This song is not a romantic love song, it is a remake of a rod stewart song, it is about a "foster child," who is getting adopted, who has been through rough times and doesn't know trust anyone, "when it comes to being lucky he is curse....try and love again" The kid is going to give the new adoption parents a try. It is a beautiful song, yes, this is a fact,e Rod wrote the lyrics about that type of "love", and I love Sheryl's remake, great song, I worked with a lot of foster kids teaching, love

It is clearly a romantic love song... the original, by Cat Stevens, says "when it comes to being lucky SHE's cursed, when it comes to loving me SHE's worse, but when it comes to being loved SHE'S first.. that's how I know, the first cut is the deepest." (This version of the song has been altered a bit). Stevens wrote it at age 18 (and he wasn't a foster child) so it seems most logical to assume it's about a first love.
