Longtime hawks fan here,but this kid was real deal,more i watched him fight, more i liked his style,..cpl things he had that most hockey fighters don't, & that's flat out fearlessness, great hands in boxing skills,..and could throw either way with great balance. Small yes,..but as we see,..he could beat  most,..and hang with just about anyone. Too bad he wasnt much offensively. Canucks couldda used him against boston, egde her to Mayers til he lost his balance tho.

Win Mayers. He easily landed more punches. If you watch the replay Rypien stumbles at 0:29 and then Mayers' left skate bumps into Rypien's right skate at about 0:31 and he loses his balance. Otherwise Mayers would have kept throwing.

Regarding the punches after Mayers went down, they were to his back and were pillows anyway. Rypien was just letting him know he shouldn't get up, and when Mayers stayed down Rypien lets go and leaves on his own. No loss of respect. Good fight.

Note to Deathnotefan18. Hello, he did win it. He didn't clean his clock like usually cleans the clock of most of his opponents, but he did not at all land any sucker punches. He was throwing punches and when he brought Jamal down to the ice and had him down you can clearly see he stopped punching by his own free will rather than continue to punch away at him like he's some lightweight rag doll, and skated away as a sign of class. Perhaps you're blind towards what class is ?
