Had one, had the operation in 2002. I was told the MRI didn't even begin to show how bad the disc was. Pain still bad, but manageable with variety of meds. In fact, anti-depressants release more endorphins down the spine, and those meds really took away a lot of pain. So, for those of you who did the surgery and still have pain, check out the relief found with anti-depressants. I know a lot of people are saying, "Yeah, more pills?" But, when the pain is that bad, you'll do anything!
I'm a 33y/o male and I've been dealing with a herniated disc for well
over two yeasr now. I've been through all sorts of treatments, some help
more than others. I been unable to walk long distances home bound due to the intense pain when i stand up if any one knows any suggestions or been in similar situation let me know
Oh man, having a bulging disc must really hurt. i hope that anyone who has this doesn't have to undergo surgery. i wonder how this type of thing might happen. is it just from bad posture? or can physical stress/trauma cause it? like, if someone were to injure, or get something thrown at that area; would that cause it? either way, if you've got this, i'm sorry and i'll wishing you the best.
i just did this surgery (L5 / S1) last month , and it helps me so much

i'm only 14 and I have one. :/
it's very painful, and honestly there's many different ways you can get it.
me on the other hand, I have no idea how I got mine. guess i'm just extremely, extremely unfortunate. :(
