  • Great video, works fine for me, despite all the negative reactions. I'm using an Akai VHS and a SOny DCR-TRV120E camcorder.

  • can we turn DVD to Blue ray?

  • The title is misleading. You've just wasted my time.

  • For anyone non-technical person watching this, connecting three devices by cable will not magically make it possible to convert video. This kind of functionality must be supported by software on both the computer and the camcorder. Also, I've never heard of A/V cables being used to transfer video onto a camcorder.

  • Thanks, mine is working but it's coming out black & white, any idea why?

  • or you can just buy a dazzle for $50 and record the VCR footage then burn it to a DVD in about 15 minutes (not including recording time)...

  • hi i tried this it works :)

but the video goes black and white every few minutes.

    why is that happenig?

  • What if i get only the tapes left?

  • u look like brent tate

  • 138 551 videos that is more than justin rebeca black fans

  • Thx but I have 2 wait til I can get a new VCR & Desktop computer in order 2 do this. Wait. Do u have 2 have a Desktop or can u use a Laptop 4 this?

  • yet another shit video from expert village

  • Can SONY handycam DCR-DVD 708E be used to convert VHS to DVD????

  • @mdshoaibhasan please reply fast

  • please reply fast

  • @JRossEntertainment

What kind of digital camcorder did you to convert? And what software did you use on you computer? Did you have the same problem as Arythmael?

  • I just converted a toy story 3 DVD to VHS.

  • Comment removed

  • this is the best conversion program that can do it all watch?v=zaaL3YMzlW8

  • This is B.S. You can have the VHS video coming into your video camera and showing on its display, but as soon as you plug in the firewire cable the display turns blue, and the video capture software on your computer (like Windows' Autoplay feature supplies) starts prompting you to record the content on your camera's tape. And of course, if you don't put a tape in you don't even get the VHS video to display in the first place, which this guy failed to mention.

  • @Arythmael AV -> DV Passthrough required.

  • I've not got video composite output :(

Maybe it's just a US thing? I'm in the UK.

  • @TopTellyFan Scart -> RCA adapters needed here!

  • Just buy a TV tuner Card., VCR can be connected directly to the TV tuner card.

The video clip can be burnt on DVD with out any loss of Video or Audio quality.

  • @OSAMAxxxxxxxxxxyz TV Tuner card? Have a link to one by chance?

  • @spyoung777

    Buy MSI tv tuner card

  • does it work with a usb to computer instead of firewire?!?!?

  • I did exactly as you said. but there is no video on camcorder. does the cam need to be on special seting?

  • @LONDN2 Yes it does. AV>DV (sometimes you find OUT on that as well).

  • can this be used to record xbox gameplay?

  • @MultiTheories idk but ima try it i will get back to u

  • does the camcorder have to be digital? i have an old timey camcorder from the nineties that uses one of those little vhs-c tapes.

  • Comment removed

  • Hmmmm, I just got a new video cam. I am going to try this.

  • how can i make my clips in vhs style?

  • Another way this can be done, inputting the VHS VCR to any stand alone DVD recorder to record old videos on DVD-R (discs need finalizing in these units, RW's may not need finalized) . Once the discs been recorded , they can be extracted to your computer's hard drive by using editing programs such as Cyberlink Power Director.

  • or just connect the VCR to the computer? Skip a hoop to jump through. If the VHS is important enough to convert ya better buy a capture card.

  • its hard when you dont\ have the equipment,,

  • i are n00b, I use a aiptek camera for dat

  • I dun need a camcorder, I use ez cap would do.

  • Hi, could you tell me if it's possible to use a usb-cable from the computer to the camcorder instead of a firewire-cable?

  • Comment removed

  • This video was shot 6 seconds after the guy woke up.

  • Thank God this tip came up!!

  • Thanks a million!

  • hmmm can u use VCR and record from a pc internet vid like a youtube episode of something on vhs tapes? @expertvilliage

  • hmmm can u use VCR and record from a pc internet vid like a youtube episode of something on vhs tapes?

  • Why couldn't you just do the hook up from the VCR directly to your computer(w/o the camcorder)?.

  • @knowledgeispowerfful The camera digitises the video. You can get a bit of software to do this but a camera is a cheaper option if you already have one.

  • @ljmmuk Ok, thanks for sharing. But I thought the computer is digital as well as the camera??

  • You really insult the intellegence of your viewers. What is the point in making a video about how to do something and writing the words over the picture so that we can't see what the person is doing??? Get rid of the words and trust your audience to use their ears!!

  • @ljmmuk Turn off closed captioning.

  • @ckipel Thank you, you are a gentleman. The day I viewed the video the captions were right in the middle of the video (not at the bottom as today). Maybe this was some sort of malfunction but I could not see what was happening.

  • @ljmmuk They're not trying to insult you, you ignorant cunt, they're trying to making their videos useful for deaf people like my brother. Besides, the words aren't covering anything important anyway

  • well this doesnot work for me cause i dont have a camcorder thx for nothing

  • Comment removed

  • @LeeDwarf On my cam i have only A/V out and DC in. I dont think that can work with my cam

  • ok so its all plugged in, what do I do? Press play on the Video Recorder? And what to I do with the camera, turn it on to camera view, or player view? please help

  • i dont get how the cable that i use to put the footage from my cam to the VCR at 51 seconds is able to just send the signal BACK to the camcorder. i don't see anywhere in my camera manual that says that is an INPUT rather than an OUTPUT.

maybe the newer cameras are just able to switch that prong from output to input all of a sudden and you can see whats played on your VCR but i dont get it

  • I should try if this can be done the other way around... from PC to camera, to VCR cassette. VCR cassette are great for physical art project, you can fiddle and alter the magnetic tape.

  • This tut is silly. You have to have a camcorder that has DV out!!! He didn't even say that. If you don't have one those type camcorders you can't do any of this.

  • now i can upload all the old TV shows onto DVDs

    5 stars thanks mate

  • What mode do I put the camcorder into when playback of the VCR happens?

  • thanks very much! this looks good, can't wait to try it. i have a lot of precious stuff on vhs. thanks for sharing.

  • I DONT HAVE SOUND FOR YOU TUBE

  • I would like to say a very big THANK YOU. Very easy to do and converted all home movies onto my iMac then burned onto DVD. Excellent video

  • Yes, the video in on a camcorder is the best feature ever! However, I got some noise signals out of my VHS machine before I did some tuning. Here's how: Search DIY - Video Recorder Repair on YouTube.

  • Thats pretty Awesome! I was just thinking about something like this, then I thought let me see if anyone on YouTube has done it yet.

  • I was going to spend 70 bucks on a stupid converter before viewing this video.

    Thanks for the info!

  • thanks man. I was going to buy a capture card but then i realized that this works better

  • no entendi ni ma#%# NO ABRA UNO EN ESPAÑOL

  • Buy a dazzle or some capture card

get a double ended RCA to the dazzle and output of vhs if it has it (mine does) dazzle connects to computer through usb, record on computer, burn dvd,

    Thats how i did it

Dazzle is 50 bucks at best buy

90 for high quality but 50 is fine with me

  • do you need to use the camcorder ???

  • Thank you for sharing your knowledge, you saved me alot of time and money

  • I have hooked up this way firewire and av cables and I get the dv-in but the camera only records what its seeing not from vcr.

  • same here, have you found a way around this yet?

  • Thanks. I was thinking about buying a VHS DVD recorder. This will save me money and having another device around.

  • My camcorder is different jvc gr d850 it will only recieve and send thru firewire port and obviously my vcr has no firewire port. So Im assuming there is some kind of go-between that has the firewire on one end and rca connections on the other so I can do this.

  • ok that's right, but i don't have firewire port in my pc even not in my laptop and i got usb cable with my dv camcoder when i connect pc doesn't recognised.i think there is only one solution i need a firewire adapter r is there any other solution please help me thanks.

  • is it posible to transfer "DVD" to "VHS"?

  • Yes, Just record when you play the dvd

  • No :(

  • @ryorta wtf y?

  • you might not gonna notice, but a DVD last a minimum of 6 years if not 10 if you can take care of it out of scratches. Compared to a VHS, the tape last longer. I can tell because I used to have an original Lion King in VHS format, and I also had the dvd disc platinum version. Believe me the vhs still work update, the dvd has some scratches plus the image jumps or freezes.

  • can you make DVDs for me for a charge?

  • guys lets face it. the people from expert village dont give any response

  • loved the tip! saves me cash from buying another converter u seless box. thanks

  • thanks man!

  • Thanks! you just saved me money in not having to buy one of those stupid converters that according to reviews they only seem to work half the time.

  • @mtwo3 so I can by the video cammera I want and do this?

  • @spider1g5 It depends on the type of camera that you buy. The one I already owned had the setting where you could change the input/output signal that the guy mentions at the end, but i'm not sure if all video cameras have it. 1:41

  • @mtwo3 I was thinking Big like a panasonic dvx100b

  • Can you also use a TV/VCR combination?

  • What if I don't have an IEEE 1394 connection?

  • You can buy one at a local computer store (BestBuy, and others)

  • i can do same with SONY CCD-TRV68 ???

  • Is it possible to capture with a Panasonic PV-GS 80 camera?

  • what's the connection wire called that links the camcorder to the VCR?

what if you are using an S.video connection?

    signing off frustrated. lol

  • can the canon hv20 do this just incase?

  • You're using a Canon video camera in your video so I was encouraged as I have a Canon Zr500 model. Of course, I discover that the "pass through" feature you're demonstrating is not supported by my camera. This feature has been discontinued. My camera's port is for output only (no longer both input and output).

  • drats that means my canon hv20 cant record from tv or vhs tapes.

  • what camera are you using?

  • its a pansonic tape camera

  • what mode should camera be? i also have Lan in my camera. should show more details,

  • Would I be able to do this with a JVC camcorder? THe moedl I have is GR DVL725U. WOuld it be possible to connect the camcorder to the VCR using an S video/RCA cable?

  • not all camcorders support this

  • thank you

  • am i suppose to put the tape in the vcr?

  • does ne body kno how to do this with a samsung sc-mx20

  • DUDE!!! you made my day, my week, my month...

I actually saw this video some time ago, but I thought my cam couldn't get video IN. I tried on more time, today with your video, didn't work again but I gave it one more try trying other setting and it worked!!! Man, you just saved me $100s and $100s of dollars as I was thinking about buy a new computer to use one of those crappy videop capturing devices. THANKS!!!!

  • how about for laptops the fire friwe card where do u plug that in?

  • i got a sony dcr trv130 ntsc and i got a some questions, it has a 4 pin dv in/out and a 1/4 av OUT...[not av inputs]

should i connect the vcr outs to the camera av output???

do i need to set anything on the camera menu?

or do i need to set a specific choice on my editing software capture options???

i'm confussed, thanks for your answers...

  • My family's camcorder records on VHS, it is the stone age camcorder, I guess this won't work for me... :(

  • can i connect the camcorder with a USB cable because i don't have the other cable that u said in the video please RB. thank you.

  • yes you can.

  • I would advise not to use USB video capture cards as they require an ENORMOUS amount of computer memory.

The best way is the simplest: Copy from VHS to DVD using a DVD recorder, then use a DVD ripper inside your PC to "rip" the video files.

  • Do you need a blank tape in the mini dv cam to do this..?

  • hi -

can you do this with a digital camera that can record movies?

  • I GOT A BUILT IN VCR WITH MY TV

  • this is brilliant

  • I just use my dazzle to put vhs on to dvd.

  • how do you just get a vcr tape signal to your computer?!

  • it would be cool if you could record it to the vcr from the pc

  • Do you turn the camcorder on? If so to what mode? Thx!

  • which cable do i need to connect my vhs to my computer??

  • Do you plug in the RCA cables to the camcorders, "AV Out" ???

Because my camcorder only has "AV Out"

Do you have to have "AV In"

    Does it still work ?

  • yes it will still work

  • u how from a vhs to the computer no camcorder just vhs to computer i u do what do i need to do that

  • Yes, quite - not ashamed to admit it! A 3 year old can figure out this stuff easier than I could! But yes, five minutes after I typed this I realized "DUH of course it is a digital camera." I ended up getting a video capture device to turn the VHS into a file (not a disc) and send 'em to YouTube. So I take NO offense to your comment! I'm an idiot! : )

  • QUESTION: Is the camcorder in this situation a DIGITAL one, like, a MINI DV or what have you?

  • are you stupid

  • tat is a mini DV camcorder

  • AWESOME! now i can record xbox/ playstation footage!

  • You can also convert video tapes to digital & save on your PC through a gadget called EZ Grabber. (Cheap little device for around $25) Upload results depend on the quality of the video tape. Look @ results on my channel from Feb '09. ♣

  • PLZ HELP ME MY SAMSUNG Camcorder (Model NO. : SCL810

  • Can You take previous footage you've already recorded onto your camera then to the comp instead of having to get it while its taping?

  • do you have to have your camcoredder inm to vcr mode

  • I've got that same Logitech 5.1 system...anyways this shit isn't working for me. Maybe because I dont have my camera's firewire hooked up to a computer? Is this impossible to do VHS rips onto just regular MiniDV tapes? Obviously not from what I see...but hey if anyone can enlighten me-sweet

  • Firewire is USB right?

  • No.

  • As someone in the same boat as Xeonnyle here is there some form of external firewire you can buy?

  • Not working for me. How do I capture the VHS tape onto the camcorder? All cables are hooked up correctly but the footage will not record onto the camcorder.

  • my digital camera doesnt have A/V IN, it only has A/V Out and I hook it up correctly and nothing appears on the view screen...Hmmm

  • Thanks man! I've been struggling long on how to do this but now I finally understand. Thanks a lot ;) Merry christmas btw :D

  • grate advise but the video camera it should be in and out right ?

  • Wow I just got a stupid device to do this...why didn't I think of this...ha ha... If this works YOUR GREAT! I'll be returning my christmas gift...a video converter

  • This video gets my nomination for funniest suggestion of the year. Convert VHS to DVD hehehe.

  • You've already said this exact sentance on multiple VHS to DVD video's on youtube. Stop being lame.

Why would you be watching these video's if you had no interest in the subject anyways.

  • great vid helped me greatly

  • hey man plz help me out wiv this which cables do i need if i just want to connect pc wiv my vcr.

  • Thank you so very much ...
