@noventeros That may be true, but Tom Jobim wrote the English lyrics to Aquas de Março himself, because he was pretty pissed about the complete hash that Norman Gimbel had made of Vinicius de Moraes's poetry on their earlier collaborations.
I actually prefer the Portuguese lyrics myself, but if you're going to bitch about the English lyrics, bitch at Jobim. We putos yankies had nothing to do with it.
I think that the Portuguese lyrics versions, specially the ones sang by Jobim and Regina, can't be matched. But... I don't I think this song is so beautiful and precious in ALL languages I've heard so far, and I've listened to it in English, in Hebraic, in French, in Italian, etc. And from all these versions in non-Portuguese languages, I think the English one is the best, exactly because Jobim was able to give it a very similar feeling. In French it's also adorable. So smooth.
Deixem o Tom em paz.... A música e a obra é dele e ele só queria ser gentil com outros povos, aliás, a música está aí para confraternizar e não segregar. A OBRA É DELE e ele cantará na lingua que bem deseja. (Tudo no presente, pq Tom é eterno.)
WHAT? THIS IS UNBELIEVEABLE. THE WORDS ARE BEAUTIFUL, but I feel u though, the portuguese version is obviously better, I'm glad to have heard the english version cause the words are beautiful
Elle existe en français par Georges Moustaki qui rencontra Tom Jobim pour l'aider à la traduire: Les eaux de Mars. Mas é verdade que é melhor em Português. Eu acho que a versâo com Elis e Tom é a otima.
Let me tell you that singing this song is hard. Tom speaks excellent English, but this song really pushed him. Those girls did an excellent job to carry this performance.
It's just unforgetable!!! This version is wonderful I sow in my native portuguese is the best, but I sow in Italian, and now in English, it's wonderful truly.
You know what? I saw the portuguese version and is the best of the best, English is not made for delicate rhythms like bossa nova or Brazilian music in general, I love the way Portuguese is spoken by Brazil people. By the way, do you happen to know if there is a Spanish version of Águas do março? I would like to hear it.
The Spanish version, you have said isn't Spanish it is just a foreinger singer trying sing it in Portuguese. Ah Have you seen the hebrew version of it? there's on youtube. Just see "related videos" in Águas de Março. it's a good version too.
i'm agree, it's no just the languaje.. the feeling they have for the song (i mean Elis Regina & Tom Jobim), you can tell they realy love the song.. anyway this is a really nice cover. what matters are the feeling you put in the song.. not the languaje. (from argentina)

Sure it would be very delight to hear in Spanish, i think it's not a hard translation, however I guess it must be a profissional.

Well i know one. But the brasilian or us version is better. Search it by the name Fito Paez Aguas de marco
