  • This guy was my calculus professor, he's cool

  • Another physicist, Lubos Motl, disputes the reality of AGW. So it's not settled science. Also, huge variations in global temperatures can occur by natural means, such as large volcanic eruptions. Thus it's untrue that all temperature changes are caused by humans.

  • lol, AGWists have been debunked. 11 straight years of cooling. Global warmists are fucked up the ass!

  • 1:01 "and this is the scariest graph of all"

That graph is used by all the climate change alarmist. It is the infamous "hockystick graph" and it has now been shown to be fake.

Climate change is a political ploy being used by the Left to force their agenda on us.

  • @yahazif

I agree. Unfortunately, science can be used as a tool by politicians to enforce a particular agenda ( such as Lysenkoism in the old Soviet Union ).. Global warming is also such a case.

  • The world cooled from 2005

  • They're cousins. Her late father was his uncle. He was also a physicist - first professor of physics at the OU

  • Can our Joan

    perhaps bemoan

    anything beyond

    the ozone?

  • I don't want to get in a fight, but I believe in global warming being real, and even if it weren't us causing it, its still there, and isn't it just the right thing to do to take care of the planet? Not just that but our species?

  • Check out the real danger of global warming and it's happening in another 4-4.5 years on youtube watch?v=JUtVQ7QbCNU! GOD speed in saving our planet-)

  • john baez rulez

  • I was always pretty skeptical about global warming, but I do know that John Baez knows what he's talking about, and certainly more skeptical and rigorous than the average scientist.

  • my name is john baez, hahaha.. thats the only reason i found this video... hmm.. wonder if i am related to him.

  • lol i know someone with the same name

  • I usually don't do this but I can't resist - WAKE UP YOU IDIOTS. All of you who are focusing on his little arithmetical mistake - grow up - even geniuses are allowed to make mistakes - and those of you who think global warming is not real - what makes you so sure? Keep driving your SUV's - damn hicks. Just stupid assholes - the lot of you.

  • I don't know why you think spewing that much hate adds to your credibility. All it does is make you come across like you have serious personality issues. When you are that hateful toward people just for disagreeing with you, it is too late to legitimately claim you care about humanity.

  • I don't think it adds to my credibility. As this was 2 years ago, I believe I recall that I was frustrated with the lack of focus. I don't like "going off" and I was surprised when I read my response just now. I must have been really pissed off. I think your conclusions are wrong however, as I genuinely do care about humanity and claim it. I guess you can question the legitimacy of it People are allowed to get angry and to be forgiven for outbursts.

  • That's much better. :)

  • He is a GREAT mathematician...not just an average brilliant guy. And I know that it is hard to get this through to most people - but dealing with numbers is not what most mathematicians do. We look at patterns and relationships between objects. Besides, can't a great writer be allowed to make a spelling mistake? William Blake...eg...

  • Just keep on living in false hope. American people tend to believe in everyting that's written in some age-old holy book but disbelieve when something (evolution, global warming) is really scientifically proven.

  • Boy, you've really figured us Americans out. Now, why don't you look inwardly and try to figure out why you WANT to believe in unproven global warming data and the fallacy that most Americans are anti-evolution (we're actually not).

  • Comment removed

  • You're right. He probably just got it backwards trying to say it at that one moment, but your correction is relevant. 6 kilometers is not about 10 miles. It is the other way around. 6 miles is about 10 kilometers. I know from running 10k's that 10 kilometers = 6.2 miles.

Is this guy related to Joan? Baez isn't just that common of a last name. I'm a major fan of Joan.

  • There are those of us who say that Joan is related to him...

  • "Coyotes are now turning up in Manhattan and Los Angeles." Wow! I suppose this is the first time in earth's history that there's been coyotes in LA and NY?? I would bet that 5, 10, 50 thousand years ago there were coyotes in LA and NY.

"The global temperature is now the hottest it's been in 120,000 years." Could it be that we're still coming out of the last Ice Age?? When you're coming out of an ice age, isn't every year gonna be hotter than the next??

  • That we're still coming out of the last Ice Age is actually the whole point of his lecture. You can check out the full version this video on Fora Tv.

  • How come we never see *real* climate scientists in front of a camera making the kind of categorical statements about global warming that we are currently being inundated with in media? It's always politicians, hollywood actors, and in Baez's case, a "mathematical physicist" telling us about the horrors of global warming. I mean, a physicist doesn't necessarily know squat about climate science, especially a *mathematical* physicist.

  • @altair97

Good point - Baez is not a climate scientist and is talking about things outside his area of expertise.

  • I said: "...isn't every year gonna be hotter than the next??" I meant: "...isn't every year gonna be hotter than the previous one??"

  • This guy has no clue what he's talking about

  • co2 does not warm the planet significantly. anyone that says it does is lying (the great global warming swindle).it's a scam.

  • quote "thats about 4 kilometers, so thats about 6 miles a year." 4 kilometers = 2.5 miles. if he got that wrong, how did they know exactly the amount of CO2 in the air 400,000 years ago?
