There's a trick that you can do that will make getting by the Tentacle monster far easier:

When you first enter the small room where the security guard who runs toward the Tentacle monster is, immediately run past the security guard and drop from level to level to the lowest level as fast as you can -- while the Tentacle monster is attacking the security guard.

That allows you to very quickly and easily get by the Tentacle monster at least the first time.

Half-life ran on a less advanced physics engine, I can't remember what it was called but Half-life 2 ran on an engine called the source engine which is much more advanced and realistic so they decided to remake the original Half-life through the use of the source engine.

I had a crappy Pentium120 with 8MB Ram and NO 3d-accelerator. But i wanted to play this game! It run with about 10 FPS in software mode and i managed to get to the level where you first time meet soldiers. Later i bought a Monster 3D2 3dfx accelerator, but the better version with 12mb. Then the game was really awesome :D
