Tony and Ridley Scott are always fantastic to listen to. The quality of their films may have varied a touch over the years but their passion is always there for all to see.
I have a question guys. I've noticed the editing is similar in all his films, especially his recent, more experimental ones. I understand he's a director, and a lot of director's edit their own films. Does he edit his own films? Is it someone else? If so, who is it?
What if he had directed Terminator salvation instead of McG? I like McG but I think He takes too many things From Michael Bay, in terms of the way he sets up scenes.
Tony Scott is a moron. It's funny that such an old guy seems to have such a severe case of ADD. and he talks about incorporating the "real" world into his films... HA! his epileptic shooting & editing style makes it impossible to figure out what the hell you're looking at.
have you seen his BMW short film? if not you should check it out, its called "Beat The Devil" his editing style is VERY innovative, we spent about a week analyzing his work in a film class, using real things (planes, trains, boat, ect.) instead of CGI creates a completely different feel of a film. His "epileptic" shooting style adds to the feel of his movies everything is FAST FAST FAST the quicker the cuts and more all over the shots the faster the feeling of the movie.
One thing i think he did which was absolutely perfect and just made the movie so good, (there were many things but i wish to mention this) The movie seemed fast paced and very exciting, when in reality it was two guys talking over the radio most of the movie. the range of camera angles and the dialogue coupled with the genius of tony scott made this movie into what i think will be a Diamond in the rough that will stand the times
@hanniballecter3 They both suck, I watched The Taking of Pahlem 123 and Unstoppable and felt smarter than the both the movies. Tony's style, 360 degree coverage of people sitting still at a mics talking. Big maps of trails for railed transportation marked with little colored light bulbs to create an illusion that anybody knows wtf they're talking about. Random cop car roll over. Finally, there is no such thing as competance in Scott's universe.
@jjelrod1111 yeah Michael Mann has always been good, but since I made that comment about Tony Scott 2 years ago, he's definitely not as good as he was when he made films like Top Gun and True Romance among other things. Either way, they're both still superior to Michael Bay.
@hanniballecter3 true.. i hope they both continue to make films for decades..have u seen manhunter by Michael Mann? its one to check out 4 sure... cheers,
Wrong. Tony Scott actually knows how to tell a story on screen and can direct his cast to give good performances and can add a dramatic element within the action. Micheal Bay cant direct a cast no matter who he works with and hes worked with talent like WillSmith, Ewan McGreggor, and Ben Affleck. Micheal Bays movies are all action no substance. i still enjoy them
Correct however I'm talking about his visual style. For instance their films seem to be filmed either at sunrise or sunset and not about the substance of the films themselves.
he was good but now hes gone to far to remake the warriors its just all wrong

What I find slightly strange is that Tony is seven years younger than Ridley, and looks older. Weird.

Tony Scott will always be superior to Michael (not "Micheal") Bay in every way.
Hands down.
