Hooray! Plz do...Who is playing and where did you get the recording? Ullen should release it before too long as he finishes recording the cycle....k bye
I think Sorabji is quite the opposite of Ravel but in the same vein of, may I say, metaphysical music. However, Ravel's music brings healing while Sorabji's music just seems to make you more aware of your wounds and imperfections.
John11inch, you say: "Later on I'll be uploading Sorabji's Solo Piano Concerto if enough people find this sufficiently interesting"... I am very interested, please upload!!! thank you for posting this.. just love it!. So hard piano pieces to play them by the way...
After I buy my piano i will learn this piece...atleast i will try...i have alot of sorabjis sheet music including this...though it is hand written by sorabji himself...i think i willbe able to read and play...the best is the sheet music of opus clav. 254 pages...bhaaa
Sorabji is like Rock star(or rather Hard Metal Rock star) of classical music. Not everybody understands it... I do actually understand some of his music...
That's the handwritten version by Charles Hopkins, not Sorabji (thank god, since his notation is hard as shit to read). I think Jonathan Powell also prepared a typeset edition. I recently ordered the newly-released 'Sequentia cyclica', which should keep me occupied for a long ass time.
It will also be interesting to see what the reaction to organist Kevin Bowyer's projected performances/recordings of the entire Sorabji organ symphonies will be like!
Although I am not such a fan of Sorabji as my brother, I have a definite liking for the mystical element of Sorabji's works. This, along with the late Charles Hopkins' recording of Gulistan, Hamelin's Sonata No. 1, and Hamelin's/Ullen's/Habermann's performances of Sorabji's Pastiches on Chopin, Bizet and Rimsky-Korsakov are stunning. This is not to mention the almost superhuman and penetrating effort of Ogdon with his OC - another astonishing work.
Don't get me wrong, I do like his music, just not all of it, which would be my opinion for any composer I can think of. I like music by composers who are often associated with Sorabji: Alkan, Medtner, Busoni, Szymanowski etc, as well as Messiaen, Tournemire, Jongen, Marx, Reger - composers who are less frequently heard among classical audiences in Ireland.
J'adore!

Haberman to this day is the only person who seems to be able to put sorabji into an emotional context for me.

Sorabji, a god of past music... simply magnificent and ethereal. His music
touches the highest peaks of expressionism.

Great compostion by Mr. Sorabji! Thanks for uploading. You should do Gulistan as well.

Why? Everyone's heard it a million times.
John11inch 3 years ago
@John11inch Not the millions of youtube searchers: All youtube has to offer is one of Sorabji playing it himself, and it is very low quality.
