I've seen this movie and even though cooler is a lot more powerful then his brother all Goku had to do was go super saiyan and whoops his ass in 2 minutes end of movie but instead the whole was movie basically Goku holding back until the last few minutes as if he was actually getting stomped by cooler now I know this was to make the fight last longer but why insult the fans like that we all know Goku could have ended the fight at the beginning

Cooler in his 3rd form is weaker than Frieza's 100% but when he progresses into his 4th form he is stronger. "Frieza was always trying to beat me and he definately had the edge." But then explains he found a new form. SS Goku was pushed back by Cooler's Supernouva. SS Trunks easily picked up Mecha-Frieza's with one hand. (Mech-Frieza even stronger than his organic form) At this point SS Goku is stronger than SS Trunks. There's your proof that Cooler is stronger than Frieza in his new form.

Truth is Trunks was hardened in his fight with the future androids and Goku was stonger due to recovering from Namek AND training on Yardrat. Both of them are light years from any of the Cold family members now. But it seemed Goku was stronger b/c of how he handled Trunks.

Goku's clear lack of mastery of the super saiyan form makes one believe that it may not be placed after trunks has killed the Cold family, but rather in a non canon timeline where goku shows up on earth right after his fight with frieza, without trunks in the picture. The movies do say that they are non canon and that they dont fit into the shows timelines, after all.
