As much as I love Calgary... this extreme temperature/weather variance / swing is not unique to Calgary... here in Southern Ontario and Southern Quebec it can also be extremely cold one day and be really really warm the next... it's just typical Canadian winters .. although it gets much hotter here ...never gets cold in the summer here.... in fact, a couple of days ago it was in the minus teens and tomorrow it's going to be almost 14...

For example, Pincher Creek once went from -19 to +22 in one hour. Ten degree changes in less than an hour are fairly common, but occur during midday, which leaves most people unaware of them.

Honestly, our winters might last for a long time, but they're not the coldest or worst in Canada by far. And yes, it's true. Calgary catches a high percentage of sun compared to many others in the country. It's not the weather that drives me away from this city.

Actually it has never been as cold as -50C here! Not even close. Who told you that? Our winter temperatures can be cold but I have never experienced below -30 (that I can remember). With wind chill it can feel a lot colder but not the temperature itself. Look up average temperatures for calgary and you will be surprised. Ya it can get cold but it is not the arctic :)
In addition, we get chinook winds fairly often and that warms it up a lot. Edmonton is quite a bit colder.

Calgary is still a fairly friendly city. Used to be way better when we were smaller BUT, there has been an explosion of ppl wanting to live here and not all are nice. Don't get me wrong but "some" recent immigrants are only good for complaining and making trouble. They have trouble adapting to out western culture.
It's changed a lot here but still has some of the old west feel but not like 30 years ago. Used to be VERY safe and friendly, but now it is a big city. Too big for me.

Usually pretty dry and sunny and around +25.

yeah we have a thing in calgary called construction its where everyone stops working dew to slush. 1 monthe a go we hade a bad snow fale where every single bus was off i hade to walk home and i lived 2 miles away and a most got hit by a off bus 2 times, calgary is really nice during summer it just doasnt come at the right time, and the recarod for tempetures is -44c and the high i think is 39c

I moved to Calgary from Saskatchewan, so I know about cold, frigid winters. Calgary's winters are nothing. The snow falls, people forget how to drive, but then it melts pretty fast when the chinook moves in. I was surprised by how little the snow actually stays around.

i have driven through Calgary in the Summer and it was hot. However I know the winters are long and bitching frigid. However when we send you a Chinook it warms you up for a short period. We get our warm winter temps. from the Hawaiian Island, we refer to it as the Pineapple Express. In the area of Canada where I live it never really gets that cold in the winter.
i live here. In the summer i felt Like I was gonna diiiiiiieeeeeee !!! It was like 40 degrees celcius (100 ferenhight) . And it turned cold at the beginning of October.

We get our warm winter temps. from the Hawaiian Island, we refer to it as the Pineapple Express. In the area of Canada where I live it never really gets that cold in the winter.

i live here. In the summer i felt Like I was gonna diiiiiiieeeeeee !!! It was like 40 degrees celcius (100 ferenhight) . And it turned cold at the beginning of October.

Doesn't get very cold where Iive in Canada and the south eastern US often record much colder winter temps. than we do here.
