@christo930 Technically it's not therapy, but it's similar to the argument against homeopathy. You shouldn't be able to sell something under false pretenses, especially if it does more harm than good. Homeopathic medicines should be labled as placebos, and there should be an equivalent for this sort of therapy.
Limiting someone's freedom to harm themselves is something I'd support. Wouldn't you?
@hpathbp25 "Limiting someone's freedom to harm themselves is something I'd support"
Absolutely not. The war on drugs and prohibition are the 2 worst social policies of the 20th century and they are/ were aimed at limiting someone ability to harm themselves. The war on drugs has caused incalculable damage to the US. Millions of live ruined by drug arrests, millions of children fatherless because their dad is in jail. Drugs are more potent and cheaper than they were at the beginning of the war!
@christo930 I don't think you can compare this to drugs. No one's addicted to the will to become straight. Most people who seek therapy are those who are on the edge. They're confused about themselves and hear that someone can change their orientation, so they give it a go. Stopping them from hearing about and receiving this "therapy" is the best thing to do. And, unlike drugs, most people won't continue to search.
@hpathbp25 I just don't think it's a good idea to tell gay people that they aren't allowed to go to therapy if they want to. I think people should make informed decisions, but in the end, they should be able to make such decisions for themselves.
@hpathbp25 Homeopathic treatment can work for people. I have seen my own sister recover from severe eczema that had spread all over her body within a year of using the treatment. I have seen people recover from stage 4 cancer. All I can say is be willing to investigate for yourself.
@sicktwistedfreak828 There has not even been a single (accepted) study that even hints that homeopathy might work. All the so called "evidence" that anyone can provide is purely anecdotal. If it works so well, then why can't anyone prove it? Answer: It's water. That's all it is. A glorified placebo.
reversion therapy is not therapy it's torture. stop it today. it like any other so called "psychological practice" not approved by the american psychological association should be banned. If Christians want to sell their snake oil tell them to sell it in third world countries.
@apologiamixer because we cannot adopt, marry, pay the same taxes as you, walk outside holding hands without being arrested, kiss harmlessly in public in many places, keep our jobs and homes, be free from crazy christian people trying to kill or change us at every turn. those good enough reasons for yeah?
@apologiamixer nope and here's why because this country WASN'T founded on christianity, the pilgrims WEREN'T all various forms of Christian, and despite your GOP panel wannabees best efforts I don't have to do a d@mn thing any of you fear mongering historical revisionist dominionist christian taliban want me to do just because you claim you know Jebus Crisp personally.
@apologiamixer I'm a born again Wiccan, the only lake of fire we visit is located in the fire plane and your bad guy "Stan" is a fictional character made up to scare children during Christmas (Yule).
"Real Christians" promote understanding, compassion, mercy, justice, and love to all who suffer. These attributes transcend others of differing religions, ethnicities, races, sex, sexual orientation, political/social/economic status, or anything else bigoted people attempt to use to divide. Hatred is not an attribute of Chrisitans except for that which causes suffering and misery. I pray God breaks through the hardered hearts of people who use His Name to promote hatred of others.
I think the most important thing he said was "It's not in your head, it's who you are." Those words are revolutionary and shatter hate if they can truly be heard :-)
real christians understand that "gay" means happy. and that people like you our homosexuals! if you truely have the right to be who you are sir, then why can't confederate americans have there own place in mainstream america. its hard for me to respect and try to understand someone differnt that has a deep hatered for people like me.
Same-sex attraction is not sufferring, anyone who has enough empathy should know that. That is why I am so disapointed by fellow Christians who don't even try to do so.
So you want to pass a law preventing people from seeking therapy? Sounds like freedom to me (sarcasm).
