@ryanbek96 Thanks for the praise on flute part. I think Ms.Tu, the violinist, played all the violin part only. We didn't (and have no right to) modify any part of the violin part. Maybe it's caused by the bad recording to make the duet became solo with cello accompaniment. We're sorry for that.
@eddieycc No, that's the problem. Put it on max all the way, and it is still very low. Oh well...guess I'll just have to listen for the louder parts. Thanks for the post though...
eddieycc -- like to ask, is the Pi-pa 琵琶 used in place where pizzicato of strings are used ? I am curious to know the gu-zheng (古箏), yang-qin (揚琴) and Pi-pa 琵琶 here. I think the yang-qin is filling the part of the harp in some places.
@yellowlynx There are 2 versions for Chinese orchestra. One is reorganized by Mr. Da-Jian Wu (吳大江) and another is by the original composer Mr. Zhan-Hao He (何占豪). Wu's piece is close to the org. ver. Every sound are mapped to an individual Chinese music instrument but the range is too high for Chinese orchestra. It needs excellent skill to perform it otherwise the sound would be terrible.
Mr He reorganized the notes to adapt Chinese orchestra.
@yellowlynx We lack for brass to provide rich bass in Chinese orchestra. Therefore all the bass part are dispersed to only cello, bass, timpani and bass suona/guan-zi. Also there are so many high-pitched instrments. That's why you can find the differents from the org. ver.
@yellowlynx Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra performs the piece quite often. (with treble erhu / Mr. An-Yuan Huang (黃安源)) Maybe you can attend the concert next time. The record is also available.
From listening to it, I believe they have to rewrite a lot of parts. For example, I don't remember the timpani in the western orchestra version -- it is all by lower strings like cellos or double basses instead of a timpani roll like that. Wonder if any other Chinese orchestra outside Taiwan did this piece (in Chinese instruments of course)?
The use of Chinese instruments (almost) throughout did justice to the piece. The only drawback on Chinese instruments here is that, the bass tends to be thin, so you see they have to put cellos to "thicken" it, but still deploy er-hus, Chinese flutes, Chinese reeds etc. in the higher ranges where possible (e.g. Pi-pa, yang-qin in place of the harp).
Your interpretation was very "Chinese". I can really feel the essence there. Your emotions flowed nicely as well. And you call yourself an amateur! :P
I had finally adjusted the volume and have updated the new video.
Please listen the whole, no cutting version: watch?v=GbMvptcbpUg

Is it just me or is the volume very low??

@nooyawkfun Sorry, the volume is unified for the loud part, therefore you would feel the volume is low.
Please just volume up your speaker and enjoy the music.

Thanks again~~ There is really still numerous issues I need to learn.
You can always find many ACEs of playing Chinese flute. I get a long long distance far from them......

Beautiful yet it is not flautless. Aslo, it is not as poetic. The dress of the violinist is not appropriate. Sorry.

Thanks for the commentary.
We are an amateur chinese orchestra and we'll keep on practice hard to make our music better.
