  • That stupid little part cost me $16!

  • like he does in the video. And I no longer even hear the fuel pump priming (it's less than a year old so it is still good). I'm at a loss. I don;t know what the fuck is wrong with it and I am not wanting to pay a mechanic AGAIN to fix it. This truck has more new parts on it than a vehicle built in this decade. Anyone know what the problem could be?????

  • any one know wha the part is called

  • @MrRg2034 it called a Steering Column Lock Actuator.

My problem is,when I would turn my truck on it was be stiff and kind of stick so I had to manually pull the key back to the on position so it didn't grind my starter. Then the other day it just stops working all together and the key tumbler would turn with zero resistance. So I replaced the ignition lock switch (the part the key goes in) and still nothing. I cant even use the trick of pulling the little rod in the steering wheel

  • Best video on YouTube if 89 f250 ignition won't start your truck

  • got to actuator could not for the life figure out how to get it in.....saw off end.....LMAO.....worked great!!!! THANX

  • I have this same truck-2wldr-need to replace signal switch-Thanx for the info!!!!!!!

  • awesome man thank you a ton doin this job tomorrow!

  • No way!! i have an 89 ford bronco and the same thing just happened tonight!! and my dashboard and steering wheel look just the same!! now i just need one of them steering wheel removers and im set!!! thanks

  • thanks for the video just got done fixing my 89 f150

  • This is amazing....had the same issue on my dad's 88 F150 XLT Lariat and before I spent 250 on the whole steering column like the mechanic said I needed to do I got curious and found the part listed and then found this video....the part was 20 bucks...INCREDIBLE!!! OH....and my dad has the exact same seat covers on his truck...hilariious! Thanks for the vid!

  • Should have come to your site first.....I've been looking everywhere for a video on how to repair this on my truck. Thanks for the info. Now....what do you know about a John Deere Model M carb?

  • Thanks for the video. now i can fix my trucks ignition. what a god send.

  • Thanks to this video I was able to repair the ignition, however I have to helpful tips to add. The 1st being how to remove the broken section of the actuator. Mine was lodge down inside and I couldn't grab it. I tride the drill trick but the angle was akward and the bit wouldn't bite. So I looked up into where the shifter is. You should be able to see the piece, i used long skinny needle nose but a flat head might also do the trick. I slowly inched the piece back up and out

  • @blackstarcat89 My second tip is for putting the new one in. You do not have to cut it, or pull apart the rest of the coloum . On the sides there are two threader holes for the tilt pins, now you can buy/rent a tool to pull them but I just used one of the screws I took out earlier. Screw it in and pull the pins out with some pliers. once you got them out pull it down all the way, this will give you much greater access then just tilting the steering wheel.

  • that same thing happend to my 1976 chevy

  • I had the same problem with my 1990 out of the blue and jumped it off at the solenoid to get me by. Watched your vid and now I know. Thanks for the Vid Dude!!

    Later

  • I was told my truck wouldn't start due to the ignition switch, so i went to the auto store and bought an ignition switch..... The ignition switch looks alot different then what you have in this video and it's located somewhere else too. Why is that?

  • @Steve30814 hey man, the new part he bought is called an upper actuator arm, it connects to a skinny rod that goes down to a white long box, that box is your ignition switch

  • have u noticed that everyone on youtube has seat covers in their trucks like this that r like urs almost

  • how much did that piece cost because i just bought a hole steering coloulm for $50 for that one piece

  • @casebutler I think it cost like 6 bucks or something close to it

  • @wagner59270 wha is that part called

  • Hi could you please tell me how the thing is called that you bought new?

  • @sebvanholland upper actuator arm

  • Is the switch that says Fuel, just to the left of steering column, for switching between fuel tanks?

    Great work wayne!

  • @jdeerem yup that it is

  • i have the same problem with my 84 chevy C10

  • Where is this truck now, did you sell it?

  • i bet that little section you cut out is to keep it in place when going up steep hills or when parked on a steep hill

  • nope its just for the shift interlock on autos so you cant shift it out of park while the key is off

  • oh so hot here in alberta gonna go have a cold one...oeace

  • Hi gotta say like your how to vids good stuff, anyway question i have sorta the same problem on my bronco except i can turn it to the on position and get the radio and accesories woking but no crank for engine, i just use 2 long screwdrivers and cross the solinoid to start. so is this the same problem you thnk or the cylinder lock itself? so how's the brown come coming again, what a piss off eh

  • yup that would be pretty typical of this problem, Id say you got the same thing going on

  • @nonamesleftorwhat yea man i just did the same thing yesterday, u turn the key all the way and just fuel pump and aux turn on. so yea what a pain in the ass to change it tho.

  • Where is this truck now?

  • do you know if this method would work with a 95 cougar?

  • I cant be sure but it may be similar

  • Thanks for the video, it helped ,but its still a pain in the rear! I cut the ignition actuator off, like you did. Mine is an automatic, yours was a standard. I can now pull the truck into gear without it running. I didn't want to take the whole "damn" steering column off! Thanks again!!!

  • no problem glad i could help

  • that is the yer I was born in 89

  • how funny! i have the same color truck (same scheme) same year, probably the same engine (302) but mine is a bronco with a AOD transmission.

mine broke because i turned the ignition in the winter with a pliers because i couldn't turn it by hand.

fucking dumb ass idea it was. also, fuck tilt wheels too

  • thanks you so much, gonna try it out right now.

  • LOL, I hate when I forget my nut. Keep 'em coming!

  • Don't you mean keep 'em "cumming"?

  • do a 0 to 60

  • whats with that fuel switch to the left of the steering collum

  • that's because old pickups have two fuel tanks, idk why

  • usually because they had towing packages

  • dual gas tanks

  • good video 4 all who dont know how 2 fix that iv done a few of those 4 pepole good how to video keep up the great work no the farm :)

  • damn these things must be easy to steal!

  • same thing happend to my truck i drove with the temporary fix for a wihle but got tired of that and fixed it right

  • Did this on both my 83 and my 87 F-150s.

  • haha now i know how to steal an old ford. thats just way to damn easy lol.

  • Except for the steering lock. Kinda hard to drive down the road with out being able to turn the wheel.

  • better hope you have a really good alignment and dont see any curves
