  • Dont you still have to do finger pricks with a cgm? I dont think it is right to put your kid through this. If you want to fight the insurance co for a cgm ,that is this fine and good luck to you but dont put your child thru this extra emotional stress on top of dealing w./ t1 . My son is t1 @ 13 and I want him to enjoy being a kid.

  • @dejahthoris Yes you have to calibrate the machine every 12 hours with a finger stick. A cbgm is very useful for keeping an eye on trends. It checks a sample very 5 min. You verify the reading with a finger stick before adjusting insulin. It is a very useful tool and has alarms for high and low blood sugars so you can take action before it gets out of control. It is bullshit that the insurance won’t cover it. If making this video helps get him one I say awesome keep it up.

  • This is sad that the health of our children comes down to insurance companies deciding who gets CGMs and who doesn't. If you are insulin dependant than it should be your choice. I am 61 yrs old and diabetic fighting with my insurance also to get a insulin pump. I have been on insulin for 20 yrs and if the new technology can help this child to have a better life and not have the complications that I and others face later in life then it shouldn't be a fight to get it.

  • I think democrats should use republican tactics. How about if we start calling insurance company CEO's murderers and accuse of them of trying to kill off the poor and the working class!!!

    Modern Eugenics!

the sad thing is that it would be more true than their ridiculous allegations of death panels.

  • Good luck. I hope you get a CGM covered. We are battling with BCBS of Michigan to cover one for our 3-year-old. They are so cold and uncaring. We've sent them letters from the endo, medical records, personal testimony, etc. We need to all keep fighting for this coverage! It's unbelievable that it's so difficult, but it is so important!

  • My son is also 10 years old! We battled for 2 years with the insurance coverage Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA, and they finally broadly changed their coverage to cover it. I hope you got this covered or will soon. Krista

  • BTW! I have a continuous glucose moniter sensors from Medtronic, and they are wonderful.I recommend for you to get a new insurance company. If you call any insurance company you are interested in, ask about their policies and ask if they cover medtronic. The code number(they'll ask for) is A9276. GOOD LUCK

  • I know its quite a battle...

Insurence companies are complete s that could care less.

    Keep fighting!

  • this is fucking insane, how could an insurance company NOT pay for this? ive been diabetic for 20 years, and my insurance company after 18 years of coverage decided to stop paying for my insulin.

  • LOL. even in my country (iceland) they give the insulin pumps for free.

  • Same

  • That is crazy!

  • I too was diagnosed on Dec. 23 1985 and I was 13 years old so I know how you feel. There will probably be many cures but we will never see them cause diabetes is over $100 billion dollar a year income for the pharmaceuticals. You will have to get to a third world country to get a cure that is not regulated by big corporations. Hang in there though someday someone will leak out a cure that they can't defend.

  • I too want this for my son. He has been a diabetic for 12 years now. I know of a girl that has just got one of these CGM's and the family now has to figure out how to pay for it each month. I think it will be just a matter of time. For us with small children it seems like a life time but it is really happening very quickly. I was told 10years agomy soncould not have the insulin pump until he was an adult. He has been on one for 4 years now. Hang in there. Give of your time and stories to JDRF!

  • the cozmo deltec pump is making one soon

  • can you provide me a website for information on CBGM?

  • This disease is a pharmaceutical companies dream. They cash in big time.

Good luck kid. I have had type 1 for over 20 years. Never give up. Keep fighting, if you aim for nothing, you'll hit your target everytime.
