  • id say i would have to be over half the views on this song so fucking great

  • i have so much respect for this man

  • dis song is a classic story, when i first heard it in a small fishing village on irelands south east coast i was moved by its simplisity... i asked the singer for where he d heard it and its name and was shocked to here it was an austrailian song.its one of the best ballads i ve ever heard and iv began learning the song

  • I think John is the only singer that sings with an Aussie Accent! - Have you heard him sing "The Drovers Boy"?

  • ONE OF THE MOST TRUE BLUE AUSSIE AND REAL SONGS I'VE HEARD

  • Best song ever

  • BLOODY AMAZING

  • Go Ausssie's never stop...

  • Go Ausssie's never stop...

  • The best version of this great song by Australia's best Balladeer

  • Great song. Christy Moore did a very good version of this,

  • Im Living This Song Right Now.

  • I was introduced to this song whilst on the road from Perth up the west coast on a trip with my Aussie family...and now it holds more memories than I can think of in one go...John Williamson is the Truest Bluest heartfelt singer I know of :) Good on ya Mate

  • classic australiana!!

  • Thank you for this wonderful video clip.

John Williamson is not just a musician. He is a poet. I love him. I'm not a real appreciator of country music. However, John Williamson is at the top. He kicks American country music by far. He sings about the country. He doesn't sing depressing songs about love that has gone bad. He sings about love and our wonderful country. I love him. He is great.

  • Cant believe this song any version makes me cry for some reason, here to true music with a story behind it

  • True legend mate

  • ONE OF BEST SONGS WRITTEN BY HUGH MCDONALD

  • i had this playin on my mp3 player as i was shutting the oldest sugar mill in aus down and i tell ya it still had the same meaning because what he is signing about is what made the 139 year old mill down and what hurt the most was that my two hands done the dirty work

  • fuckin aussie classic

  • Its really nice, I like it.

  • wow! great version.

  • What is this song about?

    It is very nice.

  • this is one of the best from john w--only he sings this with feeling and very description like you are there --thx for making this treasure video--best version

  • This song is my favourite song of all time, along side Crocadile Roll with Pixie. Keep up the good work John! This guy is amazing, 10x beter live in concert, I've been to 3 of his concerts, absolutely fantastic! if you like his albums, see him in concert! Best experience you'll ever have!

  • Great song I remember listening to all these bush ballads on a trip from Barunga NT to Longreach QLD and then back to The Alice thru Boulia.

Passed thru the channel country absolutely great . . .

  • @Witiyana His music is awsome to listen to on 'road trips' keeps you in the mood. :)

  • No I had not viewed Connie Cullen's version of the song. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.Connie does an excellent job considering the noise and distractions of an Irish Pub.Those Irish sure know a good folk song when they hear one.....

  • @SuperSydneysider THANK YOU SUPERSYDNEYSIDER FOR YOUR ENCOUIRAGEING KIND APRAISAL OF MY REDITION OF THIS GREAT SONG...CONN

  • brings a tear to the eye to think that this is all disapearing.

  • awesome music i just love listening to it's.

  • @akech1 have a listen to the version connie cullen does .......!

  • nice, i still have no desire or nostalgia for that kind of life.

  • Good version. The composers's version is the best (Hugh MacDonald.) however.

  • @SuperSydneysider have you the new version of this song by a guy called connie cullen ?...

  • Yeah. Definitly reminds me of an australian version of Johnny Cash.

  • You know Brendan Walmsley also does an amazing version of this song, i saw him do it live a few times, very good.

  • nothing like the Red Gum song but still tells the story

  • Nice Version - really nice but I can't say that it has the emotional impact of the redgum version - I find the redgum version somewhat haunting, I don't know what it is but it is a very deep song.

  • @josephinethedog Hey Joe look at connie cullen's version

  • john wlliamson i find is more of a folk, story type person very believable and real as far as the australian image goes he writes and sings what is real and relivent and that i rate but john schuman redgum top points for writing song john top points for expressing it shaun edmunds mangrove mt nsw

  • I haven't heard the original either, but the way John sings is great enough for me! John Williamson rules! He's truly a fairdinkum true blue Aussie! I also like 'Rip Rip Wood chip', 'Mallee Boy', 'True Blue', and of course... Home Among the Gumtrees! =D =D =D I love all the rest as well.

  • @PianoGirl4eva have a look/listne to connie cullen singing and tell me what u think

  • I rekcon John does it great

  • redgum may of wrote and sang it and tribute to a great band but you cant dispute this song wasnt written for williamson to sing great job PS SCHUMAN said in caught in the act album i met an old drover from the diamantinas on train ride and wrote this song about him,i would of love to shook the old mates hand just to meet him and listen to his life stories what an adventure on its own shaun mangrove mt nsw australia

  • The Dimantina Drover wasn't written by Schuman, it was written by the other redgum vocalist, you can hear on the album it's clearly not Schuman talking

  • Ill truuly miss him

  • awsome mate aussie for life!

  • great song but The Unwanted's version is alot better in my opinion, its a lot more powerful.

  • @MrJingleBob tell me what u think of the connie cullen version?

  • @Mr9111950 i had not heard it but i listened now and its really great and soulful, shame about the distractions of the pub noise behind.

  • @MrJingleBob I PLAYED THIS GREAT SONG IN A MUSIC PUB AND AND A FRIEND RECORDED IT ON HIS PHONE...NEXT THING I KNOW IS ITS ON U-TUBE .....I NEEDED TO GET AN INDEPENDENT VIEW OF MY VERSION WHICH IS QUICKER THAN THE ORIGINAL....THANKS AGAIN MRJINGLEBOB...CONN

  • Red Gum sung the original...

  • who did the original?

  • I've never heard the original but can't imagine it could better JW's version - tis a beaut!

Lovely, evocative slideshow too - Great Mate :)

  • Lovely video. Just heard this song as an instrumental. Had to check it out.

    Beautiful song.

  • I just love this song. Haunting. John Williamson sure knows how to tell the story.

  • i can honestly say thats the only slideshow that goes well with the soundtrack. That drover leaning on the tree towards the end could've written this song.

  • reminds me of those younger jamming days,,,, loved this song,,,,

  • John Williamson is truly Aussie.

    This is a beautiful cover.

  • Love this song. Thanks for posting it.

  • how i miss this song, tnx to my sister.

  • all john songs have meaning. love it

  • its a redgum song

  • yep[ and its still a beauty

  • Great song/ Great voice. Thanks Hugh and John.

  • Why cant we all think like he sings, John Williamson is truely poetic with how he expresses himself in his music. Yeah he didnt write this one but he sure lay it down like the legend he is.

Thanks for the post it makes a man think of what j´his missing, dont go anywhere Australia.

  • I always enjoy listening to John Williamson and this song is no exception. The Hugh McDonald/Redgum version is better, but this one is very good.
