GREAT job! This is the best video I've found so far to teach Charleston. I have a question though: do you have to plant your left foot on count 1 or can you keep the feet up in the air and only plant/switch on counts 4 and 8??? Thanks!

I think you only touch the ground when you switch feet, but that's just my personal opinion.

I think before you would start the Charleston you should teach the Varisty Drag first because then you are all loose and ready to dance and you still do a step of the Charleston also.

Great lesson, thank you. Question for you on the starting foot. I recall being taught to start with the right foot back on 1-2 (as a male), you start with the left back. Is this because you are doing the female steps or is my memory totally rusty? :)

That's because I am teaching the charleston in this instance as a solo dance. When dancing solo, it doesn't technically matter which foot you start on- but I have been taught generally to start on my left. When dancing with a partner it becomes important to be on the right foot for leading purposes and continuity (but again, is not always needed, lindy hop has no rules).
