To the community of Kerang, I will never forget that warm cup of tea placed in my hands ..the hand on my shoulder a warm quiet place to sit. The care and love given ..Thankyou xxoo
Nice little clip - I went ot the crash as a member of the CFA. I am actualy in one of the photos. My Nissan Patrol is parked on the north side of the crossing.
It makes me so sad, my friend was lost in the accident, I dont know any of the other victims but I knew Danielle (and Chantal)..and I know they were two beautiful little girls.
Danielle was one of my closest friends and I miss her everyday.
I cried when I saw this.
RIP the meredith girls's.
Love you all. And I will never forget you Danielle.
The train was heading from Swan Hill through Kerang and on to Melb. At a crossing before arriving at the Kerang Station the train was hit by a truck that ploughed into the side of it...he tried to stop but it was too late. The truck driver survived and in June 2009 he was acquitted of charges. I have travelled over this crossing hundreds of times over a period of 30 years and I just don't understand how this tragedy could have occurred.
I dont know who he was, but I think he is still alive, and they are still trialling him... (Not sure on this...)
And he sped up because he thought he could beat the train... he was going really bloody fast at the time... Realising it was too close, he hit the brakes *According to him* and didnt quite stop in time, hitting the side of the train.. :(
What annoys me is that when a veichle/train collision occurs, It's always the driver's fault for not slowing down, yet the blame gets put on the railway infrastructure. Since the kerang disaster, that crossing has been fitted with boom gates, rumble strips, flashing warning signs and theyve even changed the speed limit to 80kph around the crossing - all this for something that was THE DRIVERS - NOT THE INFRASTRUCTURES - fault

the driver was christian scholl
he got acquitted on all counts, is a free man, without even a license suspension
the defence claimed the crossing was to blame

The Truck should stop at the Railway Crossing when the red lights are on if it doesn't have gates on.

Was the train hit by the truck, or did the train hit the truck?
Who was the truck driver?
Killed?
In prison?
How, with crossing signals (o)-(o) and wide open area, does one manage a collision with a train?

The truck hit the middle carraige of the v-line.
