose between a Hitchens who died young, or another person who would have lived longer but wouldn't have been the same.

  • SO SAD TO WATCH! But I want to remember him as the person that was healthy and that debated any one about any thing. A man that taught me A lot about some many thing and challenged me to want to learn. I THANK YOU CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS FOR OPENING MY NAIVE EYES! WILL NEVER EVER FORGET YOU.

  • Why is there soft-porno music in the background?

  • This is so fucking depressing to see this lion of man clinging to life.

  • @lowlypeasant ill tell you whats even more depressing. He died a few weeks ago! RIP

  • @coxac1 I know. So sad.

  • i don't get it --- please elucidate --- by posting this you appear to be, erm.. trying, to make a show of intelligence or sensitivity at least So why would you then go all out to annihilate the Hitch with some stupid x-movie soundtrack? You poor silly turd.

  • The question I'm asking advec is were do you draw the line between recreational use and depravity?

  • No one will ever be able to fill this brilliant man's shoes.

  • Comment removed

  • to bad his family didn't like him ..:(

  • @914light his family? I take it you mean is brother Peter? Peter is just a fucken lame anyway.

  • @orbital92hotmail ..yes I agree with you ..I know his brother had class and kicked out the trash ...but none of hitchens family was around at the end ..to bad ..:(

  • @914light I have hitch 22, not read much of it yet. But the story about his mum Yvonne is quiet emotive. His brother had class? Dunno about that. What I can say is that he had not even an ounce of the charisma his brother had.

  • I wonder if he ever did charlie

  • Why do people need to drink excessively to concentrate? Mr. Hitchens is a very wreckless man.

  • @mk7644 Who says he did it excessively? And, drugs have been used by MANY creative people for thousands of years to enhance and inspire their work. Marijuana and other psychedelics are brilliant at invoking creative mental states. And more narcotic forms of drugs are great at energizing the mind and body to put in the long hours and mental effort. It is possible to use these things with caution and get the most good out of them. Besides, it's also none of your business what others do.

  • Drugs cause cancer now?

  • I like smoking and drinking too, but I had to stop as it just makes me tied all the time. Or the day after I should say. Is that not the case for other people?

  • @orbital92hotmail Yep. I love marijuana...very clean and natural high. But, alcohol makes me tired and hazy and in a bad mood. I don't like it at all. I can't stay awake after drinking. It's such an awful drug...people really ought to have the option to use safer and better alternatives.

  • @avedic I dunno about weed. I've seen a few people go skitzo on that.

  • @orbital92hotmail Marijuana has changed my own life for the better. It's effects on my creative output(as a graphic designer & musician) have been incredible. I've seen many people ruin their life(and the lives of those around them) on alcohol. Nothing should be illegal. Instead, we should all have access to the truth, to information, and then be allowed to make the best decision for ourselves. Some people may not respond well to marijuana and should avoid it. But not everyone.

  • @avedic well, my own experience has shown me that weed is by far more dangerous. But thats just my experience.

  • @orbital92hotmail More dangerous than alcohol?? Marijuana is not toxic, non-physically addictive, and you cannot overdose. Alcohol is toxic, addictive, and easy to overdose on. Many hundreds of thousands of people die every year from alcohol. Marijuana has never killed anyone. I'm surprised your experience was so different. Care to explain why it was dangerous for you? I'm honestly interested because my own experience with marijuana has been poignant, profound, and positive.

  • @orbital92hotmail Though marijuana may not be right for you, I think we can easily agree that it should be legal. In fact, I think the large majority of people agree that government has no right to legislate what a person may do to their own body. Anyone who disagrees with that is clearly uninformed, fearful of that which they do not understand, and hoping the government will be there to live their life for them. Hopefully, in 2012(almost) we can ALL agree that's a bad route.

  • @avedic well, put it this way. When I was at school, several people I knew smoked skunk and continued to do so into their early 20s. I would say 80% had to go to hospital for mental treatment. The point I am trying to make is, I have known no one who went to a nut house because of booze. That said, I think they were all fucked because they hit it hard in the formative years. My brother smoked weed every day for 5 years, but started when he was 25 and stopped at 30 and it never effected him.

  • @orbital92hotmail That's too bad...and a bit odd. All my friends smoke pot and haven't had any problems. We're in our late 20s. Alcohol landed several people I knew in jail & rehab. Alcohol nearly destroyed my own family with my mother's drinking. Can't stand alcohol...however, I'd never ever want it to be illegal. It is not the government's job to tell people what they can or cannot do to their own body. 51% of Americans are for full marijuana legalization. The day will come.

  • @avedic it would not seem odd to anyone I know. We are coming from 2 very different perspectives.

  • @avedic I dont thinkit should be legal. I think most people would agree with you tho.

  • We will miss you and till we never meet again.

    RIP.

  • you don't need to add gratuitous music to make the interview more emotional. Silence and pauses are authentic. this music is not authentic.

  • @Wayofthedream the music is fine god,<----get it god lol

  • @sunny1378 I haven't got the time for this, but in response to your comment -- Jesus' drug of choice, we are told, becomes his blood during the Eucharist. Many other religions throughout the ages have used various drugs and intoxicants during rituals, prayers, etc.

So the real irony of it all is when clueless cretins spout out unconsidered nonsense and think they are correct. Don't you think?

  • Rest in Hell Hitch....

  • @sunny1378 Go get fucked, sunny.

  • The irony is that if he lived as a true believer of any religion, which all discourage drugs and intoxicants, he would probably still be alive today.

  • @sunny1378 No there is no irony in that, because he probably lived more in one lifetime than most true believers would live in ten.

  • @sunny1378 But then he would not have lived at all.

  • @sunny1378 And he would be too busy worshipping a dumb shepherd, or a child-rapist, to produce the great works of literature that he did. Religion is the ultimate intoxicant.

  • @sunny1378 And if he would've lived when christianity was stronger, he would've been burned at the stake by barbarians for being a free thinker.

  • @MrShysterme

I am not Christian, never want to be. But what happens to religious people under an officially atheist regime? Gulag? Concentration camps? burned churches?

  • @sunny1378 Who said anything about an "officially atheist regime"? It appears you just pulled that one out of somewhere. This has been covered many times by hitch and others, but the lack of a belief (which is what atheism is) is not sufficient or necessary for any atrocity. Stalin did not kill people because of a belief he lacked, he killed people because of certain beliefs he held. I hope that is clear.

  • @sunny1378 Your first statement lends no credibility to your rhetorical 'questions'.

  • His greatest quality was not his own intelligence, but his ability to expose others who lacked it. Legend.

  • What is with the eerie music throughout? No need to overly dramatize the man's words, let him speak for himself!

  • Right on Hitch.

Why attempt to stretch out your existence to 80-90 years if you can't enjoy a few vices. Life is for living not waiting out the clock.

  • Comment removed

  • @trooperJac nail on the head there m8, thats how i live my life enjoy it im not gonna die in some fucking old peoples home after a long boring pointless life

  • wine and other things... ;D

    --------

    --------

  • Does anyone know if Hitchens ever dabbled with psychedelics such as lsd? I would love to hear his viewpoint on such a drug

  • @popjoeandco No he didn't. In his memoir Hitch-22 he said he and his comrades of the socialist movement held contempt for the drug culture of the 60s because they perceived drugs to dull the intellect. I got the impression he was too politically involved to have time for drug experimentation.

  • @JJTD88 You are correct about his early days. From a few other interviews, I have concluded that he may have smoked pot occasionally and used an upper or downer every now-and-then, but he was in no way a regular user.

  • @folkhippy This drug use was during his later years. He had contempt for the "turn on, tune in, drop out" mentality of the late 60s. See the Hitchens/William F. Buckley interview.

  • @JJTD88 politics dull the mind

  • Perhaps if he'd quit ten years earlier he would have gotten away with the whole thing. But, like he said, all life is a wager.

  • There is no God - the great Hitch is gone. And this annoying turd-patty from CSPAN continues.

  • shoulda done pot instead, gonna miss you Mr Hitchens.

  • Good riddance to the braying jackass Christ' Hitchens who supported the sanctions and the war of pelf against Iraq. [Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: "We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?"; Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it." — "60 Minutes" (5/12/96)]

  • @ThePregnancySlaves the sanctions and the wars did not kill the children, nor are responsible for their deaths Saddam, the invader of Kuwait, the poison-gasser of his own people, the mass-grave filler, the UN-sanctions violator, caused and was responsible...and you would not have him removed? You were sold a bill of goods by some Democrats trying to win an election, and they have mesmerized you.

  • @revpgesq : Did 50,000 children commit suicide?

  • Fags (UK context if you please) & Booze are my only dependents!

  • Turn the fucking music off.

  • Christopher hitchins is a clever guy... whats his stance on marijuana legalization?

  • @Igottavirus he is for legalization

  • knight this man.

  • Whats with the music?

  • It would be diefferent without the music. Let´s not be dramatic. He is making an honest comment; leave it like that.

  • In regards to the title, see 1:27

    Wine and "other things"

  • @LaLimoLa As far as the "other things": see the video "Drinks with Christopher Hitchens" where he says "I've no interest at all in narcotics."

  • @LaLimoLa Wine and other things could have easily meant wine and bourbon or beer, you insufferable asshat with no imagination. I have nothing against marijuana, but don't put words in someone's mouth for your own purposes. As far as the line of alcohol and cigs being drugs as well, it comes down to connotative versus denotative meaning and what you obviously meant to imply in your title. If you were half as smart as hitchens on his worst day you would be ashamed of yourself.

  • @MrShysterme Peace and love, people, peace and love. :D But yes, Hitchens didn't smoke marijuana as far as I understand. Don't think it's so much about a Bohemian lifestyle, however. Some people are just less lucky than others, and that's pretty much the gist of the thing. :D

  • @DrKoobie Hitchens talked (before he had cancer) how marijuana saved the well-being of a friend who went through chemo. I'm sure he at least used it when he underwent his own treatment. And surely he used it occasionally before that. I'm sure his drinking didn't help his health...but, I love his stance. He valued what those "vices" added to his life...and rather than denying that, like most people would, he was honest. A great man he was..

  • @avedic

I'm sure drinking could help while going through chemo, also. It's irrelevant. Personally I think drugs should be legalized and regulated, but using his death as an excuse to push drug decriminalization is inexcusable.

  • @DrKoobie Sorry I got so heated, but you won't push a legitimate point unless you make legitimate arguments; and lalimola got under my skin with this one.

  • Ive smoked weed every night (without fail) since I was 17, will this have some negative effect on me somewhere down the road? Probably. But will its negative aspects ever outweigh the positive effects it continues to have in my life? I cannot imagine how.

Unfortunately I was not born with a natural interest in the universe, I was as nihilistic as they come, was not outgoing was not happy. Weed fixed me, sad but true. It has been nothing but good to me so far.

  • I quit smoking a few years ago when cigarettes suddenly started tasting bad to me. I was about a half pack a day smoker near the end. I focused on how yucky they tasted and then just stopped smoking cold turkey. I did chew the gum for a couple of months, but I didn't really need it. It was more of a comfort thing I guess. I suppose it all comes down to weaning yourself off nicotine, and then mind over matter. I hope Mr. Hitchens has many more months with us. I would love to read a final book.

  • we should take fings in proportion fuck it im gna quit smoking and stick to my beer and wine that i drink once a week which dose more good than harm it realises stres, it bring ma friends together bring in new convos and nice with bbq no your limits no alchahol is bad in too much but sum is very useful goo for your heart to

  • hes gonna hitchslap the cancer outta of him.

  • @Killerjosh89 Hope so and I will down one for him!

  • @Killerjosh89 Nope.

  • @Killerjosh89 wrong. he's fucking dead mate.

  • @courtesyclerk .. did you see the date of his comment? lol..

  • @Killerjosh89 It didn't happen :[[[[

  • @ConfuzedSushi I know :/ me and my girlfriend (both recent fans him, just from a year ago) were hanging out, drinking n we heard it on the news n our night came crashing down (shes christian, im not, but loved him and agreed with 100%) so me and her ran out and bought jonny walker black (his fav drink) and toasted to him. we just have to keep what he taught and continue on, hitch would want us to do that.

  • @Killerjosh89 We all hoped for that. Not prayed but we hoped. I miss him so much.

  • I hear he's trying some new experimental medication. Watch Hitch pull through and write a shitload more amazing books.

  • What soul would that be?

  • Thanks for ruining a great clip with your shitty background music

  • @forfrannyglass My thoughts exactly on the music, ruins it.

  • alcohol and cigs are certainly bad for yoour body, but so good for the soul.

  • Amazing video and amazing honesty. Such a man

  • Another mental illness with yet another victim's group in tow...

  • @CelestialEmbodiment Your comment would be funny if werent for the fact you actually walk around believing this. Thanks for that Dr of Psychology. If only your views werent so moronic you could find a career as a stand up
