A Sew Cheeky Tutorial: How To Sew Katrina's Soaker and Skirtie Pattern

Could someone recommend to me how many soakers I should make for my newborn due in 3 weeks?? We only have 3 thirsties diaper covers size small and I read I should maybe make around 3 soakers, do you think this is accurate? Should I make size newborn or small?  Thank you.

jhartist123--Have fun with it! My only recommendation would be to NOT use metal snaps--they will rust with all the washing and you don't want that. Get some resin snaps and either some snap pliers or a snap press if you'll be making a bunch. Check out The Snap Store online.

chelar09--I learned to sew making diapers. Like seriously had NO sewing experience. If you want to learn you can do it. Especially with an easy to follow pattern like this one or Rita's Rump. Give it a whirl girl. ;)

Tommarow it's elastic, snaps, I may try Velcro or a metal hook type enclosure and the inside absorbat pocket play around with different kinds of things for absorbancy. Them I'm gonna add some creative touches. My little great nephew is my ginue pis. If anyones got any suggestions for me, please comment.

I'm gonna be a 1st time grandma in 6 months. Eventhough I used disposables with my babies, looking at all theese cloth diapers has got my creative juices flowing. I'm also an artist. I have done many logos and print designs for the fashion industry so I'm determined to make the cuteest, very functional cloth diaper. I started my first one today. I made a pattern by stretching out a disposable pamper and so far I've sewn the outer cloth and a water resistant lineing together.

I use a rotary cutter and I wouldn't sew without it. :) Highly recommend an Olfa brand.

How are your edges so nice and crisp?! Do you use a pizza cutter type scissors? Mine do not look like that at all!

You definitely can--for the soaker a normal straight stitch will totally work. Then for the skirtie all you would need to do is make a traditional hem--fold it up and straight stitch it.
