Jimi, worked in a transmission shop for about 3 years. That's where he got the idea for Crosstown Traffic. Then he did a stint with the Monkies and did the music for LAST TRAIN TO CLARKSVILLE.  Finally his death came in Paris where he died in a bathtub from a heart attack, he'll probably best be remembered for his song, I still haven't found what I'm looking for, recorded by U2. His low time in music was his Buegrass festivals.

He is using on that guitar (polka dot Buddy Guy signature strat) "Gold" Lace Sensor pickups, I've seen videos of him doing the same thing with regular single coil pickups as well. You'll probably notice that he jacks up the volume on the guitar just before he hits the long note. It's a mix of equipment, technical know how, and just plain out ability. He lays the strat as a viable blues guitar debate to rest.
