Concerning your closing statement in this video, I believe that this "Awareness that is not Conscious" is actually Reality (the universe) that does not need our consciousness to exist. This is why she mentions that epistemology, ethics, politics & aesthetics all use metaphysics as its foundation. It's is only through metaphysics that reason & logic & everything else works. Also, It's the only way to start a common understanding between one another because we all share the same reality.
Can objectivist epist. be held in relation to materialist epist? It seems like Feurerbach and some of the earlier young Hegelians had similar notions.
I think you are truly amazing. I wish my professors had your ability to be as clear and concise in their descriptions and expressions. I am a philosiophy major planning to go into academia and I honestly think you are a role model to be followed!
@Tothamon I like this articulation a lot!! Nice approach. I'm sure ecologists speak loads of plant "causal responses". I never thought of it like that. If you know of any articles or books (science not philosophical) that speak on this idea please inform. I'd like to read up on it. Great insight!
@axisapex Nah. just a lover of original ideas. Rand is deep and I love her irreverence, but no I'm not a Randian. She's the philosophical wake up call to Berkeley, so I love her stuff just for that. Berkeley had me stumped as an undergrad...that was 'till I read Rand. Of all her works, this is my favorite. Very few actually read it and it's filled with gems, albeit very controversial gems, and hard to understand gems, but it was worth the effort. I think of myself as a free thinker.
You say that a conscious state is a subset of a state of awareness, but that a state of awareness is not a subset of a conscious state. As a possible example of someone that's aware but not conscious, consider the case of someone with blindsight. Blindsight patients can reliably guess correctly what's in their blind field of vision. They cannot consciously see anything in their blind field of vision, but nonetheless, when asked to guess what's there, they can reliably guess correctly...

unaware conciousness...a sleep walker: capacity to function without awareness
unconcious awareness...hmm not sure thats possible
unconcious implies passed out.. oblivious...not concious
you sure you dont mean subconcous awareness/unawareness?

Thanks for taking a serious look at Rand's epistemology. I look forward to checking out the rest of the series.
