  • Just remember all those Republican politicians that patronized the Stimulus when it passed but were seen at photo-ops holding giant-sized stimulus checks for spending projects in their districts. Politicians from all parties have to indulge in partisan demagoguery and hypocrisy from time to time. That's just part of politics. But since Obama was elected Republicans have raised it to an art form.

  • @mohamedtowelhead: because of science.

  • The guy who wrote the post below me is a fuckin asshole. Gee.. You wouldnt be a republican now would you? Sullivan makes a logical point and you bash his health-- u dick

  • where are these jobs?

  • I don't always agree with Sullivan, but at least he's intellectually honest.

  • This bill was never intended to be a bipartisan or a jobs bill. It was nothing more than the Democrats paying back all the groups that backed OBama. (Labor Unions, NEA, Planned Parenthood, etc). President OBama knows that the media will give him a pass NO MATTER what happens in the economy.

  • Oh yes! A total pass! That's why "Liberal media" bastions like MSNBC, the New York Times and CNN keep tying Obama to the decline of the last seven weeks, even tho we've been in a recession since 2007. Not to mention those glowing press accounts in the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and Fox News who are totally in LOVE with the new President.

Just drop the "media bias" canard - it's tired and cliché - this is Bush's recession. Now own up to that fact and you'll be better for it.

  • Not a one of those creeps had time even to read that bill. Demos, Repubs -- scoundrels all.

  • Sullivan is the classic Thatcher Conservative of Great Britain.....what we have here is water downed crude version by the present Republican. I rarely agree with Sullivan economic points..but he's better than most.

Another thing, anyone who dare with a straight face claim the Republican ever improved the economy is a joke......Bill Clinton was the real Conservatives.....we have no Conservative voices that aren't obsessed with a woman's uterus...or which kind of sex consenting adults are having.

  • Why didn't all the Republican spending strengthen the economy? Why will all the new spending make things better?

  • The republicans spent most of it overseas, which is worthless to our economy.

Their debt was also in non-job creating nor cost reduction services.

The tax cuts are worth very little when it comes to stimulating an economy because its not enough to help people that need it, so they either save it or pay off current debt. Paying off debt is nice, but it doesnt usually get people hired. The bank doesnt hire another person if even 100 people get a loan of any size. Nor does any other lender.

  • They tried a stimulus plan which was too small to be worth anything. $300-600 a person? lol

Not even a months house note for most.

    The war is a duh.

We didnt increase production of anything for the war. We are still losing more military property then we buy right now I believe.

I assume the national guards equipment in most states still sint replaced fully. So no extra orders getting people hired, so its just money burned.

  • All teh Republican spending went to non-infrastructure war-spending, contracts for corporate buddies, and other stuff that was blatant pirateering that the used cheap overseas labor, and assets stored overseas!! It's lining the pockets of the top 1% No R&D spending, no big improvements, Zero infrastructure- Education has gone sharply down since Reagan, except in Business schools and law degrees--Parasite industries. Health care that is geared towards the benefit of insurance companies...

  • Republicans pushed to have their amendments added to this package and still voted against it.

Republicans who voted against this package are now crowding the microphones taking credit for it.

Republicans know if Obama and the Democrats succeed in turning the economy around, they are finished as a political force. So they are doing eveything possible to sabotage it. Party before country, that's the GOP.

  • they had control of the white house and both houses of congress for 6 years in a row in the 2000's and gave us a gigantic deficit and debt. the gop is so full of shit.

  • tjp87. youre right they stopped being conservatives and they got booted out, like they should. i noticed you didnt give them credit for the surplus though.

  • tell you what jhamm, you give credit to clinton, and you might find a sympathetic ear for those lying, denying, blaming "christian"republicans who ran congress in the 90's and ran washington in the first 6 years of this century.

seems to me not just on fiscal fronts, but on every damned front, everything the damned "christian"republicans touched was wrecked. the 90's were only a prelude to their distruction.

  • I like Andrew and i think conservatives have to update their message and adapt to the times they can't cling to old themes like they have been doing

  • I think it's about damn time for a revolution in this country.
