  • Smooth!!!!

  • Best sound in the whole world :-D

  • More smoke, please

  • sounds like a car starting

  • That's the sound that makes the hair on your arms stand up!

    Sweeeet!

  • passionnant !!

  • These locomotives feature on the Trainz simulator pulling coal trains I quite like the explore route option this lets me run the train at 65 mph with 3 of these diesels

  • i wont how big the damn battery is O_o

  • Sounds Similar to when you start a Bus With the Cat Engines in it :)

  • NOw this brings back memories of when I Was away at Castleton State I had the pleasure of riding in the cab of one of these bad boys.

  • I like the supercharged ( root blower) engine types of EMD GM locomotives. İn Turkiye , there are DE 22000 locomotives , the same sound of this locomotive in the video. I don't like the GT type engines ( GT22 , GT 26 , etc) , the turbocharged ones...

  • @Polybun IT'S ABOUT THE SOUND SHITHEAD!!!!

  • @trainman308 i would really like to see a video inside one of these beasts engine compartments and cabs i love trains.

  • @94civiclxgrey I have just posted a video response to this vid, for what you are describing. Hope it helps.

  • Ahh..the EMD GP-38-2...great engine....!

  • fired right up.

  • yea if the monster is comming out of your closeth :P nice sound btw

  • Is it so difficult to put a "start" command in the cabin ?

Reminds me the Model T Ford handle.

  • nice, i have a video of the same engine starting up, go check it out

  • you legends have must have given us the same motors, ours sound the same!!! There v16 super charged gm motors aren't they? From aussie on the piss lol.

  • Nah. This model is only roots blown. It isn't turbocharged. The V16 Turbo is the EMD 645E3, introduced in 1965. ;)

  • sweet sound

  • beautiful diesel sound

  • this is movie is the best. good. i like. i loved.

i have movies in the trains in de Brazil. see.

  • Man this thing has character. I love the howl at 2:24

  • man i love trains :)

  • do they have starters like cars

  • Yes they have electric starters, but it's not like a car. on the back of a car engine, there is a gearbox or transmission. On a locomotive, there is a GIANT alternater or generator, which doubles up as the starter.

  • Actually, many locomotives (such as this one) do have car-like starters, with a starter ring. It's the older EMD units with DC generators that commonly use the main generator to start.

  • Nothin' beats the sound of an EMD!!!! I wish we had those bad boys at my tech school!

  • Wow! That sounds like an enormous creature wakin up from a deep sleep! that machine has a soul!

  • @390052Knight The steam-heads would disagree with you. Only steam locomotives have souls according to them.

  • i know this locomotive very well, got a lot of character

  • The sound of the turbocharged version of the EMD 16-645 engine is far better than the non turbocharged version

  • Some people might disagree with you there... The turbo engines are deeper, but non-turbo engines have a more vocal exhaust. I like both.

  • in msts in idle thats what these sound like

  • agreed

    exactly the same idle

not sure bout above it though

  • see, you can hear the pistons

  • More like the valve lifters.

  • i love the GP-38 thay sound great!!! dose anybody have the lionel CP GP-38,its sounds great to...

  • ho scale bnsf dcc

  • Wow, that sounds so awesome. Wish I was there. Those big diesels have the coolest sound. :3

  • Sounds absolutely wicked !

Can't wait till i hear bout my train drivers application here in nz :D

  • no offence but these have a scary sound to them

    lol

i wouldnt want to drive one of these

  • Do they?

They sound almost tame compared to our workhorses ova here (UK)!

  • you should hear and see an ALCO (american locomotice company ) made Deisel locomotice start, sounds like a lot of old Muscle cars starting and lots of smoke!

  • Important tip. Do not park your car near an ALCO when you are firing it up.

  • Comment removed

  • They tend to spray oil droplets everywhere. SOmetimes during starting, sometimes just idleing. With certain units your car can end up looking like a leapord when you come out for lunch.

There was a time though that I preferred a good running Alco over a similar vintage/horsepower EMD.

  • Thanks. Go away Alco's... get away from my Ferrarri. LOL!!!

  • lolz

  • @s172mch how is this scary i would love to drive one

  • very cool

    sounds great
