well.. aside from other things like the shots not making sense [seems they arent supposed to] and the transition not making sense [same deal..] i think you need to do more in Post to get the more hollywood look.. but if you are going for an indie look, then its just fine lol.
You really need to try to buy a 35mm adaptor I would recommend a letus or a redrock. Don't buy the cheap stuff, like the jag35, their just not sharp enough.
you wont get it as good, but with good planning, good editing software and good understanding of your camera and lighting you can get some very cinematic results

It doesnt look very much like a movie because theres no camera movement... in our days its more realistic if the camera moves or shakes a little.... not only still on a tripod... its like if the camera was involed in the scene...
Just a few tips. You can not get a convincing film look without DOF.A 35mm adapter and a few 35mm lenses will really increase your production value.Just a tip.
If you shoot wide angle you can easily. Especially when compared with 16. To many people think DOF = Film which is not true. I have seen DV look like film or film stuff look like video. And I have definitely seen a boat load of 35mm adapted HD footage still look like video.
Just a thought. I think a lot of a film look only has to do with letterboxing your videos. I would be interested in seeing this same videos comments with only a 16:9 matte as opposed to a cinemascope aspect ratio.
you should really try using a lens with a narrower depth of field! That would bring it all up a noch. don't know if you are using a lens adapter, if not you should. And shoot at 1.4, 2 og 2.8 aperture. Your filming is not to cinama-ish either. But that beach scene on your other movie really is.
It's simple for me. Leave the time for the CCDs to capture light at 1/60 (it's labeled as shutter speed), convert down to 24 fps and then deinterlace it using Internet Video Converter's smart blending. All my camcorder vids are presented in 24p.
also, what he's lacking is a depth of field adapter by companies such as Letus35 (D O T) com or Redrock Micro. Everything is in focus which isn't helping his film look.
Its nothing hard guys. 24p, desatruate the colors, use something like Adobe Photoshop's curve tool, also found in after effects and premier pro, and you got something like this or better.
What filters did you use?

Yeah would just require you to give then video a bit of post production (colour correction)

i think he used a little color correction, changed the contrast... so he just filmed it and edited changes

I like your video it has a better look then a lot of video with DOF. It does have a cinematic look and less of a documentary look. Good job.
sworkout 3 years ago
you fool. you shot it on 4:3 ration compressed it with letterbox matteing. you did not achieve any film look. Your not shooting in true widescreen.
Federer2001 3 years ago
So what? Yes he did achieve a film look. lus, tell me what would be different if it was in true widescreen. I know there is a difference, but what?

Fourthwall is right, you've got all the techniqes down, but a 35mm adapter would boost your already outstanding video.
