When the mobile phone rang although it was crushed I told my friend : “Wow, big surprise, the plants are ringing.” Then the revealing moment came: IT WAS THEM F’CKIN’ PLANTS! Dun, dun DUUUUUUN!
This was one of my very rare instant “Fuck you” moments. And I had to sit through this mess in a cinema, not at home with an emergency movie alternative at hand.
I’ve had my share of shitty films, but I’d rather watch Bubba Ho-Tep twenty times in a row than watch this crap again.
Well how else are white people gonna be the first to sail around the world, the first to climb Mount Everest, and the first to set foot on the moon? That same spirit of exploration that might get them killed might just lead them to the greatest discovery yet! Goooo intrepid white people!
@MoonPhase94 Fine by me. I'm too chickenshit to try any of that stuff, but I applaud the people who do and succeed. And yes, I know white people aren't the only explorers. Matthew Henson and Ibn Battuta are two people of color who come to mind.
This movie scared me. It actually did a lot of things right, even though I can understand why plants aren't threatening. They scared me because it wasn't like they had a big mouth and swallowed you whole; it was that they were like parasites, eating you from the inside. Another thing they did right was that sense of hopelessness that permeates through all the characters at the end.
the thing i know they got wrong in this is the whole thing with the plants being inside that girl. the plant was only in eric in the book, not the blonde chick. and you never saw it moving beneath his skin like that.
All the guys that came out with the guns and bows should have instead carried torches, lit the motherf#cking pyramid thing on fire and killed those dumbasses right then and there. The movie would have been over in, like, 20 minutes.
@aquapendulum lol your right. No black guy but there is atoken foreign guy..cant remember think he's russian. He's the outsider and gets the shit end of the stick compared to the rest,
Man this film was dumb. I turned it off last night to where the two girls were down in the ruins and when the one girls with the glasses said "We have to", meaning going deeper into the deep dark hole. I just turned it off right after that. Really fucking stupid...
these guys talk bout white people like a lot well one time in the review 1408 one wen a blak guy says dont go in there the white guy is like stuf it im goingin and then the white guy is fuked
The villager probably worship it as a god or something, considering they coulda easily burned it down centuries ago. These college kids should have realized the villagers were the ones to blame, tied vines to rocks, and chucked them down from the top of the pyramid. At least it would push them back into a wider circumference, making it easier to escape.
I thought the mimicing noise was a bit creepy, especially when they repeat it over and over but other than that, it's like Scary Movie. WHO'S STUPID ENOUGH TO GO TO A TEMPLE THAT'S NOT ON A TOURIST MAP? AND IF A NATIVE SAYS "DON'T GO THERE" DON'T F-EN GO THERE!
this movie is actually good to be honest... and if u have the DVD [which i have] u can see another alternate ending beside amy just running away then the greek suddenly came like 2 minutes later. another ending, the vines suddenly appear under the skin of amy face and her eye fills with blood and she die...
i think the guy who got his legs cut off suffered way to much they the director shoud've killed his character after he got his legs cut off. First he falls down the temple and breaks his back he has no treatment, his legs get torn by like killer roses, legs get cut off,
lmao i love how crafty the plant was haha like if i was any kind of killer, i would wna b that plant lol... missleadin ppl and then creepin them out bt crawlin under their skin! thats hilarious!
I just saw this the first time yesterday and was actually kind of bored at some points. I know I might sound cruel but It was hard for me to feel sorry for any of them. The only one I felt sorry for was that girl who got away. She originally didn't want to go, but her boyfriend kept pushing her. I know she regretted it. Did anyone else find it discusting when he kissed her after she threw up. I would be like "before you kiss me disinfect your mouth.
Oh she had swished some mouthwash. And he gave her a cup of water beforehand too. He was like, for the love of god, rinse. but yeah, it was still gross.
JUST saw this on HBO, and I gotta say I wasn't really scared. More like compelled to find out what happened next.
Like after the chicks went down and saw the plants, I wondered if the guys would be dumb enough to go check it out themselves.
And to be honest, the ending was funny. This chick flat out sprints the fuck away, and not 2 damn minutes later the people they were waiting for show up. Hilarious.
It's what I like to call a "WTF's GOIN ON???" film. Normal people, fucked up setting.
This movie is hysterical...but I'm certain it wasn't supposed to be. This is one of my guilty pleasures because it is such a silly B-type horror movie (and thats being nice). This movie is also one of the most disgusting movies of all time. It's not the disturbing violence like Hostel the makers of the Ruins most certainly go for the yuck-factor.
I hated this movie. I hate any horror movie when the characters make the same damn mistakes over and over again. I also hated the fact that the dumbest person in the whole group is the one who survived.
I forgot which review was the review with Korey talking to Co-host 3000 from like a webcam and Co-Host was at a shop getting fixed? If somebody knows please tell me.
Yeah okay the reviewers obviously have never heard of the book cause first of all they're told that they should go check out the ruins and second of all the natives live in the forest obviously they come quickly the children were keeping watch and warned them. Pretty smart movie and damn gory.
i think it was a good movie...and the whole mimic thing was very cool very demonic, very different. It wasn't bad it had a bit of unrolled ideas...and hee hee, i saw it in CABLE...
1.They were NOT told to stay away from the ruins, the they didn't know there was a danger, until way after they ran on the ruins to take refuge from the natives who shot their freind dead.
2.The vines run over ancient ruins, yes the vines are alive... but controlled by something we are never told..
3.If they burned the ruins they would die in the fire or run off them and get shot dead.
I'm not being a "movie expert guy" but you didn't understand the idea behind this movie at all.
I didn't like this movie. However, it wasn't as bad as some other horror movies that I've seen. I just wish they went deeper, because they had the material and potential to. In the en, it was just another generic horror movie.
Some girls at my school snuck in the theatre to see it and hated it. I'm gonna take they're advice and not see it. It looks to typical Hollywood horror film like. Which is what it is of course. But I like smarter horror movies.
Hmm... well I want to start getting even more acquainted with the horror world, so I guess I can check it out. I can still see there have been better horrors. However this looks above Child's Play, Troll 2, and Manos: The Hands of Fate for example.
yeh same story dum withe kids. walk around in places they shoud ent go even thouth every body tells them not to go there and get killed but it was good to see them get killed
The thing was SUPPOSED to be about the ruins, then it turned into a thing with nothing but those killer plants, which take up 70% of the movie. I really wish they would have gone deeper into the ruins.
I didn't even see the movie, and it sounded so stupid. If there was a creature, then that's a diff story. As for the whole dumb white kids thing. They are 100% right. I'm white, but I know that we are so dumb. We truly will never learn.
I agree. I noticed in every horror movie, white people never listen to signs of danger and just go to the danger. They also fail to realize that there can BE ANYTHING SUPERNATURAL. BUT no instead of believing it they just say that it is impossible and panic. I agree that movies need white people to happen.
Rosemary's Baby, The Sentinel, The Omen, and so forth. You always get the priest, the holy water, and the excorcism rites. Funny, since it's so far from Biblical Christianity.
Really? All three are from the 70s, but pretty decent. The Omen was remade a few years ago with Julia Styles that wasn't as good as the original for sheer creepiness. There's also a fan video here of The Sentinel I found last night that took some of the best scenes and put them to Bach. I recommend that one.
i think that the plot was pretty good and the acting was awesome specially from laura ramsey (the one with the vine in her head) and yes it was gorey which is good but i think im more of a shock kinda guy like its better if your jumping every 5 seconds instead of blowin' chuncks.
Jeff sacrifices himself as a decoy so Amy can escape the ruins and reach the jeep. She drives off, and just when you thought she was safe, we see the vines crawling under her skin.
If you really don't want to make someone go somewhere in a hororr film, your best bet is to put up a big sighn saying, "Free parking and movies plus tonight's lottery numbers right this way!"
LOL in all these damn horror movies it's a bunch of adventurous white kids who get their asses killed...it's a funny cliche for horror flicks people, chill
1:45 ruined the film for me thanks. All i got were jokes about taxi drivers in the jungle and a stupid remark about exploring ruins which apparently no one has seen before and lived to tell about it.

The thing was SUPPOSED to be about the ruins, then it turned into a thing with nothing but those killer plants, which take up 70% of the movie. I really wish they would have gone deeper into the ruins.

in the words of the great Paul Mooney, "White people are just too damn nosy."

Lmao one of the worst movies ever.
1337pudding 3 years ago
I liked this movie.
thanhbites 3 years ago 2
I didn't even see the movie, and it sounded so stupid. If there was a creature, then that's a diff story. As for the whole dumb white kids thing. They are 100% right. I'm white, but I know that we are so dumb. We truly will never learn.
krylancelotheoracle 3 years ago
I agree. I noticed in every horror movie, white people never listen to signs of danger and just go to the danger. They also fail to realize that there can BE ANYTHING SUPERNATURAL. BUT no instead of believing it they just say that it is impossible and panic. I agree that movies need white people to happen.

Do you ever notice that any time there's religion involved, it always assumes that Catholicism is correct?
moparmonster1965 3 years ago
hmm.. i've never seen a horror movie in which religions is involved.
Raraus 3 years ago
Really? How about the Exorcist, Amityville Horror, or Demon Knight?
moparmonster1965 3 years ago
other than the exorcist and amityville. I've seen other. XD oh yeah the exorcist its been a while since i've seen it so that's why
Raraus 3 years ago
Rosemary's Baby, The Sentinel, The Omen, and so forth. You always get the priest, the holy water, and the excorcism rites. Funny, since it's so far from Biblical Christianity.
moparmonster1965 3 years ago
hmm. i've only seen the omen. <.< the rest i haven't heard of. yeah its pretty funny.
Raraus 3 years ago
Really? All three are from the 70s, but pretty decent. The Omen was remade a few years ago with Julia Styles that wasn't as good as the original for sheer creepiness. There's also a fan video here of The Sentinel I found last night that took some of the best scenes and put them to Bach. I recommend that one.
moparmonster1965 3 years ago
really? i already know bout the omen remake.
Raraus 3 years ago
If you get to see the movies, let me know what you think.
moparmonster1965 3 years ago
i probably wouldn't because i don't have a vcr.

ehh i liked when they broke the guys legs it was so fucking freakin how calm the black haired guy was
drumkid65 3 years ago
i think that the plot was pretty good and the acting was awesome specially from laura ramsey (the one with the vine in her head) and yes it was gorey which is good but i think im more of a shock kinda guy like its better if your jumping every 5 seconds instead of blowin' chuncks.
da1andonlycodfish 3 years ago
that movie was retarted
the guys that made this are totaly aganst weed
the plants are killer pot plants
this movie was probably made by the same idiots that make all those damn anti-weed ads on the tv screen
dont get me wrong i dont like weed or drugs i think its just a stupid waste of money but ya

Jeff sacrifices himself as a decoy so Amy can escape the ruins and reach the jeep. She drives off, and just when you thought she was safe, we see the vines crawling under her skin.
userios 3 years ago
This was okay. The blonde chick was HOT and showed her tits at the start.
PabasamDee 3 years ago
I liked THE RUINS
LightsCameraAaron 3 years ago
Because it was very gory. The gore was great. The novel was 10% better.
LightsCameraAaron 3 years ago
it wasnt even all that gore
patrickfuckingdavis 3 years ago
I laughed... but it's a book, you shouldn't critize the movie story, but the novel story

If you really don't want to make someone go somewhere in a hororr film, your best bet is to put up a big sighn saying, "Free parking and movies plus tonight's lottery numbers right this way!"
Gunganbuster 3 years ago 2
the film is really great.. a different kind of film not always the same 10/10 :)
sercolicious12 3 years ago 2
LOL in all these damn horror movies it's a bunch of adventurous white kids who get their asses killed...it's a funny cliche for horror flicks people, chill
dunnowy123 3 years ago 3
OMG, This movie is bullshit!! just like they said, it was stupid
rtw758 3 years ago 2
1:45 ruined the film for me thanks. All i got were jokes about taxi drivers in the jungle and a stupid remark about exploring ruins which apparently no one has seen before and lived to tell about it.
