In this particular number, Amir Bai has a better throw and sounds more soulful, with all due respect to Shamshad Begum, whose version is a great one too. Perhaps Shamshad was very young in 1953.
@010904050 i totally agree with you, though shamshad is a fantastic singer in her own right, but this particular song is sung to absolute perfection by amirbai...it can not
be matched. true that there is a unique pathos in her voice and listening to this song is an immense joy for me. thanks for uploading!
wow! what an utterly beautiful song....hearing the full song for the first time. i only vaguely remember its title from my early childhood. just amazingly lovely! thanks so much for sharing.....god bless your soul.
This is a surprise to me like others who have expressed here. Perhaps recorded in two voices seperately by the same music director to know public reaction ?
Sorry i didn't listen this song in Ameer Bai's voice actually I was a young boy when it was a great hit and I bought the record after watching the movie and the singer was Shamshad Begum. thanks for correcting my mistake
Dear gentle people, re-mixes are not new! During the'50s EMI India/HMV, hit upon the "brilliant" idea of doing re-mixes of popular songs to squeeze out extra revenues! This is one example of this marketing madness. A total of about 30 songs were re-mixed by artistes such as Talat Mahmood, Geeta Dutt and Hemant Kumar etc. These re-mixed songs were released on the lower-priced TWIN label compared to the expensive HMV label.
Amirbai Karnataki (ca 1906 - March 3, 1965) was a famous actress/singer and playback singer of the early Hindi cinema and was famous as Kannada Kokila. Mahatma Gandhi was an ardent fan of her song Vaishnav Jan To.
Data given by " aapindi" is correct. This song is also recorded with Shamshad Begam voice which we used here in VivdhBharathi and Music is not by Naushad Ali - Arani Apparao-HydA.P.
A rare and beautiful song indeed. But the music director is Naushad and not Nashad (who was a different music director who gave music in many films like Baradari).
The song definitely sounds sweeter in Amirbai's voice, though SB is also sweet. It has greater pathos too. Never heard this before. SB is certainly creating her own jadoo as Mirzaji suggests. Thanks, Asad.
I heard this song in amirbhai,s voice , for the first time. Is this song included in the original movie sound track in her voice or in Shamshad's voice?
Beautiful. Heard after long time. This draws me to radio broadcast days. Thanks.

Shamshad and Amir Bai both have sung this song superbly ,inclusion of Shamshad 's version in the film does not import that she has edge over Amirbai,
moidulhassan1 8 months ago
Technically Amir Bai is better than shamshad begum.Shamshad sung very good but the grip and command of amir bai is better.

@Muneeb58 indeed.i agree with u;-)

This version by Amirbai is also superb ; however , SHAMSHAD's version has a great
deal of P O W E R and a NATURAL FORCE which goes a long way to lend a haunt
and a lasting S T R I K E at the HEARING AND RECEIVING END of the LISTENER.

This song is sung by Shamshad Begum and not Amir Bai Karnatiki. The film by Nakhshab jarchavi had Ashok Kumar and Nadira in leading roles.
