This has got to be the fiction. They are far from emo, they are definitely not racist. There are blacks, latinos, and others in the band. The lead singer Zack De La Rocha is part Latino, and hangs out in Santa Ana, CA. That's a very heavy Latino populated place. He even wore a shirt, that says "illegal y que" shirt (illegal and so what?) and when he was playing with a mexican band he had in SA . He speaks spanish. The reason he is so into politics is because of his dad.
