How is a normal day in the life of a flight attendant

I have a few friends who are flight attendants on Qantas (Aussie airline). They say how tiring the job can be. You get lots of time off but...you need it to recover. When they fly Bankok/Singapore then only London, you can be away for two weeks at a time...going back and forth. Intellectually the job is pretty straightforward though with free flights!

Do you mean to tell me that FA's clean the toilets? I don't think I want someone both serving me food and drinks in a germ rich environment like an airplane AND cleaning the toilets too. Besides that is demeaning. Are they FA's or janitors! WHO would want a job like that? I am a travel addict but, the way I see FA's treated these days is sad.

I spent five years of my life as a flight attendant for Northwest. It really isn't that glamorous and the pay is lousy. Much better to get a bachelors degree and make $90gs. I certainly couldn't live on the pay, had to wait table at Red Lobster simply to make ends meet. After five years 911 happened and I was placed back on reserve, walked off the job and never looked back. No regrets!

@NaggarIndia I must admit to missing the cheap to free airfare. Spend a fortune on Delta every year. Still love traveling, have discovered cruising and fell in love. I got a chance to do a lot of Europe, Asia, etc at Northwest but mostly just flew lead on DC9s domestically. Exotic layovers like Omaha, Des Moines, and Flint MI! Oh the glamour!

@alwayson09 Well, thank you then. I REALLY miss NorthWest :( You guys were my favorite airline for many, many years. I know it is a hard job with WAY too low of pay but, some airlines did get it right...well, at least they used to. I always appreciated the service I got from NW...not so much the same at all since Delta took over. It's bad enough I am about to give up all my airmiles just so I don't have to fly Delta anymore.

been a cabin crew member; keeping busy, staying focus, communicating and attending to customers extensively, it look's highly effective and challenging. your just on the move all the time having to look after a plane load of passengers within the duration of the whole flight. plus handle the negativeness of annoying passengers. that's alot that a flight attendant has to do and put up with. anyway, i'm going to give it a go cos my mother did. :)

We train hard, we only get paid for the hours up in the air, not when the plane is on the ground, we sit on reserve for months, even years. U could never have the strength to be away from home for so long, or the courage of willingness to risk your life for others. Not all flight attendants are gay, im a female and i'm straight! my egyptair policy isn't cleaning the lav or or SECURITY check..we have a security member who check the whole aircraft...also we have cabin apperance members before and after the flight to clean the lav and the whole cabin !!

Hats off to all Heroic Flight Attendants!! Since the death of 33 flight attendants from the tragic event of 9/11, they deserve all the honor and respect we can give them. Those passing judgement to this video, will quickly have a change of heart when they find themselves scrambling in panic if they are on an a distressed plane. There is a reason for everything in this video. Nowadays, careful attentiveness to their instructions by the traveling public is imperative for the sake of safety.
