Despite the title, the Big Idea is secondary to the plot.

A mild-mannered doofus becoming the most evil man alive due to glitchy technology recalls the KIM POSSIBLE ep "Bad Boy".

I think not showing Lawrence's evil leer was a ref either to Indiana Jones' RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARC or the briefcase in PULP FICTION. We never saw the interior of either, only a sinister glow from within and folks' reactions (amazement, horror, death).
