This ran so hot burned my boys leg he had red mark there but thankfully its healed up , and the screen is now flickering and of course warranty is gone but it also had to go back about overheating couple times.
pls visit the web "insidemylaptop." and search key word "How to take apart HP Pavilion dv5 laptop". it will show you all steps as mentioned in my previous comments.

i just tighten the screw and pull the cable slightly from LCD to the board to give it a margin for movement. Slightly press the connector into its slot and that all.
In fact this is a design defect in dv5. the company should increase the cable length and bind the cable from both edges on LCD & on the board before the connectors so that if there is any displacement / pull force in cable it never impact the connectors on both edges of the cables.
I had an issue with my HP dv5 1120ev screen flickering consistently. Some time taping back side of LCD or moving the screen backward resolve the issue temporarily. I opened up as explained in Step 8 to 18. There was not any damage to video cable and i observed that a screw was lose on left hinge of LCD (screws are shown in step 20). so when ever we move the LCD handler / lever that is tighten with screw is moved a bit from its place and pulls the video cable along with its connector.
I have the exact problem. Flickered for a while, the screen went black. Paid $699 about 2 years ago. HP customer care told me that they never heard this problem before . I was the first one. They lied to me. I went to Best Buy and they told me to buy other brand. They have the most problem with HP. I will never buy HP Laptop anymore. Very disappointing.
There are two screws in each corner at the bottom of the bezel. Undo these four screws then start prying it open. I started from the bottom and worked around with a butter knife. It takes a surprising amount of force. As for fixing the flicker, I didn't replace anything. There was a little bit of wire hanging out of the ribbon right at the hinge. These wires are shorting against the metal frame. Putting a little piece of athletic tape over the wires fixed everything.
I actually bought a Pavilion dv4z along with this computer. The dvZ4 is now running hot too and is out of warranty. You don't have look too hard to see so many people with the same problems. These computers seem to be designed to last about 1.1 years, or just long enough to make it to the warranty expiration date. Never let a friend buy a low end HP.
@UrosR It's definitely the ribbon to the monitor shorting against the frame. If you can open it up, just putting a new peice of tape over the exposed wires should fix everything.
hi guys after watching this video i want to share my views on my laptop.i have hp pav dv-5-1000. a very beautifull looking laptop nice to work with but have some problem... 1) screen flickring 2) overheating problem 3) once overheat the screen goes blank.. hp was no help all crap customer care and i decide nt to do any buzz with hp again and brought a new l/p from different company works better
i will never buy hp again. they try to weasel out of fixing your laptop even though its a known issue. serious customer fraud. i now own a macbook pro dual booting windows 7. the most solid well built laptop ever. fuck hp!!!
I know how to fix it! If you want to know how they did it, then tell message me. Also how much money did you pay for them to fix it? Cause you will be shocked to what the solution was.
this happened to my teachers dell computer, i just opened up the screen, which took a minute, and i accidently tugged on one of the ribbon calbes, and the problem was gone LOL!
But actually i was never a really FAn of HP but i really dont know what to do this laptop is just 2 months old and the problems don´t stop the get even worse... =(
I have HP DV5Z, I have battery removed and work directly with AC power but its not battery causin over heating its CPU heatsink. It make noise constantly without any applications running, over heats and shuts down system. I can actually fry eggs on my laptop. I asked HP for help but they dont do anything. They are actually getting a lot of money from corporate deals, they dont care about individuals. I was a big fan of HP. But not anymoe. This is my 2nd HP laptop both have same problems.
Just after buying this HP it ran wicked hot (90C). They *fixed* it - but I had to send it in again for the same problem. The second time they really fixed it and now it runs around 50-60C. Still hot in my opinion. There is a really poor cooling design on this laptop - the fan intake is exactly where my left leg covers it up causing it to run hot. Install SpeedFan, get a temp reading, call HP and INSIST they fix it.
@ekulrialb They are not using proper type of thermal paste to fix the CPU heatsink problem. There is a high quality and a low quality. Most of these companies use low quality thermal paste to save some money! Now what you have is a Integrated Video Card problem. They must've not taken care of your laptop while repairing because apparently they messed up your video card. it's overheating as well.
so what was the exact finding? it happened to me within the first year of my hp compaq laptop then i sent it to HP, problem was motherboard. after two years (now) screen is flickering more crazy and i have to close and open and lcd, just like open and closing a lid of a chestbox....
HP fixed it but they don't tell you what they had to do. You just send it away and it comes back fixed (sometimes). I sent mine back 3 times in the first year of owning it (under warranty). Twice was for overheating and the third was for the screen flickering.
Mine has a very similar problem. I thought it was a loose connection, but it turned out to be a lcd problem. I swapped my lcd with a good one (using my original cables and inverter) and it worked perfectly. The cheapest new displays I have found are right at $80. Let me know if you find anything cheaper.
Yeah, loose cables seem to be have been the problem. I had HP fix it since it was under warranty. Overall I'm not happy with this computer. My next gripe is the super bright LED lights that light up my bedroom at night.. But it wasn't all that expensive..
mine didnt end yet and its starting... fuck

The reason for the flicker is in my opinion.
HP's manufacturing skills, pretty much each HP Pavilion has a problem with it.

@jacklanting my pavilion dv6000 screen flickering like this when is working with battery only... How to fix it? ); please
DjPawwwel 1 year ago
@DjPawwwel It's either that your battery is weighing down the laptop and making it flicker or that the problem is in your battery.
