Ah! This is such a nice job and shows so much understanding of this airplane that I was going to comment that if you didn't WORK A MODEL SHOP somewhere at some point, you should have. And then leave it at that, hoping you would get the drift. But then I thought better of it and just left it alone altogether. I thank you for the info!
I understand the care in not including specifics. You're a good man and your thoughtfulness shows in this great project. Good luck!
Absolutely fantastic! Beautiful job. A long while back I worked on the only two examples of this airplane that flew and are now languishing in museums. There is one difference I can see from the actual airplane (inconsequential, though, to this scale) and that is the inlets. They don't simply end on a squared angle out of line with the leading edge. The inlets include six independent angles which align precisely with corresponding edges on the airplane. This was done for low RCS issues.
Thanks for the comments. I worked on this program in the wind tunnel model shop at Northrop (Hawthorne) ... so I had to be careful not to include any specific details that I know about that may not be public. While at Northrop I worked on and tested several other alternate inlet designs as well but I am not at liberty to discuss them. This model is based 100% on a 1/72nd scale plastic model, not on any of my own knowledge of the actual design.
@kirkmach32 What can you tell about the YF-23's performances? Like what was its climbing rate, its turning rate, what AoA could it achieve? Could it perform the Cobra maneuver? You know, stuff like that. 'Cause I really wanna understand why it was rejected in the favor of the F-22.
@kirbyroxy I don't believe that. There's no evidence that the YF-23 would've cost more. That's just a bullshit. In reality, bureaucracy and corruption were responsible for the F-22's selection over the YF-23. And the F-22 was the weaker design.
very nice build did it fly ?did u post plans on anny forums or pics ?
