  • @chopperslam69 you've obviously never seen Dick Cavet interview Hendrix. To Jimi it wasn't all about the money. It was about the music.

  • I love Buddy but Jimi AND Stevie take so much of their styles from Albert King.

  • buddy guy is a great guitarist but that shit he says about hendrix cancelling a show to see him play is bullshit, hendrix whould never cancel a show for that shit! hell he was gettin 50 to 100 grand a show!

  • mmmm dirty opening

  • you know some mother fuckier had to open their mouth while buddy was playing.. fuck you and your commentary!!

  • vid is an irritating mess

  • HENDRIX was really digging Buddy

  • Whats that piece at 0:55 called? Does it have a name?

  • Jimi, worked in a transmission shop for about 3 years. That's where he got the idea for Crosstown Traffic. Then he did a stint with the Monkies and did the music for LAST TRAIN TO CLARKSVILLE. Finally his death came in Paris where he died in a bathtub from a heart attack, he'll probably best be remembered for his song, I still haven't found what I'm looking for, recorded by U2. His low time in music was his Buegrass festivals.

  • First notes of red house here takes my attention, it's sounds so pretty nice!

  • Wow that old Buddy was nice!

  • Jimi was so astonished listening Buddy that he prefered recording him instead of jamming with him. Jimi, Jimi what have you done... we lost an oprtunity of listening these two gods together. If only... If only Bonzo didn't drink so much that night, if only Janis parents were more caring, if only Yoko...

  • God in earth

  • never seen that film of jimi watching buddy guy …. that was great

  • was that actually jimi in the audience!?

  • @RIPHendrix Yeah man Jimi cancelled a show to see Buddy Guy play, he was a HUGE Buddy Guy fan

  • @S1NN3R2106 and who could blame him? :)

  • just as much soul in his playing as jimi had if not more, damn i need to listen more to this cat

  • Jimi Hendrix was a huge Buddy Guy fan and Eric Clapton considers him to be the greatest guitarist of all time...Imagine that, two of the world's greatest guitarists think/thought that Buddy was the greatest...If that's not one of the greatest compliments, I don't know what is.

  • @pagalley1 eric clapton its shit, in bb king words earl hooker was the greatest

  • @TheSatanas666 Why do you have this username, if you don't mind me asking?

  • @pagalley1 guess who you talkin to

  • Who am I talking to?...I have no idea...Tell me, if you don't mind...

  • Rolling Stone Mag rated him as #13 of all time...What the hell are they smoking!!!

  • Man, Buddy Guy is a whole lot better than what most people think. What a guitar player!

  • my band did a tribute to the great bob dylan and we started our set with all along the watchtower. i would really appreciate it if you took the time to watch it on my channel. thank you

  • my band did a tribute to the great bob dylan and we started our set with all along the watchtower. i would really appreciate it if you took the time to watch it on my channel. thank you :)

  • the narrator is robert cray. this is off of "lightning in a bottle"

  • My band and i did a tribute to jimi hendrix in front of our entire school. Please check it out and let me know what you think.

  • The narrator kinda sounds like Steve Jordan? I doubt it's him but I really thought it was at first.

  • It drives me completely fucking crazy when people talk over other people when their playing their music . I do not want to hear anyone commenting on Buddy Guy when Buddy Guy is playing. It is ridiculous, because I can't actually hear Buddy Guy when you are talking about Buddy Guy . O.FUCKING K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @calum66 Yea, I guess that would kinda be like somebody standing in front of the Mona Lisa, while trying to describe it to you.

  • @gjc82071 Yes and put much more eloquently than me!

  • @calum66 I see what you mean, but a lot of us enjoy this clip for what it is. It ain't a concert video, it's history. Nice to see.

  • if anyone has the entirely recordin of this red house of Buddy guy please contact me. I'll pay for have that.

  • Such a beautiful person Buddy Guy is

  • Buddy Guy is fucking an amazing preformer. Thanks ivarus75 for the upload.

  • Anybody that can impress Jimi Hendrix... well it does'nt need explaining.

  • Buddy was one of Jimi's favorites

  • Goddammit, why the hell the narrating when the old man is about the KILL THE SHIT? Shut up!

  • Holy Shit! He's so fucking good!

  • i refuse to believe that this guy is a minute over 25

  • Not your regular guitar player... no one does justice to Jimi better than Buddy. And I'm sure Jimi is still listening to Buddy any chance he gets.

  • @sleepingcatsranch I agree! Buddy performed many tributes while on stage. He'd do T-Bone, Jimi, Otis, and his efforts to reproduce their 'sounds' came from the respect he had for each of them. As he would introduce his heroes, one could hear devotion in his voice.

  • STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN ♥ GREAT BLUES LEGEND !!! Try Some JOHN MAYER ♥

  • what the fuck is this shit!!!!! AHHH YOU RUINED THE FUCKING SONG ASSHOLE!

  • @turrbodee YOU DICK BRAIN!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @turrbodee

    @turrbodee

You don't know buddy guy...so shut up...And he can play Jimi better than Jimi...

    God Bless them both...

  • ESTO ES UN TESORO DE LA MUSICA, thank you for this. Tener esta garabacion es un pribilegio

  • Is the voice over at the start Steve Jordan?

  • Is the Narrator at the start Steve Jordan?

  • Buddy Guy is a living legend !! one of the best live acts i've ever seen!

  • Can someone write down what Buddy says from 1:13 to 1:55 ?? Thanks

  • @pouliehj I got invited to Steve Paul’s Scene & as I was playing the guitar behind my head, doing my splits, this guy with a big hat & a tape recorder & I could hear voices saying “ that’s Jimi Hendrix” & I said “I don’t know who in the f that is, so what?” He said “I’m Hendrix. I just cancelled a gig. I want to play something with you but I want to tape this” & I said “Do whatever you want”, Cause I was wild & chasing girls & trying to impress some hippie girls & we got acquainted that night.

  • sounds like steve jordan talking in the beginning.

  • buddy guy is no hendrix,he was good, but its like the progression of the athlete, hendrix is on another level Muscilly,

  • @evelskunny hahaha Jimi was Buddy !!! watch buddy Guy - Money live festival express you see where jimi came from.

  • wheres that tape at?

  • Yall dudes are crazy..........cant we all just get along. Willie sued Led Zep for that arrogant english claim to fame. I see all of your points but the fact is not to argue and slam each other about what we all seem to really like. Look up BB's story about when he met the Pope, and how BB was shocked to watch the Pope play Three of BB's songs with a very high level of skill. Now thats a story worth commenting on.

  • " jimi hendrix, i dont know who the f@ck that is" lol

  • great footage

  • Listen to the solo. Fuck, that is the feeling every bluesman is looking for...

  • The part where he says "Who the fuck is Jimi Hendrix" is my favourite sentence on whole YouTube. He seems so great to meet in real life!

  • SHIT! this video gave me the goosebumps... this is what makes blues exciting, it might be the same chords all over, but when u get ur soul in there its just a long kick ass orgasm

  • the respect was mutual buddy.

  • I LIKE ERIC CLAPTON & Jimmy Page and all-their talent is undeniable--BUT a lot of times:

"AIN'T NOTHING better than black people playing black music, real good!"

and that's exactly what you have here! Awesome upload, out-of-this-world-good; gives goosebumps on my forearms right now and chills up my spine!

Makes me proud to be black!

  • buddy's playing gives me fuckin goose bumps in this one!

by far one of the greatest guitarists alive today

  • 1:30 Buddy speaking on Jimi: "I don't know who in the fuck that is...so what" CLASSIC!!

  • Is a crying shame that rolling stone rates him only at # 66..

  • It's good to see Jimi Hendrix looking like he's really enjoing himself and having a great time. For some reason he usually looks sad and thoughtful, but here Buddy Guy is bringing out the joy in Jimi.

  • @boxingin I don't think he was sad. He was just a shy guy off-stage.

  • @RebelThoughts No, Jimi was a sad individual just ask anyone who knew him or has been around him...

  • @boxingin

You missing the who point. Buddy was doing the things implemented in his act. Jimi is learning from Buddy. It's so obvious. I love Hendrix, too but, it's BUDDY GUY.

  • YES YES YES!!!!!!

  • holy shit!!! was that hendrix watching buddy guy.....crazy stuff. awesome!!!

  • I praise the person who made Jimi Hendrix shake his head in exitement!!!

  • @TygerOfPanTang90 How did he make Hendrix? I understand Buddy was an influence for Jimi Hendrix... But made him?

  • @boxingin

well I wrote: He MADE his head shake (like in the video) ...not MADE him as a musician!

There is a difference, you know...

  • @TygerOfPanTang90 I stand corrected, thanks.

  • Buddy Guy was doing Hendrix before Hendrox.

  • @hypatience but hendrix was god of all guitar players

  • I just search 'jimi hendrix red house' and it came with this and i just loved it : )

  • Jimmy Hendrix muse Buddy Guy's rendition of Hendrix's "Red House"

  • what's that wah-like sound Buddy uses?

  • He has his own signature Dunlop Wah pedal

  • @edwardtang1977

It's called a Wah Pedal. Alters the tone.

  • @edwardtang1977 i have a dunlop wah... and the first petal i got.

  • 2:11 BEST RIFF EVER

  • Riff?

  • I'm in shock...this is Great!!! thanks

  • Thats so cool

  • I was at the scene that nite buddy guy jumped off the stage and never stopped playing all the way down

  • my brothers

  • FABULOUS!

  • When I first heard and saw Buddy Guy playing live.. I wanted to play the blues like him....Love how holds the notes and lets his guitar scream..Thats how I like playing the blues these days.

  • Wow!!! Buddy Guy Was The Greatest Blues Guitarist Ever!!! 5 - Stars ***** !!!! Thanks For Sharing!!!!

    - BigWillieWillHom :)

  • Jimi was the only black one in this band, the other two guys were white!

  • well at first, then billy cox came in. and also during woodstock, there were three black guys.

  • Mitch Mitchell played at Woodstock.

  • @pejote666 but that was with the jimi hendrix experience. he had a seperate band called band of gypsys with billy cox and buddy miles if i'm not mistaken.

  • did this guy play with hendrix in band of gypsys or am i thinking of someone else (by the way thats my fav guitar ever)

  • You're thinking of Buddy Miles who was the drummer for The Band of Gypsys

  • "Who in tha fuck that is man, so what?" Yeah total drag about not hearing the whole song. I've read and watched as much Buddy Guy stuff as I can, man has a good sense of humour. In my opinion the best blues guitarist ever, Freddie close second.

  • WTF!!ITS HENDRIX!!!OH GOD!

  • Just as I was looking forward to hearing the song, along comes one of those half retarded American "this is why your listening to this song, have you noticed a suttle amount of blues playing in the guitar blah blah blah" Jesus just let the guy play and stick the analysis up your arse and fuck off while your doing it!

  • I agree...I was shouting at the guy as well. But this is all there is on that dvd unfortunately.

  • @ivarus75

    Couldn'ty agree more. Goddammit. :-)

  • @ivarus75 is this from a crossroads festival?

  • @ivarus75 Im with you i have seen Buddy several times he doesent need any help

  • I was pissed too, but your listening to American music played by an American show a little respect.

  • @RichMichael1980

Yeah well, it's obviously part of a documentary, you silly snaggletoothed wanker.

  • @1Doz up yours you lily livered lah de dah!

  • @RichMichael1980 half retatded isn t as bad as a complete retard like yourself.

  • @RichMichael1980

    Amen.

  • @RichMichael1980 Hey, bud...this wasn't just some "half-retarded American" yakking about Buddy Guy's music. This is how the documentary was constructed. And slagging nationalities is pretty trite. Lay off.

  • @RichMichael1980 Sorry they forced you to listen to the retarded American music and endure the comments by Buddy and the narrator. It's on the DVD. Deal with it, or ignore it.

  • @RichMichael1980 Yea the video is fucked up with interruptions.

  • Don't think I've ever heard Buddy Guy use a wah. Fucking great.

  • Brilliant!!! Thanks for the share:)

    Grandma mary

  • Yea Jimi liked Buddy & as a southpaw he loved Otis Rush not to mention Albert King. Thanks for posting.

  • @TMMSfanCLUB

It's not insane. For example it's a well known fact that after Hendrix came to stay in London, several leading guitarists at the time such as Clapton, Page, Harrison, Kieth Richards, Townshend went to see Hendrix play in clubs. Hendrix also attended their gigs as well. Straightforward.

  • hendrix also played his first brittish gig with clapton, one of claptons bands, the yarbirds, i think (i'm not sure)

  • That would be Cream

  • i wasnt certain which it was.. I thought cream was much later, but i was wrong.. thanks for the help.

  • @ivarus75 Yardbirds were Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Keith Relf, Jim McCarty, and Chris Dreja.

  • @lbccfireinstructor What makes you think I don't know who the Yardbirds were?

  • @lbccfireinstructor You forgot Eric Clapton. He was the first of their rotating guitarists.

  • @lbccfireinstructor sorry you forgot Paul Samwell-Smith, original line-up included also Eric Clapton. Page played only at the end of their story even though he suggested they hire Beck to replace Clapton

  • wat gives him the sustain with the strat????

  • @Tomd1013 Active EMG pickups and a lot of gain. It sounds sweet.

  • He is using on that guitar (polka dot Buddy Guy signature strat) "Gold" Lace Sensor pickups, I've seen videos of him doing the same thing with regular single coil pickups as well. You'll probably notice that he jacks up the volume on the guitar just before he hits the long note. It's a mix of equipment, technical know how, and just plain out ability. He lays the strat as a viable blues guitar debate to rest.

  • ...hahh, and we became, uhm...we got acquainted that night.

    ...Indeed,yea, I can dig..

  • Look @ Jimi breathing every note!

  • it's crazy when you hear about stuff like this. hendrix at a buddy guy show.. theres also a video of paul mccartney talking about going to a hendrix show with pete townshend and eric clapton. insane....

  • i done got old but can still do the thing he used to do

  • for my money it doesn't get any better than Buddy Guy

  • absolutely love Buddy Guy

  • wailnshred is right on the money with what he says bang on man bang the fuck on you are right man big up wailnshred this dude is so right its so fuckin true coz i was gonna say what he said wailnshred u know your shit

  • How does he sustain like that from 2:12 to 2:18?

  • riding the feedback...

  • You can either use a compression sustainer from boss and crank the sustain on it. Or in a live situation you can normally just get it from the amp feeding back on you

  • it's blues. duh.

  • Buddy Guy is one cool fucking dude

  • hey now i know where hendrix learned

  • He's the long note king.

  • Hats off to Mr. Buddy Guy!

  • I can sure see why Davy Knowles of Back Door Slam worships this guy! Woooohoooo!

  • Anybody knows the DVD neme?

  • i see buddy guy on SRV tribute with eric clapton too and dr john and bonny rait too inside.

with his brother too jimy vaughan.

man he was something different. i love to see his face just diferent. and his playing is using the soul.. i love buddy guy by seeing him for the first time in video..

  • HOLY SHIT, Hendrix in the audience!!! Man buddy and hendrix are my idols.

  • I grew up idolizing Hendrix. Hendrix grew up idolizing Buddy.

  • That was Colddddddd!!!!

  • Great story about how Guy met Hendrix, Hendrix idolised Guy, i idolsed Hendrix before I heard of Guy so thanx Jimi for turnin me on him and all the other greats and YOU rightly stand among them. RIP Jimi, hope I'll meet ya some day.

  • what's the song on 1:14

  • damn!

  • Buddy Guy was Hendrix before Hendrix was Hendrix :)

  • That nailed it!

  • @six2112 Noone was like Hendrix, noone. But at the same time noone has been like the great Buddy Guy either.

  • @six2112 T Bone walker too was a big influence on Hendrix if I'm not mistaken.

anyone know who's talking at 1:14? is that buddy? it's 3am, my brain aint functionin

  • @six2112 listen to Lightin' Hopkins

  • Can't wait till Buddy G gets back to Bedford Blues Festival. I want to hear 5 long years!!!
