He seems to be a little fuzzy headed here, for whatever reason.
I am a Physics major at UGA here in Athens, GA. I am for Steven Chu.
The reason why I replied to the comment you originally posted was because I thought that what you wrote was slightly inappropriate (it was well intentioned just inappropriate).
Fuel-Less Transport & Buildings are MORE than just military & disaster defense! Their intrinsic place & time point energy output is NOT only an order of magnitude more efficient - but stabilizes dislocations, provides help close at hand, enables individual non-specialized functional production of life necessities, all with natural system compatibility.
US has NO CHOICE but to institute Fuel-Less Tech: Eur-Asian econ.Union is well on it's path of resource intergration: isolating N.Amer.
Chu & others make 2 fundamentally wrong assumptions: "Motor needed" & "Fuel needed". Fuel-Less, non-motor keys are: Photons/air pressure/magnetic field line-cutting - with as LITTLE battery storage as possible. Hub mag.-Drives open way by 1/10 of fuel-motor power equivalence.
Solar takes you to 30m/p/h; MagAmps to 50; Air Turbine kick-ins to 80. Just ran my first Air-T last night: 2 amps at 700r/p/m. Incredibly simple totally automatic! Less resist.than "radiators"-which rid of only PART waste
For problem clearly identified - search for Lindsey Williams The Energy Non-Crisis
For Economy Reconciled in spite of "Problem Identified", google NESARA & check out the homepage
Regarding the Fed & our economy see Executive Order No. 11110 (JFK)
Chu is THE right person for this job. He is aware of the MANY solutions for energy which do NOT put energy and food supply at odds with our human needs.
Steven:A "Fuelist" contends that all energy performing work comes from FUEL - this is obviously false, since we are surrounded by energy performing work which is NOT fuel, and is never consumed. As Tactaius once said "it is absurd, therefore I believe".
Such a "Fuelist Fiction" is convenient however, because it allows all reality to be commodicized. It "levels the energy playing field". Words are then "Fuel for thought"; economies are "Fueled", and so on. Thus "interdependance" & corps rule!
I am saying WE DON'T NEED FUEL! The energy around moving object CAN NOW BE USED! Neo-mag Drives improve efficient by 10 factor! Being produced by MILLIONS! Neo-Generators add another 10X factor - result 100X efficiency! Which means only few hundred MAH to propel indefinitely. Vibration, or frontal air turbines can provide this, remove need for time-conditional solar. Chu is supported by OIL - for more PEANUTS! "Alt-fuel" fine with them! No change/MORE/FUEL - more "FUELIST'S"!
There are millions of mag-drive vehicles on Earth's roads - the electric scooters you see for example! That is the "consumption end", for the energy "production end" press my channel. Batteries are like fuel - outside static-stop sourcing. With "mag amp gen" energy is produced AS YOU DRIVE and used instantly (point production/point use - A.K.A. "Fuel-Less Transport").
HoHoHo we good 'ol mountain boys (Gore & Clinton) can sure dig the SCIENCE of BOOT-LEG WHISKEY! & those little critters that MAKE CORN INTO ALCOHOL, our good new buddy Steven can COOK UP IN THE LAB! Yeah, I'm a "loose cannon" who don't sign onto the "4-year plan"! THERE IS NO TIME! The Chinese & Japan have already had secret talks putting Mag/Gen-Mg/Drive Fuel-Less motorless tech into IMMEDIATE PRODUCTION! So cut the old Clinton Carter-era crap, because once you're gone, you won't come BACK!
Hey Menace: Carter was good- though tech. was limited- HE got us small cars! Clinton fucked things up with GMO-OIL ag! DISASTER WORLD-WIDE: hidden RACISM: Indian corn GET'S IT! Orient RICE, GET'S IT! But POPE stops WHEAT from GETTING IT! Thank "God"! Chu is taking Cheese cultures & applying for FUEL (Dupont FRANKENTREES!) He will stop God's plagues, by making a WORSE PLAGUE of his own! Fuel-Less (or Fuel-Free) mag/elect Transport CHANGES all this! Get rid of Corp. Greenwash Bag-Man Gore!
"Hey Menace: Carter was good- though tech. was limited"
He dealt a serious blow to the nuclear industry, the difference was made up with coal power(the very same that kills 30 000 americans per year from particulate pollution).
Wont we all be pleasantly surprised when after Obama is sworn in, we have already solved the energy crisis & simply await the removal of "powers that be" who pretend to have any future hold on us by continued suppression?
Silver linings everywhere. Just gotta know how to look for 'em.
As a wise reader, DG, of my blog pointed out, Chu teaches us at 0:57 that 3 degrees Celsius translates to 11 degrees Fahrenheit.
Well, it may be another good opportunity to recommend Mr Chu to re-take his high school physics classes because 3 deg C is actually 5.4 deg F, less than 1/2 of what he thinks.
However, there are much more serious examples of his utter confusion by the world of the climate, so maybe this error is not that important.
He's giving us the CliffsNotes version of his information. I believe what he's saying is that 3 degrees Celsius change to the global temperature translates into 11 degrees Fahrenheit change elsewhere. You forget, countries around the world are not all located in the same climate zone.
Don't be completely ludicrous. If he were saying what you indicate, he would have used at least one of the words like "elsewhere" that you mention.
Instead, he says "three degrees of Celsius doesn't look like too much to you; it's eleven degrees Fahrenheit". It is simply and obviously a mistake, a result of his complete ignorance and inexperience with elementary things related to the climate.
When it comes to this field, he's an incompetent hack who just tried to mask this fact.
He's obviously not a practiced public speaker like most politicians. We've all had experience in omitting words from our speech. More importantly, I've met plenty of doctorates who say things that sound "strange" simply because people don't have the educational background to understand the issue without in-depth explanation. Unlike in TV/movies, scientists don't always produce long-winded explanation on the stuff they talk about because the background information is considered general knowledge.
Btw, you were wrong to say 3 degrees Celsius equals 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit. A direct conversion from C to F is 37.4 F, and that is why what I said earlier makes more sense. He is speaking of GLOBAL warming and it's impact on us specifically. Other scientific literatures have already explained the change to total global temperature and it's effect on individual places on earth. And that is why what Dr. Chu said makes perfect sense. I suppose he expected his audience to be knowledgeable.
I enjoyed this lecture but I supppose I am just happy that a scientist holds the highest energy position in the country. That is a start. However, just to clarify this temp conversion thing: a change in temp of 3 degrees C IS 5.4 F (and he does say 5 degrees C just after the 11 degree slip up). He is not talking about a specific temperature (such as 3 degrees C = 37.7 degrees F) he is talking about a CHANGE in temperature. Google it. Hope that helps.
Actually that's what I thought too. But then I realized I can't be completely sure that's exactly what he's talking about so I didn't delve into it. From the numbers he provided, I couldn't mathematically produce the answers he gave us so I decided not to go into it. Then again, I haven't read all of his materials yet so what he's saying might make more sense if I read his research.
Go to a counselor or professional psychologist, learn some social skills and techniques for making friends, go to a number of social events to make friends, make some actual friends, and just when you feel that your life is marginally better and suitable for living, KILL YOURSELF.
Finish the job your mother was too lazy to finish with that wire hanger, lol.
I would say that Obama has put together the best team ever seen in the white house...
It is so logical for an accomplished scientist to be head of energy department... I mean how can politicians make these kind of sophisticated decisions when they dont understand the field at all...
The first no-grid Fuel-Free Solar-fed magnetic transport has been built & exhib. at the oct Paris Auto show (YTube Carlos Ghosn Renault- last shown "based" on KanDoo Be-Bop [in French]). A few pathetic "Death doctors" like Chu will continue to provide cover for Monsanto's rape of prairies. MOTORS ARE GONE: "ELECTRICS" ARE GONE! More billions now going down the toilet in GreenWash Corp. Tech. Chinese will lead- US will CRASH within 8 months! '90's Clinton FOOLS!!!
Steven Chu does not even speak Chinese..and he is picked to lead us to a new generation of revolutionary technology and save our planet you asshlole!!!
Stop spreading this nonsense that draws negativity ... You should invest your anger in Bush administration that dug a hole with the secret society members that are planning to eliminate a large portion of our population...
Whether or not Steven Chu speaks Chinese is not the issue. In fact, if he DOES speak Chinese, it's a pro, not a con because being a polyglot is a mark of intelligence. He'd be better positioned than most to express his ideas to a global audience. He'd also be able to more easily share his research with the international scientific community. If you're implying someone who speaks more than one language is somehow less loyal to America, I would have to strongly disagree with your opinion.
What IS the issue, is that we need someone like him to usher America, and hopefully the world, into a new era of revised energy usage. I would prefer a researcher and scientist such as Dr. Chu, rather than a self-serving and ignorant politician, as the key player in the planning for future American energy consumption.

This is a dangerous religion which will destroy our economy (lower the growth rate 1 percent a year for a century removee 2/3 of the growth otherwise) and our society if the leftist go on with cap-and-tarade and "a new economy". Socialists are very outspoken the class struggle is replaced by climate catastrophe.
I'm a B Sc in physics who has read about this issue since 1991 and knows of hundreds of climatologist professors who oppose this pathetique science; the conclusions by IPCC.
BSc huh? Congrats! 40 more years of education, a nobel prize, 2 faculty appointments at a pair of the world's best universities, and a directorship at Berkeley Lab and you'll be well on your way to being Steve Chu. Keep up the good work, but for now I'll stick with Chu, thanks!
tomteiss. Yes. B Sc (in two fields approx; 5 years) says that I've got some IQ, and I can read so I know that Chu is a professor with Nobel price. Lots of those I'm not agree with in politics are socialist scientists with Nobel price. Do you say you agree with Soviet Union scientist Lysenko because he was scientist?
-
I argued facts about Chu - his alarmistic exaggeration, and I'm deeply worried about economics (have studied economics too). I notice you do not argue arguments, but attack me.
Yeah I argued your credentials, because your argument wasn't clear. Are you suggesting that research into sustainable energy sources will destroy our economy? If so then I disagree. There is significant precedent for this disagreement, i.e. the health of the German and French system to contrast the disastrous results in wasteful China. As for the scientists, Lysenko was a soviet pawn and he certainly didn't win the nobel. Chu's record is impeccable and his science is brilliant.
Jacquot' vid confirms my suspicians Chu is just a lackey picked to forward Al Gore's Biofuel agenda. This is the planetary genocide plan Alex Jones refers to. Behind Gore's twilight world, the Monsanto GMO keeps getting added to every tank of oil-fuel! The kick-back support is huge, but NOTHING compared to what he will get with DuPonts GMO-tree program on-board! Meanwhile the BLOCKAGE of cost/usage of electronic Transport has been broken: true fuel-less WITHOUT GRIDS is HERE! Nisson back 1 year!

Yeah zyx: I just got World Peace Wheel Award for individual contributions for developing stand-alone Fuel-Less Transport - no big money from those who got it BLOWING UP PEOPLE BETTER! Fit's right in with Chu's ICE preservation schemes, huh? Meanwhile Gore is setting up the big "Green-Wash" tent at Inaugural. Just put 50thou in my back pocket & pal Joe will get you what you want! Watch it- Blago just went out the kitchen window, you might be NEXT!
I'm not trying to be glib but if you have a point, you should try to communicate it in a clear and concise manner. Your writing reads like the word salad of a schizophrenic. From all your ramblings, I can only hazard a guess that you're anti-new energy, anti-clinton, anti-change, which is fine because it's your opinion. But you could certainly argue your point better.

In 50 years the climate has changed at least twice! and now its changing again.
Climate changes thats what it fucking does - PERIOD. All proxy records show this simple fact - but you fucking MORONS think you know better than what the evidence is telling us.

Yeah! & we want Eric (Google) or Ted (CNN), not Chu & Gore! They know what's happening! We had one moronic cheerleader for the past 8 years, we don't need another! "Clean" is '90's buzzword for GAS! "Renewable" is old buzzword for BioMass (started with potheads 20 years ago & I told them then it was a lousy cheapy non-solution! FUEL is FINISHED FOREVER - go listen to Carlos Ghasn if you believe CEO's more! Chu was near Livermore EMB fiasco set back research 8 years! NO MORE MEGAPROJECTS!
"Take the job away from the lobbyists and give it to the engineers." Right ON! Every industry, and every country, could benefit from this simple advice.
Engineers YES! But dig corp penetration of academy (pass the ammunition lobbying). Refriges(GE, past): Biodeisel (Monsanto, Gore): Yeast (Dow, Dupont). The one good one SHOULD BE: nano-solar, BUT "5% chance" so (Construction indust., Developers). Nanosolar is already making deliveries: of 50million or more orders! NO application to TRANSPORT- the MONSTER in the room that no one wants to mention! The basic error of DIRECT current to Hubs, rather than POLARITY with Gens. has been solved- in Japan!

Bad choice for Energy Head! Why? Notice his "Best scientist" words = CLOSED MIND, Ethno-centric bias (his OWN people are "best"). Reformist temporizer: Biomass perpetuates MOTORS, which are hugely wasteful (heat, friction), & cause MASSIVE STARVATION- no matter WHERE you get your green. His thinking illustrates US academic ROT: energy czar who just SPIED on OTHER COUNTRIES new techs would do far better! Big error: restricting nano & electrical to STATIC USES! Fuel-Less Transport NEED NO.1!
I think it will be done but making alternative energy takes time, money, man power, a lot of resources. I'm hoping in 10 years time science can progress to the poitn where I can go to a gas station where liquid natural gas, hydrogen, and other forms of alternative fuels can be used to fill up a car that can get 50 to 75 miles to the gallon.
I just want someone who knows what the hell their doing and this guy definitely will get the job done. He's going to do a great job, I just know it. I am so glad that Obama getting people that actually know what the hell their doing.
You'll also find him supporting ScienceDebate2008 (see Related Videos) and on Project Steve.
Factoring in the huge dedication involved in a shift in academic fields (from experimental physics to alternative energy), experience directing science labs, and his Nobel, I believe Daniel Weiss put it best:
"Following on the heels of the anti-science Bush administration, it's like going to Mensa after spending eight years in the flat earth society."
soft-spoken, but pulls no punches! i like this guy... :0 a good side-effect of developing 'growable' fuel; this would also help passively cool the planet and combat warming. (of course though, we'll still need more food...)

huge evaporation and huge dry rivers and lakes.
Tides are up to 12m. Evaporation is up to 4m per year and can be increased.
Huge 12m tidal erosion can revive old dry paleo dormant once mighty rivers, creeks and lakes,
desalinate the country and change deserts to rain forests to provide more rain across Australia.
World population is growing rapidly and we need more energy, food, land and water.

Chu is THE right person for this job. He is aware of the MANY solutions for energy which do NOT put energy and food supply at odds with our human needs.
GenXFuturist101 3 years ago
Steven:A "Fuelist" contends that all energy performing work comes from FUEL - this is obviously false, since we are surrounded by energy performing work which is NOT fuel, and is never consumed. As Tactaius once said "it is absurd, therefore I believe".
Such a "Fuelist Fiction" is convenient however, because it allows all reality to be commodicized. It "levels the energy playing field". Words are then "Fuel for thought"; economies are "Fueled", and so on. Thus "interdependance" & corps rule!
PhotonDrive 3 years ago
Well, yes, we are surrounded by energy, but that does not mean it can be effectively utilized to do work.
Wait, what exactly are you trying to say?
Energy from fuels as in energy from chemical bonds and combustion, or...?
ZubZerp 2 years ago
"Standards" OIL!
PhotonDrive 2 years ago
LOL it's really quite impossible to have 100% efficiency. What are your sources?
ZubZerp 2 years ago
neo-mag drives???? ive never heard of this. Can you pls site your sources of information?
Alanjan 2 years ago

PhotonDrive 3 years ago

However, there are much more serious examples of his utter confusion by the world of the climate, so maybe this error is not that important.
lumajs 3 years ago
He's giving us the CliffsNotes version of his information. I believe what he's saying is that 3 degrees Celsius change to the global temperature translates into 11 degrees Fahrenheit change elsewhere. You forget, countries around the world are not all located in the same climate zone.
ElatedScherzo 3 years ago
Don't be completely ludicrous. If he were saying what you indicate, he would have used at least one of the words like "elsewhere" that you mention.
Instead, he says "three degrees of Celsius doesn't look like too much to you; it's eleven degrees Fahrenheit". It is simply and obviously a mistake, a result of his complete ignorance and inexperience with elementary things related to the climate.
When it comes to this field, he's an incompetent hack who just tried to mask this fact.
lumajs 3 years ago
He's obviously not a practiced public speaker like most politicians. We've all had experience in omitting words from our speech. More importantly, I've met plenty of doctorates who say things that sound "strange" simply because people don't have the educational background to understand the issue without in-depth explanation. Unlike in TV/movies, scientists don't always produce long-winded explanation on the stuff they talk about because the background information is considered general knowledge.
ElatedScherzo 3 years ago
Btw, you were wrong to say 3 degrees Celsius equals 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit. A direct conversion from C to F is 37.4 F, and that is why what I said earlier makes more sense. He is speaking of GLOBAL warming and it's impact on us specifically. Other scientific literatures have already explained the change to total global temperature and it's effect on individual places on earth. And that is why what Dr. Chu said makes perfect sense. I suppose he expected his audience to be knowledgeable.
ElatedScherzo 3 years ago
I enjoyed this lecture but I supppose I am just happy that a scientist holds the highest energy position in the country. That is a start. However, just to clarify this temp conversion thing: a change in temp of 3 degrees C IS 5.4 F (and he does say 5 degrees C just after the 11 degree slip up). He is not talking about a specific temperature (such as 3 degrees C = 37.7 degrees F) he is talking about a CHANGE in temperature. Google it. Hope that helps.
posergirl1 3 years ago
Actually that's what I thought too. But then I realized I can't be completely sure that's exactly what he's talking about so I didn't delve into it. From the numbers he provided, I couldn't mathematically produce the answers he gave us so I decided not to go into it. Then again, I haven't read all of his materials yet so what he's saying might make more sense if I read his research.

DeNnaceTheMeNaCE 3 years ago 5
Whether or not Steven Chu speaks Chinese is not the issue. In fact, if he DOES speak Chinese, it's a pro, not a con because being a polyglot is a mark of intelligence. He'd be better positioned than most to express his ideas to a global audience. He'd also be able to more easily share his research with the international scientific community. If you're implying someone who speaks more than one language is somehow less loyal to America, I would have to strongly disagree with your opinion.
ElatedScherzo 3 years ago

I'm a B Sc in physics who has read about this issue since 1991 and knows of hundreds of climatologist professors who oppose this pathetique science; the conclusions by IPCC.
magnusea 3 years ago
BSc huh? Congrats! 40 more years of education, a nobel prize, 2 faculty appointments at a pair of the world's best universities, and a directorship at Berkeley Lab and you'll be well on your way to being Steve Chu. Keep up the good work, but for now I'll stick with Chu, thanks!
tomteiss 3 years ago
tomteiss.
I notice you do not argue arguments, but attack me.
magnusea 3 years ago
Btw, John Holdren is also a crackpot. Shall be obvious to everyone.
magnusea 3 years ago
tomteiss.
-
Slight correction. Chu isn't (like Holdren) a crackpot in his scientific field, "only" as a climate alarmist and supposedly in energy politics.
magnusea 3 years ago
Yeah I argued your credentials, because your argument wasn't clear. Are you suggesting that research into sustainable energy sources will destroy our economy? If so then I disagree. There is significant precedent for this disagreement, i.e. the health of the German and French system to contrast the disastrous results in wasteful China. As for the scientists, Lysenko was a soviet pawn and he certainly didn't win the nobel. Chu's record is impeccable and his science is brilliant.
tomteiss 3 years ago

Reformist temporizer: Biomass perpetuates MOTORS, which are hugely wasteful (heat, friction), & cause MASSIVE STARVATION- no matter WHERE you get your green. I'm hoping in 10 years time science can progress to the poitn where I can go to a gas station where liquid natural gas, hydrogen, and other forms of alternative fuels can be used to fill up a car that can get 50 to 75 miles to the gallon.
